Polling in August showed Betsey Markey up by 6 points (questionable methodology).

Based on what I’m seeing around town and hearing, I think the dems have a real shot at picking up this seat.

The commercials are getting interesting to say the least. Musgrave goes for the throat by saying Markey may have acted illegally by giving government contract work to her family while working for Senator Ken Salazar.

Markey’s worried people will buy into it, even though the ethics committee found no wrongdoing. Government contract work is an issue here. Amendment 54 (of which I am a supporter) will eliminate much of the no-bid contracts, and will require names to be listed online for all future contract awards.

It does seem she has been targeted and the DCCC and envior. groups have poured tone of money into race and she has never been too favorable in district.

Even Rolling Stone magazine has targeted her. This is a GOP district although so what exactly is going on with her?

If the Presidential race is not > +3 Obama, then Porter probably loses to Bradley. Polling a few weeks back surprisingly had Hodes with only a single-digit lead over Horn. Since then Horn has had a surprisingly good debate performance that received very good reviews in the Nashua Telegraph (which is a left-leaning paper that has endorsed Obama.)

The DCCC has dumped a lot of money into this race. They had an annoying ad that started about 2 weeks ago with cartoon characters saying “Walberg for Wall Street” a few times during it. The high pitch voice really got under my skin. Having just moved here, I had no idea who Walberg even was until then (I’m not in his district), all I knew is I wanted to support him based on the irritation factor of this ad alone.

I’ve seen a new ad several times this week rips Walberg for his support of Social Security privatization. Of course the senior citizens make it sound like all the money would instantly disappear, calling it “gambling” if we did such a thing, with no other facts about such a measure. Here’s the ad it’s clearly playing the fear card towards seniors.

Walberg has swung back with a few good ads of his own, citing his opponents poor record of attendance, and support for MI’s crippling tax hikes. I don’t know of any polling or anything though on the district.

McCain pulled out of MI and you have to worry and wonder how this will impact both of these congressional races. Walberg barely survived last cycle so I am nervous

The Republicans are losing this seat the party is split and the GOP nominee is not well liked by Staten Island establishment. Looks like the last Republican representing NYC is gone and with it Mahoney will pick seat up for Dems
