2008 Winners and Losers

Winners and Losers

Big Loser: John McCain and Moderate Republicans

Its time for the Party to return to it’s Conservative Roots.

Big Winner: Conservatisim.

While it will hurt our nation while we experience a hard left turn, in the end, Conseravatism will re-emerge as the dominate political position. The experiment with Moderatism should be over. Moderates have lost every time they have tried.

Big Winner: Obama and Moderate Democrats.

Even though Obama is a radical leftist, he ran as a centrist. Also, the majority of Democrats elected ran as Centrist. Liberals lose elections, so they must disguise who they are.

Big Loser: Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid

They where the head of the Democrat power base, they now must play second fiddle to Obama.

Big Winner: Mitch McConnell (New Head of the Republican Party)

Who is now the voice of the Republican Party until a new leader is chosen in 2012. As the Minority Senate leader, he is the only republican in place who can slow down the onslaught of Liberalism we are about to face by virtual of the filibuster.

Big Losers: The Clintons

They are history, they can no longer hope to return to the white house. The most they can now hope for is a Senator Clinton.

Big Loser: The American Economy.

Looks like the Jimmy Carters years all over again.

Big Loser: Republican Congress for the years 2008-2010
Big Winner: Republican Congress for the Years 2010-2014

If History is any judge, the Democrats will mess things up so bad that the Republicans will get a chance to redeem themselves in two years.

Small Loser: Palin

Just like other VPs of defeated Republicans Presidential hopefuls, she will take a hit. Right now she needs to return to Alaska and complete her term as Governor. In two years, she can re-evaluate her position. Should she seek the Presidency in the future, she has a small base of support she can draw from. Its not nearly enough to get her nominated, but it is a starting point.

Small Loser: Huckabee

Because of the Rise of Palin among Social conservatives, Huckabee may have to compete with Palin for this important republican group.

Small Winner: Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, and to a smaller extent, Fred Thompson, Jeb Bush, and Palin.

The race for 2012 has just begun. These are the top 5 candidates who have to be on the top of the list. There will be little room for any other candidates. If the primaries where to being held today, it Would be Huckabee against Romney. But 2 Years (thats right 2 years), is a life time. In two years, candidates who intend to run must start building support. If Palin does decide to make a run, then she and Huckabee must fight for the Social Conservative (Evangelical vote). The fiscal conservative Vote will likely go some where else. And of course, we may yet see the emergence of another candidate, but that is unlikely. History in the Republican party shows that 2nd place winners in the nomination process usually get their shot the second time around. Now, one could argue who was 2nd, but there is little argument that Romney and Huckabee where (2nd and close 3rd) regardless what order you put them in. Of course, there is always a chance that one or both of them may decide not to run in 2012.

Forget Jeb, Fred, and the Huckster

scottbomb (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 1:26PM EST (link)

Another Bush? No way. Don’t get me wrong, I love GW. He’s been a very good president, I don’t care what anyone says. But the public will not elect another Bush even if he were Reagan re-incarnated.

Sadly I say, Fred Thompson is probably not the best choice for 2012. I wish I could say otherwise as I’ve been a Fred-head from the word go. But we must face the truth: Obama won on his image, youth, and race. That’s it. No Obama supporter I know (and there are quite a few) could cite a single issue Obama stood for. Fred will be 4 years older in 2008 and we saw what McCain’s age did for him this year.

As for the Huckster, I think he carries some of the blame for our loss. Huckabee swarmed in, sucked the wind out of Romney’s sails, and just as quickly faded from the scene.

As of today, that leaves only two worth considering: Palin and Jindal. Palin has star power, conservative values, youth, and fearlessness. She connects with the average Joe. A few months back, Rush Limbaugh called Bobby Jindal the next Reagan. In the 10+ years I’ve been listening to Rush (seldom missing a show) he’s never said that about anyone.

Finally, I BEG the GOP to NOT put forth another crowd like we had this year. Too many nominees only confuses the electorate. The Dems kept it simple: “Clinton or Obama, take your pick.” (I know, they had Biden and Edwards in there too but they were taken about as seriously as HWSNBN.)

The damage is minimal

The defeat belongs squarely to McCain. Palin was along for the ride and was forced to parrot what he said. I simply can’t equate her to the ghosts of failed VP pasts such as Jack Kemp or Geraldine Ferraro. Her actions before and after the election show that she’s aiming to make a run. She’s irked at how the McCain camp handled her, and really fed up with the media. She’s coming back, and with a vengeance. We’ll have to see who signs up for a run in 2012. She’ll be one of them.

The damage on Palin is not minimal.

She killed herself with independents with those interviews and now there will be far fewer Republicans apt to defend her now that the national ticket is not at stake. Now she is an obstacle for other Republicans that have national ambitions. I don’t think she will be able to withstand some of her more formidable opponents.

I for one, have no interest in defending her at all. I have my own favorite horses in the race.

Hey Staunch Libertarian,

I had with you anti-Palin types. This woman was shoved into a tough spot and handle herself incredibly well given the situation.

She and Todd are the same ages as my wife and I. One of our children is also special needs. We probably have similar incomes.

I relate to her unlike any other candidate. She’s got charisma that I love. I hope she does run in the future. For now, why don’t you lay off, alright!!!

McConnell is toast.

You may be right if the clock stopped ticking last November 4.

No. Palin is so young and highly energetic. And she can still hone her talents while Alaska a a governor.

All the ghosts of the past about her will be gone forever. Even Clinton, the Bushes, Obama, Reagan, etc. have skeletons in the closet (both personal and political).

Note that even Reagan lost in the primaries twice but was able to comeback successfully.

I agree bigfoot.

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 7:44PM EST (link)

Palin is now the major rival and opposer of Pres. elect Obama.

The biggest loser is Ron Paul.

He will never be accepted by the Party again. Many will oppose his participation at any primaries in the future.

Unlike Reagan who supported the winners of two primaries despite his disagreement with them, Ron was found to be lacking in “character” by acting like a kiddo after losing to McCain and punish the Party by seeking its defeat and by alluding to its destruction.

Ron’s sin is unforgivable.

We are now the minority.

Rod_Patrick (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 7:49PM EST (link)

A minority thrives by opposing the majority.

But No. McConnell has been too bipartisan… too inutile for the job.

This bipartisanship is the reason that the voters could hardly understand why the Financial Crisis should be blamed to the Democrats and Obama’s minions.

Agree about Paul

bigfoot (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 8:10PM EST (link)

Ron Paul is nuttier than a fruitcake. He strikes me as a fellow who hangs with Dennis Kucinich looking to skies to communicate with the next UFO they see.

Man, could you imagine what these imaginary Aliens might think of we earthlings after talking to those two clowns.

Bipartisanship makes me puke

bigfoot (Diary) Thursday, November 6th at 8:16PM EST (link)

Seriously, when has bipartisianship ever pushed the conservative agenda forward. Liberals push for liberalism. I oppose their agenda with every cell that makes up my body. However, I don’t blame them for it. It’s their duty if they believe it.

I just want some damn representation in Washington. I am a conservative and feel like I get bupkus.
