Funny thing happened on the way to the Tea Party™. Earlier this week, blogger Doug Ross — aka DirectorBlue — noticed, in a 24-hour span, The Curious Case of 200 Nearly Identical Headlines – a whole bunch of stories, all across America, coordinating an all-out media blitz designed to convince you that there is a crisis of uninsuredness – and hoping we’ll conclude that a government takeover of the entire health system is urgently needed.
A quick sampling (please go to the link above, all these and more articles are linked from there):
- Third of Illinoisans went without health insurance in last 2 years: Sun-Times
- Report: 2.5M in Michigan lacked health insurance: Chicago Tribune
- Study: 29% of Ohioans have gone without health insurance: BizJournals
- Report: More NJ residents lacking health insurance: Forbes
- Study: Many Kansans are uninsured: BizJournals
- Report tallies uninsured in Hawaii: KPUA AM 670
- Study: 1 in 3 Alabamians have no insurance: BizJournals
- 1 out of 4 NH residents lacked health insurance within last two years: WBZ
- 1 out of 3 Coloradans lacked insurance in past two years: Denver Post
- Nearly 1 in 3 Idahoans lack health insurance, study says: Idaho Statesman
- One in four nonelderly Minnesotans has been without health insurance, study shows: Twin Cities
- 1 in 3 are uninsured in Georgia, study says: Augusta Chronicle
200 of these. One 24-hour period. Coincidence? Could be, but it’s not. Here’s how we know……
Busted. It’s coordinated.
Two hundred journalists across America might all, in a short timespan, suddenly develop the urge to write on the plight of uninsured Americas. Hey, it happens. Global Warming has side effects we know nothing about. But what are the odds that they would all cite Families USA as a source of statistics? Within a 24-hour period? Yeah, I didn’t think so either.
Mislabeled Lefty Sources
But wait, there’s more. Coordination is cool. We do it. Lying, however, is NOT cool. And these 200 articles are lying, as is Families USA. These articles cite statistics and comments from Families USA (who call themselves “The Voice For Health Care Consumers”), calling them variously a non-profit, non-partisan think tank, and a consumer advocacy group. But the Hawaiian one points out that the “liberal advocacy group has worked for years to expand health care coverage”. [Good on KPUA for that, by the way. But I wonder, what possessed them to let a little truth slip in amongst the propaganda anyway?]
DirectorBlue offers up some more realistic statistics about the real state of uninsuredness, and it’s hardly bleak. By all means, go see.
Connections with ACORN
Families USA is an interesting bunch. According to Discover the Networks, a righty watchdog, FUSA is part of the Progressive States Network, dedicated to passing leftist legislation nationally and in all 50 sates. They coordiate with some of our favorite groups: ACORN [stealing elections so you don't have to], AFL-CIO, SIEU, and People for the Un-American Way (and many, many more).
DirectorBlue had a commenter who wished to remain anonymous offer this about Familes USA [this is unsourced, unconfirmed, I offer it on those terms]:
…I was struck by the promotion of this material by Families USA. When I was involved with [group] a few years ago, we checked out Families USA and found that they had almost no individual contributors to their non-profit organization. We obtained their 990 from IRS and found that we were totally funded by Big Labor and served as a “front group” in every sense of the term…
…Unlike the Heritage Foundation [for example], that proudly talks about grass roots financial support from 300,000 Americans, Families has no such support. All they get is a fat check from Big Labor.
Leftist Agenda
So why did the 200 articles blitz us with statistics from a liberal think tank? Hardly rocket science, my friends. The media want socialized health care. They are dedicated leftist hacks and they are willing to lie, cheat, and steal to achieve their ends.
Because we can mock them
we shall.
In closing, DayByDay Cartoons offers this one (revised slightly):

The lemmings have no idea what is going on. They read it and trust the news. We’ve got to break that link if we’re going to keep America from disappearing into a socialist death spiral.

