I can't imagine B. Hussein Obama even getting through the 2012 primary if he doesn't enact some kind of Obamacare. Obama praising a Health Care bill written exclusively by Republicans would give him a better chance of winning the 2012 Democratic Primary than getting no Health Care bill. He's bet his reputation on it and has to have something to save face. So, all of a sudden, he's Mr. Reach Across the Aisle. Finally! The first thing he's done that's actually TRANSPARENT.

They're too likely to fall for something. Let DeMint and Dr Coburn be the spokespeople for the GOP Senate Caucus in Bambi's little CSPAN-op.

I don't see a single thing wrong with publicly, on TV, giving Bambi the proverbial finger and telling him we'll see what the American people think in November. This is all the base has ever wanted from the leaders.

The man is a narcissist - he will promise one thing, then turn around and do whatever he really intended to do in the first place. And if the Republicans don't do what he wants them to do, he will whine that we aren't playing nice. Waaahhh. Poor baby.....

What you are saying, essentially (I think) is Obama must surrender first, then we talk terms.

Obama is driving his own team and the GOP to distraction by insisting on terms which are that it is his way or the highway, refuses to surrender.

Further, his refusal to surrender causes his team and himself, which he professes not to care about, continuing political losses.

Until someone can make him understand that his political losses are piling up from his stubborness, he will continue to drag the Dems down.

The Democrats are being hypocritical.

They know that the Republicans have few tools to use when they are in the minority, with no meaningful input or consensus on the process let alone the legislations.

In times like these, the filibuster is one of the few tools the minority has to protect it's rights.

If the Obama Administration and the Democrats actually wanted to work together...they wouldn't just create photo-op moments for Republicans and Democrats to talk...they would sit down up front and work on a bipartisan approach.

There is much common ground on healthcare. They should use the "summit" Obama is calling for to find meaning reform a majority of Americans can support...and pass that.

They can make a difference without jamming much of their partisan/liberal agenda down America's throat.

The politics of blaming Republican on using the filibuster when they won't involve them in meaning debate and drafting of important legislation is less than sincere.

This televised propaganda ploy is all for show!

several of the posters above in that:

1) the Republicans with be characterized as obstructionists with or without attending a meeting (so why go), and

2) they have a chance to appear to be the ones who are really listening to the American people by saying, "let's postpone healthcare until we address jobs, the economy and the deficit first".

FInally, several others at the beginning of this thread, I think, reflect the reaction the conservative base will have if the Republicans attend this meeting: distrust- in Obama's motives, fear- that the Republicans will cave, and anger- that the Republicans will appear even willing to cooperate after being bullied for months. What the base wants is a steel-spined, principled "No thanks. Not now and not with these bills." If they did that, I would be cheering. No more nerf swords brought to gun fights!

The GOP has a choice here. Remember, choices have consequences, so choose wisely.

The MSM is going to paint the GOP as "obstructionist" no matter what they decide to do. Knowing that, and knowing that both the GOP base and at least 55% of the independents are against 0's health care program, why give him the opportunity to say, "I told you so?" Instead, why not put out a, say, ten point HC program that we might be able to support?

My first choice would be for the GOP to say, "Sorry, Mr. President. You have given us the bum's rush for the last 24 months, so we don't see any need to help you out at this juncture. "

The alternative is to say, "Sure. But, first, you have to agree to start again, killing the current monstrosity. It is so gross that we do not believe that it can be repaired and talking about the impossible with you just doesn't make sense."

Just watched debate between Andrea Tantaros (I love her) and Bob "Comrade" Beckel on Fox. Tantaros and Fox poll said (43%) absolutely do not conference unless a FULL start from scratch. Only 23% think this bill should move forward.

Tantaros then outlined the key quality points that conservatives have been making about HC reform for the last year. The key, (and this will never change for Dems in current HC form) is that they want it cemented to be government run.....and nothing else matters. Also, the Dems still run the "you don't want to help people" bogus argument, and "what about the uninsured?" Then they won't listen to any of the 500 rational, logical solutions for above WITHOUT a socialized medicine bill and they won’t listen to arguments for killing this form of bill and starting again. Then they go into large number of lies and spin again.

This above is a perfect microcosm of what a Obama conference would be like with the GOP….except he would inject volumes of speeches in the middle and drown out all reason and spin acres of webs to try to mess up the GOP…..and…..90% of GOP are not even as tough and dynamic as Tantaros …..on a bad day.

The GOP has logic, reason, and polling on their side and they do not need to defend. They can also say they already have attempted to talk to the President (which they did) and the President he said “no restart”….and he is still saying it.

GOP should absolutely NOT do a HC reform conference until this bill in current form is 100% dead.
