I applaud the NRSC and Cornyn

Via NYTimes

Senator John Cornyn of Texas, the head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, said he would seek to recruit candidates who he thought could win in Democratic or swing states, even if it meant supporting candidates who might disagree with his own conservative views.

Mr. Cornyn said he was taking a page from SenatorCharles E. Schumer of New York, the last head of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, who led his party to big gains by embracing candidates who, for example, opposed abortion rights or gun control.

“If you think about it, Schumer has been very good at this; I complimented him this morning in the gym,” Mr. Cornyn said, adding, “Some conservatives would rather lose than be seen as compromising on what they regard as inviolable principles.”

Senator Lindsay Graham, Republican of South Carolina, said: “We are not losing blue states and shrinking as a party because we are not conservative enough. If we pursue a party that has no place for someone who agrees with me 70 percent of the time, that is based on an ideological purity test rather than a coalition test, then we are going to keep losing.”

Mr. Graham scoffed at the notion that the party was suffering because it was not conservative enough.

“Do you really believe that we lost 18-to-34-year-olds by 19 percent, or we lost Hispanic voters, because we are not conservative enough?” he said. “No. This is a ridiculous line of thought. The truth is we lost young people because our Republican brand is tainted.”

Both US Senators have great points we must listen to them.

First of all, is this entire post a cribbed news article?

I can’t tell by your formatting.

Second, citing Lindsay Graham to congratulate Cornyn is to damn the latter with far less than faint praise. Graham’s an example of a cancer serious problem we have within the GOP — glorified liberals who want our nation’s only semi-conservative party to become more liberal, and thus a permanent superminority.

Third, Cornyn’s an idiot. Instead of actually working to get Republicans elected or to recruit in states where we had no challengers in ’06 and ’08, the two-bit hack from Texas is spending all his money running ads in the Democrat primary against a guy he endorsed just last week (Specter) and is spending all his time trying to recruit a liberal Republican to run in the primary there against a conservative candidate who’s (1) already in the race, and (2) strong enough electorally that he forced the Specter switch in the first place!

Color me underwhelmed (to put it in a nice, family-safe way) with Cornyn, and reflexively against just about anything Lindsay Graham has to say about, well, anything.

I give this a -5...

And Cornyn is being a fool…Graham has always been an idiot…and if new recruits do agree with us 70% of the time that’s great…the only problem is they don’t…Specter had like a 40% ACU rating….that means he disagreed 60% of the time. We don’t need a clone of Specter to beat him. Didn’t work with McCain against a democrat…why would it work against Specter.

conform and celebrate diversity….or else!!!

It doesn't sound like they want to be the Democratic Lite party

They want to be the Democratic Party.

Maybe the party plank in 2012 can be: “We support everything.” People would just flock to us right? How can we be the Party of No if our plank is even simpler: “Yes!”? Or maybe it would be better if it’s: “¿si!”

oops I meant

“¡si!”

Unfortunately, the so-called "moderates" *disagree* with us 70% of the time.

So Lindsay’s argument is not particularly germane to the situation now, is it?

Again Applaud

the Senator from Texas for wanting us to win elections instead of crying like babies because some don’t get their way
