Tim Scott is a Republican candidate for Congress in South Carolina’s 1st Congressional District. If you are unfamiliar with him, you can read more about him here, here, or here. Tim released an official statement regarding the NAACP voting today to condemn the Tea Party movement as racist.

“I understand that the NAACP, at its annual conference in Kansas City, will vote today on a resolution condemning the Tea Party movement as “racist”. I believe that the NAACP is making a grave mistake in stereotyping a diverse group of Americans who care deeply about their country and who contribute their time, energy and resources to make a difference.”

“As I campaign in South Carolina, I participate in numerous events sponsored by the Tea Party, 9/12, Patriot, and other like-minded groups, and I have had the opportunity to get to know many of the men and women who make up these energetic grassroots organizations. Americans need to know that the Tea Party is a color-blind movement that has principled differences with many of the leaders in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans. Their aim is to support the strongest candidates – regardless of color or background – who will fight to return our country to its Constitutional roots of limited government, fiscal responsibility, and free markets.”

I have been sold on Tim Scott since I first heard of his campaign, but this makes me like him that much more. If you wish to thank Tim for his efforts fighting for the Conservative cause and his statement on the NAACP’s race baiting… A donation to his campaign would probably be a good start.

According to Kentucky Libertarian Party Vice-Chairman Joshua Koch, Rand Paul is not quite Libertarian enough, and he is considering running a Libertarian Party candidate in November. The deadline for filing is August 10. In an interview, Koch claimed that Paul was not a Libertarian:

“He had gone from being an outsider candidate to a tea party candidate to an establishment candidate in the past nine months,” Koch said. “It’s a complete identity crisis. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Insisting Paul is no Libertarian, Koch called Paul and his Democratic opponent, Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, “faces of the same bad coin.”

[...]

The Paul campaign said it wasn’t concerned about the development. “If someone wants to split up Kentucky’s non-conservative vote more than it already is, that’s OK with me,” [Paul's campaign chairman, David] Adams said.

Conway had no immediate comment.

Koch said Paul’s views on a variety of subjects differ from the Libertarian Party, including his promised support for any measures to ban abortion and his opposition to same-sex marriage.

“Trying to impose a national standard for that would throw the whole system out of balance, and that’s definitely not Libertarian,” Koch said.

Rand Paul is currently ahead in the polls, with RCP showing Paul with a RCP average lead of +9.6. I can’t say with certainty that inserting a libertarian/conservative 3rd party candidate would be enough to tilt the race to the Democrat’s favor, but it is reasonable to see that as a possible outcome.

I initially had concerns about Rand Paul, but most of them were based on his father’s lunacy. In fact, it really wasn’t his father’s lunacy that bothers me the most, but the lunacy of his cult of followers. I know that not all Ronulans are as absurd in their devotion, but the ones that I have personally met have put me firmly in the anti-RonPaulRonPaulRonPaul camp.

Now it appears that there is a group of “libertarians” in Kentucky that are unhappy that they aren’t getting a candidate that is 99.99999999999% of what they want, so they feel that the logical response is to try to ensure that a Democrat gets the seat. Hopefully the Libertarian Party of Kentucky will come to their senses and realize how horrible of an idea this is.

(H/T Gateway Pundit)

According to CBS News, Faisal Shahzad was on a terrorist watch list from 1999 until recently. He was under surveillance because he entered the country with approximately $80,000 cash or cash instruments. Shortly after taking office, the Obama administration began shutting down some terrorist investigations began under Presidents Clinton and Bush.

Sources tell CBS News that would-be Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad appeared on a Department of Homeland Security travel lookout list – Traveler Enforcement Compliance System (TECS) – between 1999 and 2008 because he brought approximately $80,000 cash or cash instruments into the United States.

A New York Times article points to an incident in May of 2004 when Shahzad sold his condominium in Norwalk, Conn., sparking an investigation from the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF).

George LaMonica, a 35-year-old computer consultant, said he bought his two-bedroom condominium in Norwalk, Conn., from Mr. Shahzad for $261,000 in May 2004. A few weeks after he moved in, Mr. LaMonica said, investigators from the national Joint Terrorism Task Force [JTTF] interviewed him, asking for details of the transaction and for information about Mr. Shahzad. It struck Mr. LaMonica as unusual, but he said detectives told him they were simply “checking everything out.”

I am not naive enough to believe that terrorism can be stopped completely, but the acts of the Obama administration are making us much less safe. If this administration continues to not take the threat of terrorism seriously, it will only be a matter of time before there is a successful attack on American soil.

In a related note, ABC News is reporting that Faisal SHahzad had contact with American born Taliban cleric Anwar Alwaki.

But according to these sources, Shahzad also had a web of jihadist contacts that included big names tied to terror attacks in the U.S. and abroad, including the figure who has emerged as a central figure in many recent domestic terror attempts – radical American-born Muslim cleric Anwar Awlaki.

The Obama White House did not allow the press to cover the president’s signing of the executive order created to win Rep. Bart Stupak’s vote for Obamacare. At the daily briefing, reporters wanted to know why no press photographer or reporter was allowed in. Press secretary Robert Gibbs told them they should be happy with a picture from the White House photographer, Pete Souza — a photo produced and selected by the White House. It will be a “nice picture,” Gibbs assured reporters.

Good ‘ol Bobby Gibbs tried his best to explain to the press <del>corpse</del> corps why the Executive order was needed, and why they weren’t allowed to witness it. Don’t forget this is the most transparent administration ever!!11!!one!1!!

(video here. I tried to embed, but for some reason it wouldn’t. It embedded fine on my site, don’t know what went wrong.)

