Erick, this one is for you. And I dare you to promote it.
You have fallen into the soft, easy trap of negativity. You have convinced yourself that disaster looms, and we must scramble to claw ourselves into a position to protect our last vestige of self determination.
Guess what, Markos Moulitsas agrees with you. And he has you exactly where he wants you.
This is from his post
called “Crush Their Spirits”. Looks like they have already succeeded.
I’ve been making the case the last couple of weeks that we can’t just focus on winning in November, but that we have an imperative to take advantage of a historic opportunity to break the conservative movement’s backs and crush their spirits. In the White House, that means getting Obama a broad popular and geographic mandate for change. In the House, that means annihilating the Republican caucus and working toward a 100-seat Democratic majority. In the Senate it means getting to a 60-seat filibuster proof majority.
Republicans will claim that McCain wasn’t one of them, hence rationalizing away their loss. But if we decimate their ranks, including their conservative icons, it’ll make it harder for them to justify their spin. Remember, we want them broken, their ranks thinned, their treasury in heavy debt, their morale in the gutter, void of any leadership, discredited in the eyes of the public.
Hence our need this year to take advantage of this perfect Democratic storm to not just win, but to utterly wipe the board clear of as many Republicans as we can catch in this wave.
A key component of this effort is to destroy their most beloved leaders. And in that sense, our Orange to Blue fundraising list targets some of the conservative movement’s top leaders. Don’t take my word for it, take that of conservative blogger/operative Patrick Ruffini, freaking out about the tsunami about to hit:
And while we all to some extent will continue to fixate on the Presidential race, we need to understand the very real consequences if the Senate is irredeemably lost, and if our bench in the House is wiped out. You may not know it, but conservative icons like John Shadegg (AZ-3) and Tom McClintock (CA-4) could lose.
Both AZ-03 and CA-04 are on our target list, with Bob Lord focused on taking out Shadegg, and Charlie Brown fighting McClintock.
There is a sudden realization on the right that they are on the precipice of losing not just their majorities, but some of their most cherished voices. We have been blessed with an opportunity to help that process along.
**They’re already expecting to lose**. You want to see them truly crushed, you need to help (among so many others) Lord and Brown win their races.
Leave everything on the road.
(Bolding mine)
I’ve said it before, and I will repeat it. We are either a socialist nation or we aren’t. If we are, it doesn’t matter if we go down swinging or not, we were going to lose anyway.
But if we aren’t, and this nation still remains center-right, with a rough parity between the parties, then the doomsday scenarios that are being projected around here are asinine. The ONLY way they will win, is if we allow ourselves to be demoralized and not trust the voters to do what they have done every election since 1980. Vote for the center-right candidate.
If on November 4th, the Democrats really do turn out +14 over the Republicans (which the polls assume), then we only have our own demoralizing attitudes to blame. However, Markos’s predictive powers have never been all that great, so I respectfully suggest that people quit feeding into it.
Update: Screw the respect, I suggest you get just as pissed as I am, AND FIGHT THEM FOR THE SOUL OF OUR COUNTRY

AceInTX (Diary) Wednesday, October 15th at 10:36AM EST (link)and for what it’s worth….it’s not limited to “around here”…It’s coming from our so called leaders at the RNC, NRSC, NRCC, and the McCain Campaign….
For what it’s worth…it’s self fulfilling prophesy as far as I’m concerned…we are heading toward defeat…and it has nothing to do with Eric or Red State…it has everything to do with the leaders the party has foisted on us and tasked with winning…
Thy started out with the assumption that thius is a losing year for Republicans…and they’ve used it as an excuse to not do a damn thing to change that dynamic…I, Erick and those like us are gloomy because we’ve screamed at Republicans to fight since before the 2006 elections…and they just won’t listen!
I don't believe the polls
Charles Lee (Diary) Wednesday, October 15th at 10:58AM EST (link)I think they mist the working men and women who are going to come out on Nov.4Th and turn the media on it ears wondering what just happened.

Erick Erickson (Diary) Wednesday, October 15th at 11:02AM EST (link)I said the other day I was only promoting stuff about what people are doing on the ground to help the candidates.
We’ll disagree that I have crossed the line between realistic assessment and sky is falling.
I’ve provided lists of candidates who have a chance to beat the Democrats, etc.
I’m encouraging diary promotion for what you guys are doing to provide everyone else an incentive to get out there.
But thus far no one is really writing about what they are doing to help our side. They’re just bitching.

This kind of stuff just shows
PSDA (Diary) Wednesday, October 15th at 11:36AM EST (link)This kind of stuff just shows how the Kos-set regards American politics: as some kind of brawl where losers get stomped to death and winners crow over their dead bodies. It’s just juvenile.
People need to get out and do what they can in the current elections, but the day after the election, nobody gets dragged to the scaffold in our political system. The fight goes on.
Losses can later be turned in victories, and victories in hindsight can turn out to be losses, but in either case, the battle-lines remain pretty much the same. When one leader goes down, another steps up, and that’s been the cyclical nature of things for generations now.

No kidding. Jeez. How many Republicans have been saying all year long “Republicans will lose seats in the House and the Senate,” how many? Darn near all of them. And they fall back on the whole “we got to be realistic.” Fine. But being realistic does nothing for victory without a plan for victory. So darn committed to being realistic, why bother playing the game? That’s your gameplan, “We’re gonna lose, let’s just try to cut our losses.” Really?
“But, but! The deck is stacked against us, the fundamentals favor the Dems, blah, blah, blah.” Name an election where ANY major media has ever suggested that the Republicans were favored or had the advantage? Doesn’t happen. Hasn’t happened. Won’t happen. And yet, somehow the Republicans win. “This year, this year is different!!” Because the same people who have been planning on picking over the corpse of the Republican Party every two years for last 30 years say so? Because the yuth vote, the minority vote?
Come on. Being realistic also means no loss is certain until the clock stops. Will anyone stand up and say “We can win, we like our gameplan, we like our chances, we think we match up well,” anyone?
They're vicious.
KBDay (Diary) Wednesday, October 15th at 2:08PM EST (link)There’s a concerted attack, and it’s well-planned. Sad thing is the American people will pay the price and most won’t even know it.
I’ve focused on Florida candidates at Covering Florida and the blog comes up tops in searches.
For what it’s worth, I don’t trust these polls. Teflon Barry’s got too many tech companies on his side.
Also, donate to these candidates even if they’re not in your district. That’s so important.
Keep up the good fight. And do what I do–just keep on plugging away. Truth will out.
Meanwhile our party does need more effective marketing, a new presentation for our brand and our volunteer support.
I think we should have a summit–Soros might be distasteful to us, but he certainly had an effect after his summit. Difference is we all aren’t millionaires and billionaires!
