Does ‘Letting Congress Decide’ Mask the White House’s Legislative Inability?

Senator Franken (D-MN), not known even in his short time in the Senate for his ability to play well with others, may have laid bare the lack of ability to pass legislation by the White House, which they mask as “we’ll let Congress decide.” (Senator Obama’s legislative achievements were, well, thin.)

Franken was reportedly enraged by the President dictating to the Senate to finish the job of health care reform. Moe Lane has reported on this, here, with his usual wit and insight, which I recommend reading.

Franken freaked, and likely believes that the imperious Presidential dictate on health care was masking inexperience, ignorance and an inability to pass big ticket items — while at the same time shifting blame to Congress.

Neat trick by the Trillion Dollar President. Clinton tried something like it (Morris called this different version of the same concept, triangulation) and it worked for a while, until Congress caught on.

The recent health care pounding has probably woken Congress up, and their sensors are at maximum. Now, they have locked on to what the White House is doing to them, which will likely not at all help pass Obama’s grand schemes for health care, energy, and banks.

Welcome to Jimmy Carter redux. Hope this was the change the Democrats were looking for.

Triangulation doesn't work when you dominate the legislature

In The Hook (Diary) Friday, February 5th at 4:18PM EST (link)

Clinton boosted himself with triangulation because A) he signed bills that were supported by the public and B) he was able to paint the GOP has people not acting in good faith, especially during the gov’t shutdown and the impeachment situation, because our side dominated the legislature.

Obama doesn’t have a Gingrich foil to play off of and even if we win the House, he still won’t have a similar foil because our leadership is actually better now than it was then. I know, I know, tough to believe but Gingrich basically just took the credit for the Republican Revolution and while he helped to follow through with votes on the Contract with America, he and his unbelievable ego ended up being chief among the reasons Clinton got re-elected and left office with soaring popularity. Boehner doesn’t have such an ego and while he’s not as forceful as Gingrich, he’s actually a pretty solid guy and his leadership is keeping the party in just as lockstep as it was under DeLay. You know, minus the whole Abramoff connection.

The Democrats should have realized this

INC (Diary) Friday, February 5th at 4:54PM EST (link)

would happen, or did they believe the Obama hype themselves?

Dan McLaughlin’s Integrity Gap series in October 2008 had some great information about Obama’s inexperience, ignorance and an inability to pass big ticket items. He linked to some interesting information, including this:

Jones became the State Senate President when the Democrats took the majority in 2003, and basically created most of Obama’s legislative record by adding Obama’s name on other people’s bills.

So if Obama’s actions in the WH did not surprise me, an ordinary citizen, why are the Democrats so shocked?????

They believed

and they had the not-quite-right-about-health-care Speaker leading them — repeatedly — over the cliff

Obama is trying to align himself with Brown voters

philbo Friday, February 5th at 5:38PM EST (link)

While on his incessant “It’s not my fault!” tour, he is being careful to distance himself from BOTH parties although his lies are mostly about Republicans. Even while he is lecturing everyone while presenting his new proposals (most of them conservative sounding), his own party is busy derailing his Tsar-government initiatives. Today, they acted to defang the EPA on carbon controls.

It’s all unraveling these days for one-party globalist governments around the world but particularly for Obama.

You’d think the GOP would be seeing the light by now but they continue to wage war against conservatives by trying to fray or usurp the Tea Party movement, It’s going to be a wild year.

Here is what Obama said today:

philbo Friday, February 5th at 5:53PM EST (link)

“”I think it’s very important for us to have a methodical, open process over the next several weeks, and then let’s go ahead and make a decision,” Obama said at a Democratic National Committee fundraiser.

“And it may be that … if Congress decides we’re not going to do it, even after all the facts are laid out, all the options are clear, then the American people can make a judgment as to whether this Congress has done the right thing for them or not,” the president said. “And that’s how democracy works. There will be elections coming up, and they’ll be able to make a determination and register their concerns.”

How delusional can he be? If I am reading that correctly, he is warning his own party in Congress that if they don’t pass Obamacare, the people will vote them out in November? The bloodbath is coming one way or the other but it might be better if the Dems kill that bill.

I just can’t wait to see how he words his “the people have spoken” speech next November. Does he really believe that Obamacare has a better chance of passiing next year with more Republicans in Congress? This guy thinks like a manipulative teenaged girl trying to worm her way into being popular with everyone.

Obama just went into "protect Obama" mode

PrecinctPatriot (Diary) Friday, February 5th at 6:32PM EST (link)

He just signaled that he would now “throw the Senate and House Dems under the bus” since “they” failed to produce the Health Care legislation that the American public wants. He will ignore that he “failed” to provide the leadership he so often talks about.

Who is John Galt?

Triangulation

lukematthews (Diary) Saturday, February 6th at 8:49AM EST (link)

OMG, I think you were originally correct. Obama is trying to use triangulation against his own Congress. He’s trying to paint them as an alien force bent on their own selfish needs. He argues they are the ‘Machine’ he was sent to Washington to fix. As they are marginalized, he will argue his ‘fiscally restrained’ budget and ‘responsible’ health care initiatives are trying to ‘fix’ the system and the Machine won’t do it. He thinks the body politic will rally to his side against the Machine and pressure for passage.

Of course, it doesn’t work very well when you are just blasting your own movement and not an actual opposing force. Demonizing your own party won’t help him much. In fact, it may swing more people against him once they recognize his duplicity toward Democrats and dissembling about reality. The politicos will embrace this concept, but the rest of the nation will cringe at this clumsy attempt at ‘internal diplomacy’.

Not the first time, since OFA (Organizing for America)

ran ads against House Members when they were wavering — so this is not a new strategy, just more arrogance and imperiousness — I say it, therefore, it must be.

The Debt Commission

Scope (Diary) Saturday, February 6th at 9:56AM EST (link)

A few weeks ago, Obama came up with the brilliant idea of a bi-partisan Debt Commission. That way, he could claim that the massive debt he is putting this country in was the fault of the Republicans as well. It was voted down in Congress, obviously with some Democrats voting against the commission.

In the SOTU lecture, Obama so arrogantly brought this up, and said, it was voted against, so, I will do it by executive order. In other words, if I don’t get my way the right way, I will get it anyway, and, be danged with those bad democrats.

Yesterday, I read an article about a press conference with Gibbs. He said that Obama will be signing the executive order very soon. I can’t wait to see what Republicans become a part of the Debt Commission. They will be the sitting ducks, with all fingers pointing at them, as those responsible for the nations debt.

Pretty much
