I completely echo Doc's observations here and here - identical to what I encounter, including the difficulty in getting updated comments without closing down IE7 and then reopening and logging in again.

for the netherworld. I wont forget the one who recco'ed it. That is one thing about the Doc, he does not forget friends. Nothing against any poster who did not, it might now seem worthy, but I do wish we would have more open threads and I wish as a community we would once and for all resolve the technical issues with this site.

There have been countless posts on the issue, but there has never been a deffinitive one where we get together and fix these things.

I have had it up to here with the double and triple posts. Talk about pushing comments out of the limelight, something needs to be done about this. I think there needs to be a quota, people can spam this place with triple posts and there goes all the others.

I think some want us to be "readers", we have actually been called that by a mod recently. Sorry, you and I are not "readers" we are members of this community.

There are so many issues to discuss, I think there should be an open thread at least once a day. In a diary, you are bashed for any deviation. But not everything in this 24 hour news cycle is diary worthy. This is not the New Yorker or even American Thinker.

People like to air out issues from time to time, they like to comment and just chat. that is what makes a community imo. I agree diaries should be well thought out political arguments, but we also just need to comment and discuss what is on our minds.

This diary is an example, I did not want to bash 3.0 in a long drawn out argument. I just had an issue I wanted to get some help about. Also, I said anyone else with any issue or comment could say whatever they wanted. We don't want to emulate Daily Krud, but their open threads are some of the most popular. If we don't want to compare with libs, the same could be said of LGF.

yes he is a real liberal, but he let's Hannity call all the shots. Hannity decides the topic and who gets on the show.

What Letterman does is take cheaps shots at our president and all Republicans. He does not want a serious debate, he uses his power at CBS (not based on ratings, but on his contract) to besmirch and defame with little or no content.

Leno seems conservative in comparison simply because he is a bit more fair. This is true even though Leno clearly stated recently he is a liberal Democrat. What Letterman does is not politics, just cheap attacks that he knows he does not have to defend. He is way behind Leno in the ratings and often is behind Nightline as well.

I tend to always recommend 'open thread' blog entries if there hasn't been one recently (and thanks to the explosion of posts here, recently seems like less than a day for articles to get swept off the front page).

I've been somewhat distressed lately at some of the blog entries lately; the increase in quantity has caused an overall decline in quality. Some days it seems like that a third or more of the entries under 'Member Diaries' would be better off as entries in an open thread-- but there just aren't enough open threads lately.

However, it's probably too late to change this situation until after the election and things calm down a bit. Hopefully then some of the 3.0 issues can be resolved (caching may be saving the site, but caching is also the mortal enemy of dynamic content (which covers things like the late lamented 'New!' tag on comments)).

it only happens at this site. I think I am not alone in this, I hope others comment about this specific issue. And again, it is very odd that recent member comments do not update unless I close the browser and reopen.

I will try firefox, I tried it before. But if I am not alone in this, we as a community have a problem since most still use IE.

but everyone needs computer help :) as per my post down thread, unfortunately we have not found a simple fix. we have a work around, but still a flaw I do not experience with any other site. To figure this out once and for all would improve our beloved site and make a lot of people happy.

I'm using Firefox and I have no problems. I just closed all my browser windows and reopened to be sure and I was still logged in just fine.

If you are on IE you might give Firefox a shot at least to see if it has the same problem.

Does it happen at any other sites, or just RS? If just RS then I guess you probably need to talk to Neil.

it is not for me, but a few more reccos will keep this up a while longer. I like the idea of an open thread and also obviously some people need help navigating the new site. We are not bashing here, just trying to make it work.

I tried all of tamblin's ideas but still face the same problem. If I close the window and reopen, it says I need to log in again. If i click log in, then click on the RedState logo, I am magically logged in again. I guess it is a good trick to know, but certainly not a long term fix.

Please, moderators and grand poobahs, give us some info on this issue.

When I open my browser and link to RedState the first time, I get the header with "Recent Posts Log In Sign Up".

However, once I click on the log-in link, then the header immediately shifts to "Recent Posts My Diary Create New Diary Entry My Profile Log Out"

-even as the username and password boxes appear

At this point, I don't need to actually enter my username and password, I can go immediately to the home page and I can comment. Or I can click on "My Diary" and go straight to my diary - all without entering my username and password.

That is, the act of clicking on "log-in" acts to log me in, which means that RedState knows my identity at this point before I enter my identity info. Which means that there has got to be some cookie data on my computer.

Check it out for youreself

It's very strange...

And so long as the browser is open, I remain logged in to RedState (unless I specifically log out) - but I'm sure you've already observed that.

When I open my browser and link to RedState the first time, I get the header with “Recent Posts Log In Sign Up”.

However, once I click on the log-in link, then the header immediately shifts to “Recent Posts My Diary Create New Diary Entry My Profile Log Out”

-even as the username and password boxes appear

At this point, I don’t need to actually enter my username and password, I can go immediately to the home page and I can comment. Or I can click on “My Diary” and go straight to my diary – all without entering my username and password.

That is, the act of clicking on “log-in” acts to log me in, which means that RedState knows my identity at this point before I enter my identity info. Which means that there has got to be some cookie data on my computer.

Check it out for youreself