Why were they grilling Gibbs on the necessity of the Executive Order? Remember back to September of last year when Obama addressed a joint session of Congress. Yeah, that speech when Joe Wilson loudly (and truthfully) yelled “you lie”. Listen toward the end of this clip, and listen to him vehemently deny that Obamacare covers abortion.

So what was the purpose of an Executive Order? It appears that Obama signed an order today that admitted he lied to the country in September. You would think that Obama could find a Press Secretary that could lie on a similar level as him and the rest of his staff.

Republican Congressman Darrell Issa(CA-49) wants the White House to answer claims Joe Sestak has made. Rep. Joe Sestak(D-PA) claimed in a February radio interview that the White House offered him a federal job if he dropped out of the Pennsylvania Senate race.

“I’m not going to say who or how and what was offered,” Sestak said in an interview. “I don’t feel it’s appropriate to go beyond what I said,” because the conversation was confidential.

Sestak, 58, a retired Navy admiral, has said that some Pennsylvania Democratic leaders have tried to entice him to drop his campaign with promises of support for other offices in the future. He also has said that Sen. Robert Menendez of New Jersey, chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, urged him to run when Specter was still a Republican, then tried to force him out after Specter switched parties.

[...]

“He asked me the question, and I had to answer it honestly,” Sestak said of his exchange with Kane. Sestak said he had declined the job offer immediately and added, “The person said, ‘I knew you’d say that.’ ”

It’s no secret that leading Democrats are backing Specter, a five-term incumbent who switched from the GOP last spring, soon after providing the critical vote for President Obama’s $787 billion stimulus program.

Jake Sherman of Politico reported that Rep. Issa has sent a letter to the White House seeking answers.

But in a letter to White House general counsel Robert Bauer Wednesday, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) said that, if Sestak’s allegation is true, administration officials may have violated a federal statute which makes it a crime for a government employee to use his authority “for the purpose of interfering with, or affecting, the nomination or the election of any candidate” for certain offices, including Senate seats.

“While the White House may think this is politics as usual, what is spectacularly unusual is when a candidate — a U.S. congressman no less — freely acknowledges such a proposal,” Issa wrote. “Almost always candidates keep quiet about such deals, and for good reason — they are against the law.”

According to CBS News Rep. Issa is standing firm on his April 5 deadline for the White House to respond. If he receives no response, he will call for a Special Prosecutor.

Issa said that if he doesn’t receive “satisfactory answers” to his letter by its April 5th deadline, “then the next step would be to call for a special prosecutor to investigate.”

He said it is now “a lot easier” for the White House to respond because Gibbs “has the raw information that we asked for.” Asked if he expected his call for a special prosecutor to be answered, Issa said, “I’m a practicing Christian, I have always believed in the redemption of souls.” He said that if the issue generates enough publicity Democrats may feel forced to appoint a prosecutor out of “the fear of the voters.”

I commend Rep. Issa for having the courage to stand up to the Obama political machine. I have my doubts that he will be successful, but this administration needs to be exposed for it’s blatant thugery. I will have my popcorn ready, as this could be fun to watch.

Today, President Obama signed the Healthcare Bill into law. Anyone who hasn’t been living under a rock for the past year is well aware of the backroom deals, bribery, arm twisting, and deception that went into finding enough votes to pass the bill. Final passage of the bill came on the heels of a promise of an Executive Order by President Obama to restrict abortion coverage.

Stupak, who led Democratic lawmakers opposed to the Senate bill, made an announcement of a deal Sunday afternoon, surrounded by a handful of Democratic lawmakers who had held out their “yes” votes in exchange for a guarantee of no public funding for abortion.

The arrangement appeared to cement passage of the massive insurance overhaul as House lawmakers later approved the rules for debate in a 224-206 vote, moving the House one step closer to passage.

Well, the signing day came and went without the signing of the Executive Order.

President Obama signed the Senate health care bill into law Tuesday. He did not sign the executive order on abortion negotiated with Michigan Democratic Congressman Bart Stupak in an 11th-hour arrangement that may well have saved the entire health care reform effort.
A White House official told Fox, Obama will not sign the Executive Order Tuesday and has set no specific date to do so. Stupak predicted Obama would sign the order later this week. The White House said only that Obama would sign the order “soon.”

Stupak and the other “pro-life democrats” spent the last year of the healthcare debate acting like they were standing on Pro-Life principles. Now they have caved to an Executive Order that may or may not be signed, and if it is ever signed will only last as long as the President wishes for it to. Mr. Stupak, you and your baby-killing colleages in the Democrat Party are a disgrace. I have absolutely no doubt that there is no such thing as a pro-life Democrat.

I have heard much ado today about NY-23 being won by a democrat for the first time since the “Civil War”. Here is Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi parroting this talking point.

CNN got into the game on it’s website saying:

National Democrats, smarting over gubernatorial losses in New Jersey and Virginia, seized on the win, with Democratic National Committee Chairman Tim Kaine dubbing it “perhaps the most consequential race of the night.”

“This race turned out to be the worst of all possible worlds for Republicans as not only did the Democrat, Bill Owens, win a seat that Democrats have not held in more than 100 years, but what occurred in New York has exposed a war within the Republican Party that will not soon end,” said Kaine.

This seems as if it would be a big blow to the Republican party to forfiet a seat that it has held since the Civil War. Problem is according to Wikipedia the seat was last held by Democrats from January 3, 1979 up until January 3, 1993. I was only 17 years old in 1992. Sure I was a snot-nosed little punk that thought he owned the world, but I sure don’t remember a “civil war” going on in our country. I know there are some older Red State members here who have a better grasp of history than I do, so maybe one of you could enlighten me as to the “civil war” that happened around 1992 A.D. that I seemed to have missed.
