To majority media and other Democrats : we police our own, and you don’t get to judge

Drop dead.

By all means report the facts. I’m sure you’ll be happy to cover every salacious detail. Have at it. Be sure to cover the pain and suffering of Governor Sanford’s family. While you are at it, cover the depth to which all South Carolina and nation-wide Republicans and conservatives rightly feel betrayed.

Beyond that, just shut up. Shut your lying, hypocritical, power-above-patriotism, hyper-partisan, two-faced, shamelessly double-standard bearing pie hole.

You don’t get to judge.

.

The Library of Congress could hardly contain chapter and verse of the multitudes of ways the press and the other Democrats have gotten away with judging Republicans by wholly different standards than that applied to Democrats. But that double standard is both obvious and as wide as the Grand Canyon. You show no honor, no equity, no fairness, and no scruples yourselves. You, to put it mildly, do not police your own.

We do. We’ll deal with Sanford. We have standards (you don’t), and we have a long history of punishing and purging our leaders who prove unworthy of trust. For your part, serial adulterer Bill Clinton remains a rock star as far as you are concerned, and that about sums up the standards to which Democrats hold themselves..

So, spare us your mock outrage, your tut-tutting, your finger-wagging, your eyebrows furrowed in anger. If you are well and truly outraged by Mark Sanford’s adultery, but could not trouble yourself to muster even a little mild disapproval against the cretin who wiped his feet with the honor of the office of President of the United States, then you are a hypocrite yourself of the lowest stripe. You are unworthy to judge.

So just shut up.

It's not outrage over the affair

arationalthinker Wednesday, June 24th at 5:10PM EST (link)

There would be no outrage if not for the Republican mantra of “family values” and legislating morality for others. Then again, those outraging are high strung and not worth listening to anyways.

Ok, so the left hates family values and morals.

Democrats want to control, and profit from, every aspect of human behavior.

To suggest that Republicans, who didn’t try to change the taste of food, or dictate to Americans what they could drive, are imposing their beliefs on others, while Democrats are some force for freedom, displays an ignorance, or willful deceit, on the part of anyone uttering such nonsense.

Just park it, Democrats.
You played this card until it wore through.
You told us to shut up countless times.

Legislating morality? Wrong party, pal . . .

CSUFBomb (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 7:40PM EST (link)

I live in the California, otherwise known as “Obama’s blueprint”.

Under a Democrat legislature, I’m told what I can eat (the trans-fat police know best), what I can drive (and, coming soon, what color car I can buy), what kind of television I can watch, what kind of light bulbs to buy, how much water to use (and how much to set aside for the smelt), how long I can run my air conditioner in the summer, and how much of my paycheck I’m entitled to keep for my family after making sure the public employee unions, illegals, and professional welfare recipients are cared for.

Democrats just love to legislate morality for the sake of global warming, fat wallet special interest groups, irresponsible dependents of the state, and every fringe wacko with a loud enough grievance. Legislating morality is a Democrat mantra . . . own it.

Categorically_Imperative Wednesday, June 24th at 5:38PM EST (link)

Can’t say I’ve noticed him drawing much support, but I haven’t been following it closely. As to the ‘biggest leaders’ point, I don’t think Frank really qualifies, and I’m not sure what offense you think he committed. As to Kennedy and Clinton, it’s not like their leadership was limited to the Democratic Party; given that they won presidential elections, it would seem that the citizenry didn’t find their philandering to be a firing offense, either.

That being said, Gingrich wasn’t exactly taken down a peg for his issues, and is positioning himself for a 2012 run as we speak. I’m sure you’ll dispute that Limbaugh is a GOP leader, but his multiple moral failings haven’t diminished his stature in the eyes of the right.

But most interestingly, I take it from your response that your vaunted “standards” when it comes to adultery amount to this: you won’t really do anything, but you will refuse to vote for the adulterer for President.

A brave, brave stand indeed.

Riddle for you. What committee is he the chairman of? Has that committee in the last, say 2 years, presided over a sector of the nation that has been, shall we say, newsworthy? Significant?

