Few people understand that term today, but it has been used repeatedly to define who Barack Obama's mother and maternal grandfather were.

They were clearly fellow travelers -- who put him into contact with his childhood mentor Frank Marshall Davis. And so his seeking out of Socialist and Communist professors and friends in college was no act of rebellion, but a reaffirmation of his upbringing.

What scares me is that only now is the GOP thinking about these things.

Where were the party leaders when they had a majority and could've planned ahead? They could've stopped a lot of what Democrats are doing now if they had just had some foresight, or were willing to lose a few squishy left ("Or am I right this month? I can't decide.") voters.

Pandering to the communist press in hopes of a few scraps didn't get them very far, did it?

I took a book about Ronald Reagan home from the library for my daughter, because I wanted her to learn about this great President. I was outraged to find out it was a bunch of left-wing propaganda. While Reagan's early life was treated respectfully, the only accomplishment mentioned of his Presidency was an arms-control agreement. No mention was made of the collapse of the Soviet Union, but such nonsense as "he didn't help the poor.

that publish good history books that do things like what you wrote:
"once told the story of a people who tamed the wilderness, rolling across a vast continent, and forming the greatest nation, dedicated to human freedom, that the world has ever known"

I know four homeschool curriculums that do what you said. The first two published their own history books and they really do respect the free market and make it clear our America is blessed from following good principles. The third reprinted books from the 50s. The fourth one scanned original history books like original writings like A Smith and G Washington. My only problem is the book from the 50s republished is that it misrepresented the American Indians something horribly. The only other thing is I wish they would teach that communist people get brainwashed.

Just a disclaimer that I have used scholarship funds, bought at a discount they offered us or buy used so I can't really talk about supporting them since it's more like the other way around they help us but that is one thing to do is to support the good publishers.

well before the '60s, David. I agree with you that many of today's Ph. Ds got that degree while staying in school to avoid the draft and just stayed in school as instructors and professors, but in most cases it was the school that made them into a radical. By the '30s every elite school and most of the state schools had a significant avowed communist element among both the professors and students, many going so far as to have open communist clubs or even CPUSA on campus. Many of the radical student leaders of that era went on to high elected and appointed office both here and in GB and I firmly believe that the only reason that, unlike Oxford, we haven't had some bright young lad from Hahvud or Yale show up on the Kremlin Balcony is that we never caught our Kim Philby.

As I recounted in my diary/review regarding the book "Spies" a couple of weeks ago, the NKVD/KGB didn't have any trouble recruiting spies in the US, the open communists and fellow travellers came to them and by the '30s the Soviets had thoroughly penetrated academia, government, entertainment/media, and many vital professions and industries. Rosenberg was no liberal arts type, he was an engineer and he very successfully recruited other engineers into his atomic spying ring.

The foolish thing that has happened is that we have acted as if they all went away after the "Red Scare" of the '50s and we have done away with loyalty oaths and such like. We're back where we were in FDR's administration where we have a government populated with open communists and various other varieties of anti-Americans penetrate the government, media/entertainment, and many vital professions and industries. If we ever get control of the government again, re-instituting HUAC should be one of the first items of business. Now all you have to do is say you're going to "reform" or "change" the government in order to overthrow the government and, no mistake about it, it is Comrade Obama's intention to overthrow the government of the US as we know it.

I remember when I was in high school, and my father read through my history book and was irritated at how certain events were misrepresented. I am 34, so this was only 18-20 years ago. Last year while visiting my niece (who is 15), I looked through her history book, and couldn't believe some of the things I saw. I only scanned it for about 5 minutes, but it was disgusting. I shudder to imagine what high school history classes will be like for my kids. I hope my heart will remain healthy enough to handle it. If Obamacare passes, I may have to wait 2 years to be treated for a heart attack...
