Daniel Hannan on tyrants, human rights and hypocrisy.

Its true what Hannan said “Brussels is in no position to lecture Beijing about democracy” and neither does the Obama Admin. But both The EU and the Obama Admin needs Beijing, so I guess we shoulkd just overlook the hypocrisy. I’ll just note it alone with Mr Hannan and say that his point about the EU trying to set up a rival to the US GPS is also noted.
My fav line comes at the end, gotta love the Massachusetts reference

Senator DeMint, Rep Bachmann and AFPs tele-town hall

So I’m on Americans for Prosperity e-mail list, a list that I signed up and so I don’t mind getting them, unlike the Axelrods e-mails that I have received.
Anyway AFP are hosting an ‘informative and interactive tele-town hall call with Senator DeMint and Congresswoman Bachmann’

When: Thursday, August 20th – 8:00pm EST
Participant #: 1-888-356-3090
Pin #: 13255

Even though [they] have expanded out lines, only the first 3000 callers will be able to get on the call live. To guarantee that you are on the call please click here to RSVP with your phone number by 2pm EST on August 20th and we will call you when the town-hall is underway.

Well I’ve already RSVPed and had confirmation of my registration.
Heres the Question that I want to ask Senator DeMint

If Harry Reid and the Dems in the Senate, try to ram this healthcare bill through using “reconciliation” would you be willing to withdraw from “unanimous consent” and thus make the Dems read(among other things) every bill that comes before the Senate?

See Ed Morrissey @ HotAir.com: The irony of “reconciliation”

Now if you have any questions or concerns, please email info@afphq.org or call 202-349-5880.

Please note that I am in no way affiliated with AFP other than being an ordinary citizen(PRC holder in fact) who is on there mailing list.

Eloquent conservative Daniel Hannan on ObamaCare

Via Allahpundit and I would agree this “eloquent conservative” can speck for himself.

As for Allahpundit desire to see Hannan run for office here. I think that if you follow his blog over at Telegraph.co.uk, Mr Hannan explains “Why [he] wouldn’t emigrate to America”. This all came up in April

O.E.Y.C spread it around

So I’ve just been over at Instapundit and Glenn Reynolds has a reminder

Remember, protest is patriotic, and dissent is the highest for of patriotism!

And this link to Operation Embarrass Your Congressman apparently it’s only been up for about 3 days, looks like a fun place to visit. It sounds alot like Moes Strategy, to me, but anyway;

This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans, red states or blue states, conservatives or liberals… it’s about OUR DEMOCRACY, OUR FREEDOM, and OUR LIBERTY. We’ve had it with OUT OF TOUCH Representation!

Our elected officials have lost touch with the fact that they work for us. They are out of control, passing legislation they don’t read or even care to read! They’ve embarrassed America. They’ve embarrassed their constituents (us). They’ve made a mockery out of our Constitution and the legislative process. I, like millions of other tax-paying Americans am ashamed of our elected officials. So now, it’s time to really expose them (Congress) for the arrogant, ignorant, and insolent people they are. They’ve embarrassed us, so now it’s time to embarrass them! I don’t condone violence in any way. We simply want to use the truth, the facts, their own words in public appearances, and the power of the Internet to expose their arrogance, ignorance, and insolence! As the TRUTH about them spreads, it our prayer DEMOCRACY WILL PREVAIL! An informed people is vital to good government. We have commen sense on our side!

It’s even got a list of question you can ask your critter, I like this one

Are you for or against the current legislation in it’s present form? (allow answer) And how much of the bill have you PERSONALLY READ? (If they answer “not all” because it’s too big/long, ask…) By the fact that these legislative measures consist of hundreds or even thousands of pages, and many of your collegues admit they simply can’t read them all, it appears to the voting public that those writing the legislation purposely do so to “hide” or “cloak” many provisions of the bill that are highly unpopular with a great majority of Americans. If you don’t read every single page of the bill you vote on, how can you assure us these “hidden provisions” won’t be a part of the legislation?

It also has that helpful advise on how you can get out there and do something. My critter has decided that its better not to have any town hall and instead just wants to do a conference call.

Scared Dem Leadership Running Grassroots (Updated)

It appears that the Leadersip in Congress has decided on their August talking points, “the insuance companies are the immoral villains” in the healthcare debate even though they have the numbers to pass what ever they want? Given this why would …

Democratic leaders need to be coordinating media strategies and grassroots efforts with advocacy groups such as Health Care for America Now, Families USA and AARP, along with unions such as AFSCME and the Service Employees International Union[ACORN].

and isn’t the point of a grassroots campaign the fact that it comes from, well the grassroots. This sound more like astroturfing to me but I’m just one of those constituents that is angry at my congressman for his positions on the economic stimulus package, energy policy, health care and the bailouts of the auto and banking industries. In fact I got a letter from Mark Schauer MI-07 today thanking me for my support on H.R 2454, Cap and Tax, even thu I called and called saying NO NO NO, I guess he only hears what he wants to hear. He is also one of those congresscritters not holding town halls.

On the eve of the August recess, members are reporting meetings that have gone terribly awry, marked by angry, sign-carrying mobs and disruptive behavior. In at least one case, a congressman has stopped holding town hall events because the situation has spiraled so far out of control.

“I had felt they would be pointless,” Rep. Tim Bishop (D-N.Y.) told POLITICO, referring to his recent decision to suspend the events in his Long Island district. “There is no point in meeting with my constituents and [to] listen to them and have them listen to you if what is basically an unruly mob prevents you from having an intelligent conversation.”

I’m not sure how not holding town halls is going to fit into the “coordinated strategy” that the Dem Leadership has come up with

“Our message is simple. It is now being echoed by the White House,” said the memo sent to all Democratic members. “And it counters the Republican ‘government takeover’ message.”