Barney’s sexual escapades should require no explanation, really. And that little matter of his using his influence to get his gay prostitute’s parking tickets fixed, and him admitting to having paid said person for sex.

You will not lay credit for Clinton’s election on Republicans. That is just stupid. Gingrich enjoys tepid support at best in his presidential aspirations, and his indiscretions directly affected his fall from power in the party. So BS to you on that as well.

You continue to make the assumption that we have to take our sinners out and shoot them, else we are not “dealing” with them. Again, BS.

Categorically_Imperative Wednesday, June 24th at 6:23PM EST (link)

But yes, Frank has certainly been in the news lately. Then again, prior to the last 2 years or so, Barney was rarely heard from and considered by no one to be a leader of the Dems (I still don’t think most people from either party would consider him a leader).

My heavens, what scandal! Parking tickets wiped off the books!! Heavens to mergatroid – what will happen next? BTW, what happened with GW Bush’s DUI charge? Is that more significant than a handful of parking tickets? More importantly, if fixing parking tickets is an abuse of power warranting expungement from office, we’re going to need 100 new senators and 435 new reps, ASAP.

Again, it is clear that your version of ‘policing your own’ amounts to not voting for adulterers for president. I am awed by your moral courage.

whatever

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 6:32PM EST (link)

So yeah, our standard is, more or less, we will not be led by people who are untrustworthy in their personal lives. Not just for president. There are other things we find unacceptable in our leaders as well, but adultery seems to be the topic of the day. Some how it seems that you suppose we should judge our own more harshly. Public beatings? Beheadings? What? What would satisfy you? Since you have no standards yourselves, why do you care how we deal with our own?

Inre Barney Franks – those are actually crimes. And no, he’s a party leader. Deal with it. He de facto runs Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac, along with tax cheat Chris Dodd.

He won’t be our nominee for president, something for which he was clearly in the running. He’s not even 50 yet and his career in politics is finished. I don’t think I’m the only one who sees that as a pretty big deal.

As for Clinton and Kennedy. Face it, even with his serial philandering and rape of Juanita Broaddrick, you Femocrats just love Clinton. In fact you can’t get enough of the guy. Same with another serial adulterer, the drunken dirt bag Ted Kennedy, who allowed Mary Jo Kopechne to drown to death. Anyway, the point of the original post was that you guys have these high standards and are capable of policing your own. Frankly, I don’t think Sanford should resign because of the affair. I think he *might* need to resign because of his abdication of the governorship for a week without informing seemingly anyone, including the Lt. Gov., as well as the fact that he may have spent taxpayer cash to finance visits to his mistress. I’d need to know more details about who knew where he was, etc. before rendering any judgment on his resignation, though.

I’ll get right back to you on Clinton after I see your voluminous evidence supporting Scooter Libby’s conviction and decrying Bush’s commutation of his sentence. Because, see, Libby was actually convicted of crimes, whereas Clinton’s “perjury” “suborned perjury” and “violation of sexual harassment laws” were never proven and exist primarily in your fevered imagination.

Libby’s conviction was an outrage. It was the grossest miscarriage of justice I’ve seen since OJ was acquitted. The man who actually DID leak Valerie Plame’s name got away scott free, while Libby was tried and convicted for his memory having failed him (not for the leak).

The judge should have thrown out the conviction as soon as the jury started talking about pardons. Not that any of this should matter anyway, because Valerie Plame WAS NOT A COVERT OPERATIVE. Her name was fair game because of her involvement in sending Joe Wilson to Niger while the press was saying Cheney was sending him, which makes Libby’s conviction all the more an outrage. McGreevey was involved in more than just

janis (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 5:32PM EST (link)

“serving the public while serving his fellow man as well.” You might want to go back and take a look at the other offenses–one of them being his boyfriend getting a job with the state that he wasn’t qualified for, if memory serves.

