We’ve actually probably only got one other potential candidate who can say that and that would be Rudy. 1. With reference to my Rudy comments, I understand two things about Rudy. One, I doubt he’ll run given the disaster last time and two, the threat of the VV wing to stay home will likely cost him the primary even though he’s better on abortion – in a real sense – than Huckabee.
2. JD will be like Kennedy when he ran for POTUS. His popularity peaked on the day he announced. You have no idea how really disliked JD is around here, even by conservatives.
3. I’m guessing that Ras talked to current registered Republicans since AZ has a closed primary. Put JD on the ticket and the R registration will skyrocket with independents who will vote agaist him.
4. JD didn’t lose in ’08 because of either Abramoff or immigration. He lost because people are tired of listening to him. He’s a whiner. Plays well on talk radio, not in a campaign.
5. JD can’t raise significant money in AZ. McCain is sitting on about $6MM and can raise twice that if he needs to. He can spend it all in the primary because there won’t be a Democrat running against him in the general who’s known outside his/her personal residence and they won’t be able to raise ANY money to fight McCain because they’ve got real seats to defend.
