I went to do early voting this morning. I figured 10:30AM on a Thursday should be a safe time to avoid the crowds.
Well when I got there, there were 30 people in line ahead of me, and when I finally got to the front of the line, there were 50 people behind me. This is Brevard County, Florida, a VERY RED county. Out of the 100 or so people I saw voting today, I was maybe the third or fourth youngest. In all, I counted less than 10 (and I’m being generous) people in line that would fit the Obama profile.
I probably waited 30 minutes to vote, and no one got out of line the whole time. Everyone that got in the line waited it out and voted.
Yes, it is just one story, and not statistically significant. But it also flies in the face of the memes of GOP voters not being enthusiastic, and that young and black voters will be overwhelming the early voting.

Good news!
DrJeff Thursday, October 23rd at 12:08PM EST (link)I have read a lot of reports just like yours. I think our base is fired up, and a lot of Blue Dog/Reagan Dems are, too. All of us are voting to save our nation from socialism. I think the polls are wrong because they are making bad assumptions about the Rep. turnout and about the number of Dems who are going to cross over, not to mention that they are actually trying to suppress our turnout with these bogus results. So far, I think they are failing. We just need to show up and vote, and we’ll win this thing!
I like this news!!!
Lysander the Spartan (Diary) Thursday, October 23rd at 12:23PM EST (link)I know McCain will win Florida. The Republican grass roots effort is very strong in that state. we all need to make sure that everyone who is legally eligible to vote does so. we need to motivate them all. I wonder if the story is the same in PA???

Yep, the base is fired up
ss Thursday, October 23rd at 12:25PM EST (link)I spent an hour in line yesterday in my decidedly red county in my decidedly red state. I live in a town of about 20,000 people. The Senate race is a lock, as is the Rep. race. There are no interesting or competitive down-ballot races.
And yet, they tell me that 800 or so people are showing up every day during the 10 days of early voting. That’s pretty much a record, according to one poll worker. (While 800 may not sound like a lot, it’s one of three polling places in the county and the state tends to vote about 30% in early voting).
Also of interest: of the signs outside the polling place (the appropriate distance, naturally) not so much as an Obama sign, but plenty of McCain/Palin stickers on cars in the parking lot.
Here you go People
PaRep (Diary) Thursday, October 23rd at 12:27PM EST (link)“No increase in first time voters over 04. That is big big news.”
That is big. It puts the lie to that intense hype about Obama’s having stirred the public to such a frenzy, blah-blah, blah-blah…
Last election AARP
IndependentfrMI (Diary) Thursday, October 23rd at 1:25PM EST (link)Last election cycle AARP ran a story here in MI saying if you don’t know don’t vote and that is exactly what a lot of the members did.
This year the members of AARP know the candidates and are voting!
Thanks, Dave, for the anecdote!
Lwyrett (Diary) Thursday, October 23rd at 2:59PM EST (link)Great news! Lifts up my spirts!
I agree with DrJeff ~ Obama’s unguarded moment ~ which very may will be the Ultimate Gaffe ~ “spread the wealth” ~ is Socialism 101 ~ and Americans just do not want to go that way.
