Mourning Joe: What’s Wrong With This Picture?

I’ve never had much to say about MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough, as I’ve never found him particularly noteworthy. But the links I just found are as annoying, as they are telling. He’s written a book on the way forward for Conservatives: The Last Best Hope.

Isn’t it at least a little bizarre that the grand book party for said book would be held at the home of Margaret (so liberal you can’t take her seriously) Carlson? And that the guest list (with video) included such notable conservatives as - Andrea Mitchell, Dana Milbank, Chris Matthews, Ana Marie Cox, Norah O’Donnell, Frank Foer, Evan (Obama is god) Thomas, Michael Isikoff and Bill Press?

I mean, really. But it gets much worse. Apparently Mourning Joe doesn’t need week after week on the NY Times Bestseller List like Levin’s Liberty and Tyranny to get some pub. He’s already been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Newsweak, The New York Post and who knows where else. Man, that book must be jumping off the shelves. And what, at least in part, is Scarborough’s message? Well, he has some good points on spending and such, but….

After he’s done bashing Bush for Iraq, the conservative from the Olbermann network thinks the Right is too harsh – off the charts. And if you read around the links, of course he has some negative things to say about Right-side talk radio, too. That’s especially interesting given how well Levin’s book is doing among conservatives, wouldn’t you say?

And naturally he defends Colin Powell and attacks the Right for some of its Sotomayor rhetoric.

Evangelicals and Hispanics are going to respond to whoever is leading the movement, and the GOP has to prove it’s not run by harsh ideologues with a narrow agenda. If we want to exclude people who think like Colin Powell, we will continue losing voters.

What does the future Republican Party look like?

It looks a lot like the conservative movement that’s outlined in this book.

I’m not going to go on about him, as frankly, I’d probably go over the top right now. The fact is, this conservative MSNBC host, who all too often comes across as clownish to be good for Conservatism in my view, is joining in the movement – enabled by his mainstream media pals – to run Conservatism and conservatives down for personal gain. But I will say this.

When someone aligns himself with something only to undermine it with the help of the opposition, useful idiot is the commonly accepted term. But I can’t really call Scarborough that, as I’ve never found him to be that useful for anything serious at all.

In his case, maybe one has to be an MSNBC liberal to appreciate how that actually works.

Big Tent

Will be the theme that Republicans should be more
“incluuusive.” Funded by George Soros no
doubt to keep Dems in power.

Good luck with that book... NOT

I have no intention on buying or reading his book. I listen to him occasionally just to reafirm to myself why I am a true conservative. He falls for that “grouping” of Americans the way the Democrats do. He is another one willing to give up on the principals to get the voter.. and Bill Press? Of all the people you listed this guy can get my blood boiling like no other.. He is on the radio here in MI in the A:M, and is as leftist as Obama, perhaps more so.. The words that come out of this guys mouth are disgusting.

You do realize...

that this book is advertised on Redstate.com? The ad is at the top of my page right now.

Joe likes his job

Joe shown over the years a tendancy to want to not go to far to the right less he alinenate his MSNBC masters.

Joe does a lot of emotion over reason arguments. Sometimes he is rational and then suddenly goes into emotion.

Goes to show he knows better but does not stick to his guns.

Very unlikely the book will worth reading. I have no problem with Redsate taking the ad money.

Hey, let Move.org advertise here if they like!

How Can I Take A Book Seriously That Has The Same Title Of Another Conservative Book

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Monday, June 8th at 11:14AM EST (link)

It’s not like Bennett’s ‘America: The Last Best Hope’ was released forty years ago or something. Is Joe lazy, oblivious or disresectful.

Will you take the same position about Sarah Palin?

What’s Wrong?

1stRichard (Diary) Monday, June 8th at 12:26PM EST (link)

“Evangelicals and Hispanics”, having worked with so many and many as my friends, it is a fact that their “Ideology” needs little translation in to Conservatism. Sotomayor, Powell, Obama and others are lefty loons that have been proven on many points to be on the left and against traditional Conservative values. The GOP needs to start demonizing, “carpet bomb” especially the Hispanic media on how these lefty loons are against their specific traditional Conservative values now and continue this attack. We have so much bias in the MSM that covers up the correlation of traditional specific values of many groups to Conservatism that needs to be exposed more.

What’s Wrong With This Picture? The bickering of “they might not like us” needs to end and the Republican Party needs to start fighting…

Any Republican with a show on MSNBC

The_Rebel (Diary) Monday, June 8th at 1:11PM EST (link)

cannot be taken seriously and deserves little or no respect for his views.

You might say they're not real conservatives...

they just play one on TV. (I don’t watch Joe Scarborough so I’ll stay out of the specifics here)

I guess I'll have to take another look at him

The_Gadfly (Diary) Monday, June 8th at 1:28PM EST (link)

I only caught a very short snippet of him on the radio the other day. Sounded reasonable to me, but it was a very short snippet. He did beat an “unbeatable” Dem in Florida without assistance from the RNC or whichever of the national orgs it was that is suppose to help Rs win elections. So I assumed he was one of the good guys.

He is right about the Evangelicals. If groups like the Mainstream Republican Project continue to kick them to the curb, they will leave, possibly even third party if their issues aren’t addressed. I put his sensitivity to Hispanics down to him being from Florida. To the extent we can make inroads into their ranks we ought to, but only by conveying the conservative message, not selling out like McCain and the Bushes have advocated.

But I’ll take a more careful look at his positions since first impressions can be deceiving.

You can get a good look at a T-Bone by sticking your head... -nt

Okay, I'm going to have to stand by my original assesment

The_Gadfly (Diary) Tuesday, June 9th at 6:09AM EST (link)

This guy isn’t one to burn. He may have gone into the lion’s den to fight them, but he’s not one of them. ACU rating of 96, Family Research Council like’s him, even Wikipedia marks him as conservative except moderate on environment and human rights. Ran on cutting government spending over and over and over again. Left office with a clean record as far as I can see. Even took Rush over McCain in the last election while everybody was piling on behind McCain and telling us to hold our noses and vote for McCain (which I did). Buckley’s big show was on PBS, that didn’t make him a lib.

Doormat Republican

Sycophantic Republicans who let liberals walk all over them are shameful and unhelpful.

I don’t like them as tv hosts. I don’t like them as politicians.

I am sick of hearing about Colin Powell...

TxCon (Diary) Monday, June 8th at 3:15PM EST (link)

He got the perfect moderate candidate as the GOP nominee and yet still voted for Obama. Not only that, he torpedoed his supposed party’s candidate on national TV. Is the GOP tent supposed to be so big that it allows people in that vote for Democrats?

Wow, what venom

Hi, I'm a fake. Ignore me. Monday, June 8th at 3:23PM EST (link)

Joe Scarborough is a good, solid conservative. The responses here show how the GOP is falling in on itself.

“I’m not going to read his book” – but I’m going to criticize him, and it. OK…

Things must be even worse for their side than I thought! The speech in the Middle East, the Playboy thing, the May jobs report, and the AP actually spouting a few facts about how the stimulus isn’t stimulating anyone except government.

Sucks to be them.

Not to mention the fact that their attempts to blame the GOP for George Tiller's death fell flat. [nt]
