Civil War: Nancy Pelosi Hears A Painful Truth, Then Delivers One

Filmmaker Michael Moore had some harsh words for Nancy Pelosi on Monday. Responding to a tweet which criticized the Speaker, Moore wrote:

White people. Nobody likes giving up power. And they never see the writing on the wall. The new day arrives and no one has the heart to tell them they and their old tired privileged ways are over.

Although there was a lot of truth in Moore’s words, it was a painful dose of reality for Madame Speaker. Say what you will about the wisdom and experience one gains with age, Pelosi, at 79, is showing signs of mental decline. She certainly lacks the force she had in 2006 when she was first elected to the Speakership. I’m not insulting her. I’m merely pointing out the science of it. We all weaken with age.

I do disagree with Moore prefacing his tweet with “white people,” because race is irrelevant to this argument. Moore attaches “old tired privileged ways” to white people when it applies equally to black people. Think Elijah Cummings for one. But I digress.

What is most remarkable about Moore’s comments is that he is a fellow Democrat.

The infighting among Democrats in recent weeks has become notable. On Sunday, Pelosi mocked AOC during an appearance on “60 Minutes.” When asked about AOC and her group, she hissed “that’s like five people.” This story was covered by my colleague, Bonchie, here. He also has a post about Rep. Rashida Tlaib calling several Democratic party leaders racist which can be read here. And Sister Toldjah wrote yesterday (here) about the insults which have been flying back and forth between CNN’s Chris Cuomo and NBC News‘s Chuck Todd.

Well, old Nancy can give as good as she gets. She is traveling in Europe this week with a Congressional Delegation where she denigrated AOC once again. To be fair, however, she also included herself in the same group.

Speaking before a group on Monday at The London School of Economics and Political Science, Pelosi said, “When we won this election, it wasn’t in districts like mine or Alexandria’s. She’s a wonderful member of Congress as I think all of our colleagues will attest. But those are districts that are solidly Democratic.”

To make her point, she picked up a glass of water. “This glass of water would win with a ‘D’ next to its name in those districts.”

Pelosi wants everyone to understand that AOC’s victory was an easy one – that just being a Democrat was enough to win in NY-14.

The power struggle between the old guard and the new progressive wing of the party is becoming more and more apparent. The fact that all of the 2020 candidates are embracing the more radical agenda of AOC is very telling.

Very telling, but perhaps not too wise.
