Right On. No More RINOs.

charleskirtley (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 5:38AM EST (link)

I got scorched on RedState for posting a discussion where I said I would rather not vote, than vote for a RINO who would help the government statists get 50-75% of what they want, and declare it a great victory.

In fact, the moderators closed the discussion and later deleted it. So much for the free exchange of ideas.

I still think I am correct.

I’ve seen people get scorched on here for pointing out what a weak candidate Palin is as well. The support for her seems to border on being a crush. I like her personally and I regret how the GOP rushed her onto the national scene, but the truth is the majority of people in this country don’t take her seriously and she is an extremely weak candidate. I wouldn’t call her a RINO, but I don’t think she is particularly bright and I don’t think she would represent the cause well when confronted with problems.

As for RINOs, they leech your credibility, especially on financial matters. I could occasionally support them in places like MA if they supported fiscal conservatism, but on the national ticket and in conservative districts forget it.

After the Bush years and watching the antics of Michael Steele now, it is getting harder and harder to take the GOP seriously. If they can’t field a legit small-government, fiscal conservative in 2012 then I hope the tea party morphs into a legit party and fields their own candidate.

I hope you guys enjoy your time in the wilderness.

In the world of the clueless, you guys get to be King on alternate days.

Our time there will be short-lived.

edward_mosby (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:06AM EST (link)

The country will either turn to small-government, fiscal conservatives or it will go careening off a cliff.

The lightweights and pseudoconservatives the GOP has been coughing up are the one sure ticket to permanent irrelevance because they don’t stand for anything.

You’re just voting to slow the rate of decline; I’m choosing to vote against it altogether. To each his own.

Tell ya what edward_mosby

mbecker908 (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:18AM EST (link)

instead of whining about the state of the political world and giving us a list of people you won’t vote for, since you seem to be committed to a conservative majority why don’t you write a diary about the strategy to accomplish it.

Don’t forget that you have to recruit conservatives in Maine, a viable conservative in Arizona, one to run against Graham, I suspect you don’t like McConnell, so toss one in for him. And those are just the obvious ones in the Senate. You might want to discuss a coming pick up in November in North Dakota, I suspect the Republican candidate won’t pass your muster.

Then there’s the House. And, since I happen to live in Arizona I’ll comment on our races. There are three House seats currently held by Democrats that are ripe for the taking and we’ve got solid conservative candidates in each of those races. However, because JD Hayworth seems to have opted to mount a knights-in-armor charge against the windmill known as John McCain it’s likely several million dollars will be spent flogging that windmill to no good purpose since JD will lose by at least 30 points. That money could elect three Republicans to the House. As it is, they may starve for campaign cash.

I look forward to your contribution.

Respectfully,

edward_mosby (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:29AM EST (link)

I’ve already discussed this in my comment above. I’ll support the Scott Browns of the world for Congress in liberal strongholds. However, the GOP desperately needs presidential candidates who have strong small-goverment, fiscal conservative values they can fall back on.

There is this massive tea party movement out there and roughly 40% of people in this country will identify with conservatives, yet we can’t even seem to get a strong conservative on the ballot for president. Liberals make up roughly 20% of the country and yet they always seem to manage to have liberal representation nationally. It’s sickening.

If the GOP stuck to small-government, fiscally conservative guns, they may lose in the short term but in the long term they could change the national debate and force liberals back into hiding.

So my question is, edward_mosby...

eburke (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:24AM EST (link)

are you a precinct committeeman?

If you are – kudos and thanks for your service.

If you’re not – then you are part of the problem with the GOP as was I until 2 years ago. You see, like you, I was sick and tired of the hypocritical clowns that the GOP fielded. I read voraciously, sent ‘stuff’ to my *large* email group of political contacts, sent money into candidates, wrote my congressman, yadda…yadda…yadda.

Then, 2 years ago the thought of The One becoming our president scared the (site guidelines redacted word here) out of me so I attended our local caucus, and when the question got asked “who would like to serve as a precinct committeeman from precinct 2 ward 4?” I looked at my wife and stuck my hand up in the air.

Tomorrow, I will participate in step #1 of selecting all of our party’s candidates from governor to congressional representative to local representative. I have received in the last 3 weeks mailings, puff pieces and even phone calls from all sorts of candidates begging me to support them at the caucus.

Why? Because I am now an ‘insider’. *They* have to contact *me*. *They* have to suck up to *me* because I hold their future in my conservative little hands. *I* got to help select the most conservative slate of MN GOP party leaders since…whenever.

Going a 3rd party route is folly and suicide. Name a political 3rd party since 1860 that has survived. Not real good odds, my friend. What you *will* do if you go that route is ensure a split in conservative-minded voters and, thus, Marxist-Socialist Dem rule for a really long time.

So…if you don’t have about 6 hours a *YEAR* to get involved in the local GOP, you’re part of the problem…not the solution. The GOP has caused me to pull out what little is left of my hair. But it’s the only structure available with any hope of making a difference.

Or, to paraphrase Moe, you *are* the Party.

Fine, don't vote for a "RINO"

edward_mosby (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:23AM EST (link)

The GOP has been completely lost for over a decade. I’m advocating fixing it, including not voting for its weak representation if that’s what it takes.

edward, you've been here long enough to see posters get "flamed" but not to read about Precinct Committeemen?

nessa (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 9:42AM EST (link)

If you’re advocating fixing the Republican Party you’ll fit right in here. If you’re advocating bailing out, wasting your vote and taking others with you when you do it, you’ll get nothing but derision here.

If you want to fix the Republican Party become an active part of it and set about fixing it. Learn how here. The Precinct Committeeman Project.

As I stated already,

edward_mosby (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:34AM EST (link)

I am a conservative first and foremost. Third party’s are a valid way to force the two larger parties to take up issues. If the Republican Party can’t field a serious presidential candidate that takes up the Tea Party and conservative banner, it deserves to be replaced.

I hope it doesn’t come to that but what I see coming out of the Michael Steele GOP is sad.

I have to go to work. In all seriousness, have a nice day.

RedStaters Are Pitiful

charleskirtley (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:45AM EST (link)

I thought it was the left that wanted to shut down talk radio and others that disagree with them. I thought it was the left who called names and made disparaging comments. I thought it was the left who wanted to control conversations by using political correctness and similar ploys. In fact it appears that both the left and the right are afraid of new or different ideas.

Respectfully, I have to go to bed. Good night.

conservative and *Republican* ideas.

If you wish to promote simply ‘conservative’ ideas – it’s a free country. Start your own site.

If you wish to work within the Republican Party to infuse it with conservative ideas and candidates, welcome aboard. If you’re here to promote 3rd parties, or a refusal to work with what the GOP has to offer until we get to where we want to go, history says you’re promoting folly. The site does not exist to promote folly.

If that makes us pitiful…well, there’s always the “Off” button.

No, RedStaters are not "pitiful."

penguin2 (Diary) Monday, February 1st at 8:56AM EST (link)

You are the one who comes to our house intent on trying to shoot down reasoned ideas. If you think not voting or trying to focus on a third party is going to help us, you are wrong. While we cannot have everything ideal for our side, even 50-75% of the time is better than ZERO percent. Which is what we will have you and others thinking like you, do not vote or support a third party.

The fight to forward conservatives should be in valid primaries which put the candidates before the people (and, IMHO, registered Republicans).

If the conservative can’t win in the primary, we accept the will of the people, hold our noses if necessary and vote REPUBLICAN.

The primary process is FLAWED. Two states should not decide our candidate.
