IL Burris (D) Senate Seat
In an interview with The Hill, Congressman Roskam promoted his Illinois GOP colleague, Rep. Mark Kirk, saying he would be “a very, very strong candidate.”
But Roskam also said he would consider the race but would defer if Kirk runs.
Democrats including Rep. Jan Schakowsky (Ill.) have already hinted that they might run, even if Burris seeks the seat in 2010.

The Public Policy Polling (D) did poll on race:
Portman 43%

KY Bunning (R)
Democratic Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo believes he would have the upper hand if he decides to run for the Senate seat now held by the Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Bunning.
Mongiardo told The Associated Press on Friday that if he enters the race he expects the 77-year-old Republican to bow out. Bunning eked out a win in 2004 when Mongiardo, then a littleknown state senator from Hazard, ran for the post.

markg8 Tuesday, January 20th at 11:49AM EST (link)Roskam didn’t say in that Hill article he’d defer to Kirk. This is what was written:
“Asked whether he would defer to Kirk, Roskam said: “I am a big Mark Kirk fan, let’s put it that way.””
That could mean anything,
Jim Bunning hasn’t showed up for work yet this session. What’s up with that?
Portman may have a polling lead as the top unknown among unknowns at this point but he quit his House seat to go to work for Bush. On trade no less. He has an uphill climb of Everest proportions in Ohio with that on his resume and Dems will have boulders to roll down on him.
Anybody know who's running for Governor of Alabama as an R?
RandomGuy (Diary) Tuesday, January 20th at 10:28PM EST (link)I think Rep. Mike Rodgers is a pretty good guy from what I know, but I don’t know about any of the state level people there.
Lets hope Bunning doesn’t run again. He’s a horrible campaigner and almost lost us what should be an easy seat twice. Geoff Davis or any one of several other people could easily keep the seat for us.
Portman has to be considered the frontrunner in Ohio, but it’ll be a tough race. I hope Kasich runs for Governor.
Kirk is better suited to a Senate run then for the Statehouse. Roskam should run for Governor.