Aaron Gardner (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 12:00PM EST (link)Everyday I read the posts of many who complain about the MSM and their left wing bias….this is definitive proof of that.
Let’s go people send this article to friends who are on the fence…digg it…stumble upon it Rigg it….do what you can.
If you don’t, then stop complaining about the left wing bias, because apparently you don’t care to actually stop it if that requires you to step outside of your comfort zone.

stang (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 12:27PM EST (link)Rowan Scarborough has a great column up at our sister site, Human Events, about Fenton Communications and their role in the left’s on going campaign to smear anything or anybody conservative.
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=31396
“Conservatives know liberals have built a powerful network of pressure groups who have entree — where right wing groups do not — into the newsrooms of the New York Times, Washington Post, NBC News and other left-leaning outlets.
What is not well known is that Fenton Communications, founded by liberal activist David Fenton, binds the two together to produce explosive public relations campaigns that conservatives have trouble matching or rebuffing.”
Anyone want to wager Fenton is on the Journo-list?
“Propaganda is to a democracy what the bludgeon is to a totalitarian state.”
Noam Chomsky
“Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any farther obedience, and are left to the common refuge which God hath provided for all men against force and violence.”

I can guarantee Fenton is on it

janis (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 1:17PM EST (link)Great job. So the more this habit gets pointed out, i.e., producing the same stories on the same day, can we count on them to REALLY overreach to the absolutely ridiculous limit?
And I have to log off now, the tornadoes here in TN are getting uncomfortably close. Bye all.
Good luck, and keep your head down, janis. nt

Thanks for the good luck wish, Achance. It worked!
janis (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 10:11PM EST (link)It’s been a very bad Good Friday for a lot of folks in Murfreesboro, TN today, but, even with all the damage, there were only two fatalities. Sadly enough, one was a very young baby and the other was the baby’s mother. The dad is in critical condition. Many homes were leveled or very badly damaged, and at least 35 people were injured, 7 or 8 critically. There’s a lot of video that came out of this storm, so you should all Google it to watch. One of them was shot by the ABC affiliate while the weather folks were doing their storm warning routine. The funnel came down right there live on TV, crossed an interstate, and then grew triple in size in just a few seconds.
We’re about 35 miles from Murfreesboro, so we looked at the storm tracks, packed up what we couldn’t live without–our grandkids–and headed for the storm cellar. And after seeing the devastation that resulted from this batch of storms, we are truly blessed this Easter, particularly because I have family and lots of friends in Murfreesboro and they are all okay. My niece and her two kids were just getting ready to turn onto a westbound road to go home when she looked up and saw the funnel cloud I mentioned. She did a U-turn on a major city street and went the other way as fast as she could. Her husband works at the local hospital which had gone to disaster status immediately.
My prayers are for all those who lost so much but considered themselves fortunate to have their loved ones still alive. And for the baby and mother who died, well, I am glad they are together in eternity. It is heartbreaking to think, though, of the husband and father who is left behind…….
Teh wow!

Amy Miller (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 2:01PM EST (link)Good Lord, these people are so obvious it’s disappointing. If I were to plan something sneaky and underhanded, I’d do it with finesse. I wouldn’t orchestrate some sort of transparent, coordinated media coup, then prance around shrugging my shoulders and grinning about it.
I’m linking to this on Facebook…got into a brawl recently about the JournoList. No one believed me. Perhaps I’ll share some of the screaming-meemee responses I get

Mike gamecock DeVine (Diary) Friday, April 10th at 2:22PM EST (link)One of my favorite things to do is go thru the newspaper and note how
a) headlines lie and don’t martch the facts in the articles
b) the first paragraphs and all paras. on the front page are liberal propaganda
c) how many will have a CYA section in the last paragrapgh or two that actually states the crucial facts as afterthoughts
a recent example was how all the stories on the gates defense budget waithed till the last paragraph to mention sdi cuts