Well,

Jingles (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 5:42PM EST (link)

He did resign. He probably should have been on trial for corruption. He was able to use his homosexuality and the affair as a smokescreen, and nobody really paid much attention to the whole boyfriend thing.

Then don't use him as a standard of having to resign

janis (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 5:51PM EST (link)

just for being gay. He was corrupt in a number of situations and should never have been in public office of any kind. To my knowledge, that does not apply to Governor Sanford.

You sound like you’re having a really good time with this incident, Jingles. Why is it that people on your side of the aisle sound so moronically gleeful when a good person stumbles or falls? Could it be that it makes all of you feel so good about your own lack of morals?

Janis,

Jingles (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 6:02PM EST (link)

I was agreeing with you on McGreevey, inasmuch as he used sex to cover up his corruption and got away with it. In my opinion, Sanford can stay governor as long as he wants, but my opinion doesn’t matter.

And well, I’m more frustrated than gleeful. I suppose it comes from the fact that I think that discussions of sex, adultery and sexual orientation (for consenting adults) have no place in the political sphere. Many Democrats feel the same way. It is my opinion that many Republicans do not, thus, when a member of a party that appears to treat sex as a political weapon gets burned, it’s just desserts.

If this incident helps us move toward a public square that takes sex out of the equation, all the better.

And my morals and ethics are not lacking, but thanks for asking.

You brought up McGreevey in the context of someone

janis (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 6:47PM EST (link)

who had to resign just because they were gay. I refuted that. I don’t see the Republican Party using sex as a political weapon. Indeed, if you can point out a group who does do that, I believe it would be the GLBT lobby who is primarily of your own party. We’d all be grateful if they’d quit pushing their preferences of private behavior out in public and to also stop demanding that the rest of us have to validate their choices. Thanks so much.

"And my morals and ethics are not lacking, but thanks for asking..."

Jack_Savage (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 8:54PM EST (link)

Yes, indeed.

Charles Cianfrocca (Diary) Wednesday, June 24th at 5:56PM EST (link)

If Spitzer hadn’t committed one of the specific crimes he was himself so hell-bent on prosecuting, but had rather simply cheated on his wife with an consenting adult, who thinks he wouldn’t still be in office?

It’s the crime, stupid. Same with McGreevey. Hell: Bawny Fwank ran a prostitution ring in his apartment, and he didn’t even get his pee pee whacked for it. He was still in the right place to destroy our economy when the time came for it.

Now name a Democrat that lost ANYTHING in terms of position for simply having an affair, whether gay or natural, no crime involved. Never happen.

BTW: still waiting for some matter of morality Sanford was pushing for a new law about.

Not defending him, mind. Just pointing out that most of the hypocricy-based outrage is not only laughable on the merits, but based on lies in the first place.

“Get your hand out of my pocket. Ain’t nothin’ there that belongs to you.”

tororojo66 Wednesday, June 24th at 6:25PM EST (link)

Q Should South Carolina recognize civil unions between same-sex couples?
A: No.
Q: Should South Carolina restrict marriage to a union only between a man and a woman?
A: Yes.

OMG!!!! Sanford's 'legislating morality' extends to wishing

This post is ridiculous. It is no surprise the media is having a field day with this and to try and point out hypocrisy or the ridiculous nature of main stream media criticism is futile. As for the whole we police our own thing…..

do you really want that to be your job. Where were you when vitter was messing around, where were you when Ensign was messing around. If “we” police our own then we are about as ineffective as a set of cowardly british bobbies.

The only person you “police” is yourself. You may think you police your family, your children, and apparently your politicians. But you do not. You came into this world along and will leave it that way too. The only person you can truly depend on for anything is yourself, you might find that harsh but sometimes the truth is harsh. That being said the only person you can truly police is yourself, so keep your self from cheating on your wife but forget about trying to get others to do what you want.

The fact of the matter is all politicians suck. Even the best brighest conservative is probably going to be corrupted in one way or the other. I dont say this because I am cynical, I say this because I can look at history without my politics coloring what I see.

