Governor Rice?

Since we can’t seem to find any real Republicans in California (Wilson and Arnold being pseudo Republicans) that can run this state what about the idea of Condoleezza Rice for Governor.

Can you revise it and explain the chances of this so-called "Governor Rice" in a deep blue California? pls. nt

Or why Rice would do anything that Arnold hasn't. nt

Well, He Can Start By Explaining Why...

…He put Arnie and Pete Wilson in the same category – they are not even close to comparable.

remember Pete?

The Governor that got is all started by deregulating the electric industry in CA. What a mess

What has Arnold done?

engineer4america (Diary) Wednesday, May 27th at 11:27PM EST (link)

He hasn’t brought anyone together, our budget is in worse shape than ever, and there appears to be no hope for a reasonable resolution. What I am expecting is that the Senate and Assembly will cut in every area that hurts the poor the most, the sick the most, children the most to punish the voters for not passing the increased taxes. Then they will sit back and say see we told you this would happen. It will be political extortion.

Several points...

1. Check the posting guidelines, this one line piece of crap is not a diary.
2. I don’t give a rip one way or the other about Arnie, he is what he is and IS about gone.
3. So what would Rice do and why do think she would do it. If anything, a case could be made that she’d be at least as muddleheaded as Arnie.

Ok Mbecker908

So you don’t like Rice and what about Meg Whitman? Who then? We can’t seem to find the local people who can properly articulate the issues. In California the situation is such that only sever deep cuts to the State Budget will solve the problem. The current group of legislators will not cut the parts of the budget that need to be cut. Salaries, pensions, unnecessary programs, these will not get cut.

Why Rice?

engineer4america (Diary) Wednesday, May 27th at 11:55PM EST (link)

This is a highly experienced, well educated, supremely connected leader. She understands international relations that impact California. You may not have liked what she did as Secretary of State but remember she was given instructions to execute whether she liked them or not.

I don't know what you're reading, but it ain't me.

I don’t necessarily “dislike” Rice. What I don’t know about her is basically anything. Her public persona is totally one of a highly placed member of the Bush Administration and I don’t hold W’s failures against her. OTOH, I believe she’s pro-choice (I know, it’s a plus for CA) and she was one of the worst SoS in my memory (hold the “old” jokes). At the end of the day, I have no Idea what she stands for or how she would fare in outright and open warfare with the CA Dems. I consider her to be pretty much a blank slate.

I know even less about Meg Whitman, except that I would guess – and I’m absolutely guessing – that she’d probably be better in an alley fight than Rice, but I wouldn’t want to argue the point.

With respect to your post below, I would argue that she’s not all that experienced as an executive. She absolutely sucked as SoS and her only redeeming characteristic was that she wasn’t Colin Powell. The establishment at State ran roughshod over her and I don’t consider that to be a good sign. As far as understanding international relations, who cares? California’s problems can’t be solved by good international relations. They can only be solved by a mean, nasty politician who’s willing to shut the damn state down to fix it.

Also, I’m not so sure that her tenure with Bush wouldn’t just kill her in CA.

What's wrong with Meg Whitman? nt

Meg Whitman

Nothing. I just need to know more about her. We also need to find local candidates that can bring more conservatives into the senate and the assembly

What's wrong with Whitman? Something must be...

McCain set to back Whitman for governor

The Associated Press is reporting that Meg Whitman, the former eBay chief who would be governor, will pick up Sen. John McCain’s endorsement on Friday at an event in Orange County, according to Whitman spokesman Mitch Zak.

Whitman and McCain are scheduled to host a town hall meeting Friday morning at the Marconi Auto Museum in Tustin.

The Arizona senator, the press release says, “will also be making an announcement regarding the 2010 California gubernatorial election.”

Deep Blue California?

engineer4america (Diary) Wednesday, May 27th at 11:17PM EST (link)

Take a look at the breakdown of California by county’s and you will find that only about 6 or 8 of the most populous coastal counties are deep blue. Look at how we blew the Democrat Governor out mid term and passed prop 8 all conserative issues. A governor that is a strong, experienced leader, who understands conservative values may be a leader that can help bring a voice that people can understand. Its just an idea.

California going Red

Would love to see it. Even if it is all squishy on the social issues, it would likely cause Dems to evolve, and we know they’re all big fans of that.

In the future we ask that short pieces like this not be put in the diaries section, but rather saved for the next open thread.

Future diaries of this brief nature, without orginal analysis, reporting, or research, will be subject to deletion.

Thank you.
