Ugh, talk about holding your nose

Smith is campaigning on his ability to work with Obama. SUSA is the gold standard for state polls, so it is credible.

I guess Smith knows his state.

Not holding my nose

I will be proudly voting for Sen. Gordon Smith. Sure he’s a bit to the left of most of our caucus (he’s well left of me personally), but he’s to the right of most of the state of Oregon. And Merkley had me worried for a while (he might be a 4th tier challenger, but the state really favors that), however, I’d still like to see another poll to confirm. Senator Smith has been a good Republican in a tough spot. The Surge and us winning in Iraq has really helped dampened the enthusiasm to kick him out though.

This is very good news for Smith

The last few polls from this race were within the margin of error; I think the last Rasmussen poll even had Merkley up by a point or two.

Smith is running a smart campaign

Unlike Rep. Wu’s opponent who actively endorsed Obama and Merkely.

If Smith plays this right… and events surrounding gas prices continues, he can take his “I’m able to cross the aisle…” theme and extend it to McCain’s “I’m a Maverick” and hopefully put in Oregon in play or at least keep it competitive.

2008 is not 2006.

The Surge and us winning in Iraq has really helped dampened the enthusiasm to kick him out though.

I think that says it all. 2008 will not be 2006. There wont be an anti-GOP tidal wave.

Now, an anti-Pelosi tidal wave OTOH …