Stop putting faith in politicians. for the most part they are ALL EVIL BLOOD SUCKING SCUM BAGS WHO WOULD STEP OVER YOUR DEAD BODY TO GET SOMETHING THEY WANTED.

Things are coming out in bits and pieces but this is sure starting to look like a hit job from his rivals in the Republican party who apparently had known about this affair for quite some time. The local newspaper has emails between the Gov. and his lover since December. It was other Republicans who pushed the “where is he” line. It is good he was “outed” now only because, his mental state seems real erratic, but the fact that his own party went after him is ..revolting.

Gov. Sanford may very well need to resign. His actions in leaving the state show that there may well be some emotional/mental health issue that calls for it. I still haven’t seen anything in this that tells me he is the kind of misogynist pig that Bill Clinton, Ted Kennedy et al are. It was never “just the adultery” for those guys, it was a sense that you couldn’t leave your daughter alone with one of them for five minutes. Here I see a middle aged guy who “fell in love.” It is a story as old as time. Temporary insanity often comes with it.

This seems to happen a lot when men are in their late 40s and early 50s not sure why but they start a second family. All the dads there have at least tweny years or more on me. My gripe is that he announced it. He should have been discreet apart from his career and the country what about his wife. Maybe he doesn’t care about her but she is still wife and she deserves more respect than having her husband announce this on the 6pm news. Great point there is a big difference between a married man falling in love and a low life.

Unless you count the oath of office. I’m more concerned that he took off without telling his staff. South Carolina has had its share of natural disasters, and you’d think a “good governor” would at least leave a phone number on the refrigerator door.

There have been governors who have temporarily passed the powers of their office over to the Lt. when they’ve gone under general anesthesia for surgery.

[What part of shut up don't you understand? – NS]

In what world do you police your own? Why is Newt Gingrich still a prominent figure in the party? He had an affair after impeaching President Clinton for lying about an affair. Why did John McCain get the Republican Presidential Nomination? How about Giuliani? Is Vitter less contemptible because he paid and helped the free market? Ensign doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I guess if they break ranks and have gay affairs they are out (circa Foley and Craig, though admittedly the latter managed to stay for the rest of his term). So I guess I should ask again…in what world do you police your own?

Sure, they can act as though they are shocked and upset but they are still the biggest hypocrites in this country. We DO take care of our own. That’s more than they could say. Matter of fact, were Sandford a democrat he’d probably get a standing ovation for telling the truth and admitting his indescretion. Media Danger

OccamsRazor (Diary) Thursday, June 25th at 2:07AM EST (link)

The problem stems from the concept of the Freedom of press, the very Constitution. The History of our United States of America began under the premise in which it would fight AGAINST insane ideologies such as ‘Pravda’.

The true journalists of the time took genuine pride in looking at both sides of an issue and being as objective as possible. Today, the gig is up.

In traditional American media, it’s Fox News against everybody else.

At Least in _FRANCE_ there’s no disguise in their media.

My prediction is that as The American Media Mask is removed, it’s anticipated by then it’ll be too late.

When I went to school, before NOW and the women’s movement, we were taught when writing and referring to an unspecified person or to someone generally to use the male pronouns. It wasn’t “he/she”, “him/her”, or “his/hers”. Even then some of the girls in class kinda groaned at that particular grammatical rule.

Activism: What to do after the TEA party rally. Unified Patriots

TN, that is still the convention though...

DONTREADONME (Diary) Sunday, June 28th at 1:14AM EST (link)

and I love angering women when I do it, plus I tell them that it is still grammatically appropriate to use solely the male pronoun. Yet when they do the editing they keep giving it back with his or her, and I change it back, it really irritates them and I say, why do you waste your time over this. Plus, if it angers her when I do that, it gives me power over her, needless to say she stopped doing that after that.

That’s ten who have such a faint grasp on the written word that “Shut up” eludes their understandings. Add in the number of bans Moe got here and this has to be a record of some sort – NS

“We have standards (you don’t), and we have a long history of punishing and purging our leaders who prove unworthy of trust.”

