Hard to believe this one. According to this story in the Politico, someone’s approached Joe Scarborough’s about running for president, spurred on by The One’s drop in the polls. Who’s kidding whom here? I had to laugh when I got to the bottom of the story and it said that his show on MSNBC gave him a great platform because he had 500,000 viewers. It goes without saying that 500k viewers of MSNBC are likely to be a half million left-wing cranks and more importantly, in this media soaked nation of about 300,000,000 people, a half million is a rounding error.
To me even more absurd are some of the other names mentioned in this story. General Petraeus, touted by Bob Dole? Bob Dole? Please. IN governor Mitch Daniels? Listen, he’s been an excellent fiscal shepherd in this climate but the man has all the charisma of a second-tier undertaker. Given that The One will only have charisma to run on in ’12, sending Mitch out as a presidential candidate would be like sending Little Lord Fauntleroy to a knife fight. Absurdly, the story also mentions Dick Cheney. Tough guy. Love his plain speaking. Also no chance. Mitt Romney? Is he still around? The ’12 Republicant candidate will have to be someone mighty special to beat The One who will once again be backed by the legacy media, the unions and the ACORN thugs. One of the few with any real chance is the one the story mentions only in passing– Sarah Palin.

You were doing great until your last sentence
civil truth (Diary) Friday, September 4th at 1:26PM EST (link)…where you derailed the logical train your were running.
The point is 1) we don’t have a clue what the political climate will be like in 2012 when we seriously start the primary system. That in turn will determine the relative strengths and weakenss of the various primary candidates.
And in particular, we have absolutely no idea which IF ANY of the 2008 players will be viable in 2012 or whether someone else will emerge as the best choice. To speculate at this point is strictly for amusement purposes.
In other words, the silliness is thatanyone is discussing 2012 at this point in time – not that someone’s pet candidate got ignored.
2) If we look at 2012 at the expense of focusing on 2010, we’re shooting ourselves in the head. If we don’t substantially reverse the socialist/communist revolution underway by substantially reducing the governing party’s majorities (or in the best scenario, taking back the House), the 2012 Presidential race will be a charade – especially after redistricting.
Which mean gaining state control too so that we don’t get gerrymandered into irrelevancy.
The greatest evil…is conceived and ordered (moved, seconded, carried, and minuted) in clean, carpeted, warmed, and well-lighted offices, by quiet men with white collars and cut fingernails and smooth-shaven cheeks who do not need to raise their voice. Hence, naturally enough, my symbol for Hell is something like the bureaucracy of a police state or the offices of a thoroughly nasty business concern. -C.S. Lewis

Regaining Control of Both the House and the Senate and Not The White House
Ausonius (Diary) Friday, September 4th at 1:52PM EST (link)preferably in 2010, but more realistically in 2012 must be the goal. In one sense the White House can be tolerated in the oppositions hands.
Without decent conservative (and charismatic?) Republican presidential candidates, NObama could therefore be re-elected in 2012, but that might not matter too much, on the theory that Americans have preferred divided government in past History, and that Big Brobama will by those results be effectively neutered. I call this the George-Will Scenario.
To be sure, the name “Barry One-Term Obama” is preferable to allowing him two terms!
And the danger in keeping him for two terms: what would be his reaction to another major terrorist attack? Lob a few missiles into some mountains and proclaim “Mission Accomplished, NObama Style” ? We know how well that worked for Billy Jeff Clinton.
SO… while the George-Will Scenario might seem to be an acceptable reality, in the age of international terrorism it is too dangerous. We must find a candidate who can counter Big Brobama’s “charisma.”
Even with certain disasters at his feet and low approval ratings, he could still pull off a win against somebody not known or appealing: the electorate is not always so logical.
