CRU emails were leaked before they were hacked

Scope (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 9:06AM EST (link)

Apparently a reporter at the BBC received some of the emails more than a month before this story broke, but, decided to do nothing about it.

That would be "Mann-made Global Warming"

How pathetic is it that the HSM (High School Media) is directing more resources to the Tiger Woods story than to Climategate.

Mucho cincos as always, Toby!

I LOVE the “Mann-made” moniker. Is that your invention? Can I use it if I have the chance in a future cartoon?

I would be honored. And while I did come up with it myself,

it seems so obvious that surely someone else, somewhere has thought of it.

Kinda like the time I beat $pecialist to “Bagdad Bob Gibbs” here on RedState. I just happened to post it before he came up with it independently.

I've seen Mark Steyn use it

Little faith left in our institutions

nateleyswhore Monday, November 30th at 12:54PM EST (link)

The media? Check.
The Federal Government? Check
Big Business? Check
Entertainment? Check
Education? Check
Science?????? Sadly, check on that too

I think all of these institutions have found that by colluding together they become even more untouchable and powerful and entrenched. They go to the same parties, they network, they feast at will from the public treasury. The freedom of the individual is in great peril.

It’s very near the end of the academic session. Exams start soon, then everybody goes home for Christmas, er, I mean Winter Break. At PSU students will return on Jan 10 with classes resuming Jan 11. Not sure about the other Universities, but for now I’m just tracking my alma mater. That’s when we hit with a full frontal PR assault.

I was going to get it researched and posted this week, but I will hold off until then. The general outline is to press the University to undertake an investigation of Mann the same way we pressured for an investigation of that tenured falisifier who said he was an Indian but isn’t really. None of the Universities where these guys have jobs can afford the bad press for long. They will have to start investigations, even if only for the purposes of whitewashing their professors’s records. Once the investigation starts, we then keep the pressure on to make them real and clean.

'Leaked emails won't harm UN climate body, says chairman'

Steve Maley (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 10:14AM EST (link)

H/T Drudge

Pachauri was responding to one email from 2004 in which Professor Phil Jones, the head of the climatic research unit at UEA, said of two papers he regarded as flawed: “I can’t see either … being in the next Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report. Kevin [Trenberth] and I will keep them out somehow – even if we have to redefine what the peer-review literature is!”

Pachauri said it was not clear whether the wording of the emails reflected the scientists’ intended actions, but said: “I really think people should be discreet … in this day and age anything you write, even privately, could become public and to put anything down in writing is, to say the least, indiscreet … It is another matter to talk about this to your friends on the telephone or person to person but to put it down in writing was indiscreet. If someone was to say something like this in an IPCC authors’ meeting then there are others who would chew him up.”

In other words, do what you need to do, but for God’s sake, don’t be stupid enough to put it in an email.

I think that's part of that AGW vernacular...

mschmitt (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 10:22AM EST (link)

… that we can’t hope to understand. See, “don’t write it down” actually means “thoroughly document your methods for a fair, but vigorous, peer review process”, just like “hide the decline” actually means “refuse to disclose any data which gives an indication that the hypothesis may be incorrect.”

Oh, wait… I think I need to consult my AGW-english translator.

Per The Dog Ate My Tree RIng Data–Mark Steyn

In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”

This is an egregious breech of accepted scientific practice/provenance.
“We’d get an F in Freshman lab practices if we tried to pull something like this, but you can still trust our results.”

Scope (Diary) Monday, November 30th at 8:34PM EST (link)

according to inquiries from American Thinker to his American Solutions spokesperson, he is following the story closely, and, may have a statement as early as next week. So Newt, we have NY23, and, now Climategate. Are you really sure that you still have sights on the 2012 election? I think we are seeing another implosion of another possible candidate, just as Huckabee.