Really? Hmmm.

Eliot Spitzer? Caught using prostitutes. Resigned.

David Vitter? Caught using the DC Madam’s “escort” service. Still in his Senate seat. Said he “sinned” and was sorry. Running for re-election. Received loud standing ovation at closed Republican Senate luncheon.

Larry “wide stance” Craig? Served out remaining 18 months of Senate term following arrest for lewd conduct in MSP international airport bathroom and subsequent guilty plea and conviction for disorderly conduct. Said of Clinton on Meet the Press, 1999: “”The American people already know that Bill Clinton is a bad boy – a naughty boy. I’m going to speak out for the citizens of my state, who in the majority think that Bill Clinton is probably even a nasty, bad, naughty boy.”

So much for the long history.

Mark Sanford? Well, let’s listen to the GOP talkingheads on the Sunday talk shows.

Gov. Haley Barbour on Face the Nation:

BOB SCHIEFFER: … Should [Sanford] also resign as the governor of South Carolina?

GOV. HALEY BARBOUR (Chairman, Republican Governors Association): Well, I don’t think so, but that’s up to the people of South Carolina. But no, I don’t think so.

BOB SCHIEFFER: This seems to go beyond … this relationship. He was basically missing in action for five days. … He was not there. People didn’t know where he was. …

GOV. HALEY BARBOUR: You know, Bob, I don’t know all the details. … I’ve made it my policy, I just don’t talk about people’s personal problems. I don’t–I don’t think it’s appropriate, I don’t think it’s polite, and I don’t think it–it achieves any purpose.

Flashback! Barbour on 1998-09-15, on Brit Hume: “And now we have this president who treated Monica Lewinsky in such a way that it makes prostitution look dignified and ennobling. I mean, he made her a sex toy, a sex object.”

Oops.

Lindsey Graham on Meet the Press: “My main focus right now is can this marriage be saved? Can these kids have a mom and dad to guide them through life? That is my main focus. I think if Mark can reconcile with Jenny, and that’s not going to be easy, that he can finish his last 18 months. He’s had a good reform agenda. And I do believe that if, if he can reconcile with his family and if he’s willing to try, that the people of South Carolina would be willing to give him a second chance.”

Mitt Romney, immediately following Graham: “You know, his, his holding onto that job is really between him and his family and the, and the people of South Carolina. It’s not for people outside the state to make pronouncements on. This is a matter which is really a heartbreaking matter, and that’s what I think you have to focus on.”

More from Graham on the same show: “And part of life is failing. So from Mark’s point of view, if he can get his family back together, people are pretty fair in this country. Bill Clinton had his problems. People looked at his job performance, they looked at his personal failings and they said, “You know what, we’re going to put one over here and the other over there.” That’s no justification for what Mark did, but I think the people of South Carolina appreciate what Mark tried to do as governor to change their state.”

Mitch McConnell on Fox News Sunday:

BAIER: What is your reaction, Senator, to the developments in South Carolina with Governor Mark Sanford?

MCCONNELL: Look, we’re working on health care and the people’s business, and that’s what — that’s what we’re doing in the Senate.

BAIER: Do you think he should resign?

MCCONNELL: We’re going to continue to deal with the people’s agenda here in Washington, and that’s what we’re going to concentrate on.

BAIER: But being out of the country — in his words, crying in Argentina for five days — without telling anyone where he was, there are lawmakers who are calling for his resignation.

MCCONNELL: We’re going to concentrate in the United Senate — in the States Senate on national issues like health care and climate change and Supreme Court appointments.

BAIER: But this is the second prominent Republican to announce an affair in as many weeks, with Nevada senator John Ensign coming out. What does this mean for your party?

MCCONNELL: Bret, I think the important thing for us to do for the American people is the business we were elected to do.

Yep… that shooooore is purgin’ and punishin’ language.

Standards? I guess you could call those standards. Out here in reality-land, we call those “*double* standards.”