“Remove the insurance companies from between you and your doctor— capping what they can force you to pay in out of pocket expenses, co-pays and deductibles, and giving you the peace of mind you will be covered for the care you need, if get sick, or if you change or lose your job.”

Maybe it going to be through in-person meetings

[Update Allahpundit has a good take on THAT 'in-person meeting']

Pelosi is the ‘villain’ here, me thinks.

[ Update Allahpundit has more here]

First up my mother died of cancer because of the waiting that an NHS brings with it and you will never confinence that a government run plan will do anything but ‘Cost to Much and Kill to Many’.

That said I was over at Drudge and this Reuters Article is in red, which lead to look for more details, this The Hill Article.

Dumbfounded.
I’ll just let House Speaker Nancy Pel’ied’osi (D-Calif.) speak for herself:

A day after formally delaying a vote on a healthcare bill and having to accept a further weakening of a public option to compete with private insurers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) lashed out at the health insurance industry and urged her members to do the same during the August recess.

“They are the villains in this,” Pelosi said of private insurers. “They have been part of the problem in a major way. They are doing everything in their power to stop a public option from happening. And the public has to know that. They can disguise their arguments any way they want, but the fact is that they don’t want the competition.”

“The more the public knows about what we’re doing, the more they support it, and especially if you’re talking about a public option, because that’s where the insurance companies are making their attack,” Pelosi said. “Our members have to go out there ready to take on a big special interest that has not made our country healthier, has made costs spiral upward, and for whom that is coming to an end.

“It’s almost immoral what they are doing,” added Pelosi, who stood outside her office long after her press conference ended to continue speaking to reporters, even as aides tried in vain to usher her inside. “Of course they’ve been immoral all along in how they have treated the people that they insure with preexisting conditions, you know, the litany of it all.”

“I am for the strongest possible public option, because, as the President said, that’s the way to keep the private sector honest, that’s how you have true competition, and achieve true universal, quality, accessible healthcare for all Americans,” Pelosi said.

Speaking of the Kennedy-Dodd bill and the current state of the Energy and Commerce agreement, Pelosi said the approach “is one that I think would be OK.”

“It’s not my preference,” she said. “My preference is a stronger bill. But it meets the test of having an effective public option.”

As I said I’m dumbfounded, has this woman not seen the latest polls, here, here and here

Now I was listening to Rush yesterday and he had this caller “Stacy from Parts Unknown, Georgia” and she said this

Caller…….Obama is a liar. There is no such thing as preexisting condition exclusions for life. So, sorry, no better, you can’t pull that one off on me.

RUSH: Wait a minute, translate that one for people in the audience. There’s no such thing as permanent exclusions for preexisting conditions for life. What does that mean?

CALLER: That is true. Anyone who signs onto a group policy, which is 90% of all insured, sign on under the HIPPA law from ’96. The maximum waiting period for a preexisting condition is one year. That one year is reduced by the number of months in the previous calendar year you have coverage. For example, if you work for a company and you have insurance there, you change jobs, go to a different company, every preexisting condition you have is covered with a certificate of credible coverage from your previous insurance company. So Obama can’t pull that one on me. I know he’s a liar.

Which would suggest to me that Nancy doesn’t have a clue what she is talking about, that ‘litany [and] all’. I’d strongly reccommend reading the whole transcript ,this woman knows what she is talking about. Here are just a couple of examples

The first thing I’d do is scrap mandates, both federal, state, and, local. Allow groups to select the health plans that they want and that their people need. I’d do tort reform, of course. But the mandates I think are the biggest thing. You have mandates that cover all kinds of things, you know –

RUSH: All right, explain to people what a mandate is.

CALLER: A mandate is where your state government — typically it’s state but there are federal mandates — come in and say you must cover mammograms for people 35 and older. Well, that means that no insurer, no group who is self-insured that uses an insurance company for claims processing, they must cover that procedure, under those guidelines, so everybody has to pay for it. You could be a construction company hiring a hundred guys, not one of them needs a mammogram but you still have to pay for that coverage.

……………………………………………………………………………………..

Oh, you know, and this nonsense he talks about, oh, well, you know, your insurance company is getting between and you your doctor? Bull crap. Because I tell you now if your insurance company says you don’t need an MRI for that sprained ankle, you know, wait a month if it’s still bad we’ll talk, you can still make your own appointment, go down there and pay for it yourself. When Obama’s stuff comes through you won’t have that option. You won’t have the option to say, well, I think I need it anyway so I’m going to pay it. Furthermore, insurance companies, the last thing we want to do is cut your claim. We want it to pass through our system without a human being ever looking at it, and pay as it should. That’s what we want.

As I said read it.
As for my congresscritter coming home and trying to sell the villian line that’s a bit difficult if he’s not going to hold any public meeting or live town halls. That said I will be trying to follow Moes Strategy even though he claims to have read it, but its not finished yet is it.

[ Update Durbin is at it to, see here

Saying the current medical system is "chronically ill," Durbin took aim at the insurance lobby, which he said will “pour it on” during August.

“There are people out there with a lot of money at stake in this debate,” Durbin said. “The health insurance companies are some of the most profitable businesses in America. By fighting change they're protecting their bottom line.”

At least Iknow how the Dems are going to try and turn the debate]

Tea Party vs ACORN

Just passing this along via Gateway Pundit

Taxpayer funded ACORN held a rally at Senator Claire “ACORN” McCaskill’s office in St. Louis on Thursday.
…………
They were allowed to protest in front of her office and block pedestrian traffic– unlike the Tea Party protesters from last week. And it looks like the media were able to make it to this rally.

They didn’t get flipped off either.

But, suddenly a Tea Party protest broke out across the street!
