The double standard — threaten Bush, no prob. Threaten The One, go to jail.

In hindsight it seems like the tinfoil left spent the entire Bush presidency threatening the man with all manner of grisly death, but why was no one ever prosecuted or jailed for doing it? Check out some of these crackpots here (caution, it’s some pretty revolting stuff). As pointed out in the story, just a couple of weeks ago a nitwit showed up at a townhall meeting with a death threat on a sign and was promptly turned over to the Secret Service. What’s wrong with this picture? Simple: the left doesn’t care when they’re the ones doing the threatening because without ad hominem attacks, they got nothin’.

There's a big difference between the two

One is an expression of free speech like we all have the right to do

The other is a racially-motivated act of threatened terrorism.

It’s not like there is any double standard or anything.

yep...

nobody was arrested for political views under the bush administration… Republicans would never suppress free speech…

http://www.firstamendmentcenter.org/news.aspx?id=14041 I mean obviously Republicans would never arrest people for wearing a t-shirt.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/03/us/03cheney.html And they would never have someone arrested calling something reprehensible.

http://www.sptimes.com/2002/11/03/TampaBay/7_protesters_arrested.shtml And obviously nobody would ever be denied from a republican event because of the buttons they were wearing when said people have tickets to said event

Or to put it another way… Both sides are very very guilty of suppressing free speech on ocation… I wont say it has been pervasive, but at the same time it happens more often than I would like.

I understand your point but I was making a different one

Calling Bush, or The One a @#($* is fine. Let ‘er rip as far as I’m concerned. But threatening physical harm is against the law pretty much everywhere and not just against the president. Here in the Hoosier Heartland if you threaten someone with physical harm you’re committing a class D felony. But, like Clinocchio’s perjury, you’re not likely to be held to account for it.

Class D *misdemeanor*, not felony.

Protesters might (probably) have gotten away with making threats against President Bush, but at the same time they were being arrested for far less (see my post above).

I will agree though it does seem odd that such threats were effectively ignored under Bush, but are being pursued under Obama…. the best explanation I can come up with is the secret service works for the president, and therefore maybe Bush decided to ignore the idiot protesters (or alternatively Obama is having these cases pursued).

Or maybe ...

Or maybe The One recognizes, as a former idiot protester, how dangerous idiot protesters are and is taking a reasonable precaution. :-)
