MoveOn.org Tells Members to Oppose Senate Bill, Burris Changes Tune

Daily Kos, from Stephanie Taylor’s blog titled, “Voters Revolt,”:

“A new Research 2000 poll from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for America shows that voters support a health care bill with a public option by an overwhelming majority, 59% to 31%–but when it comes to the newest Senate health care bill, with mandates and no public option, those numbers are nearly reversed. By caving to Joe Lieberman, Democrats are about to push for a bill with only 33% support.”

Politico published the text of today’s email from MoveOn.org to its members, which reads in part:

“it’s not too late to fix the bill. And as Joe Lieberman has shown, just one senator willing to stand in the way can force legislation to be changed dramatically.

Senator Bernie Sanders, a strong proponent of the public option, has already made clear that he’s opposed to the legislation in its current form—and he could decide to block it until it’s fixed.

But there’s enormous pressure from all sides to pass a bill quickly, no matter how weak it is. Let’s show Bernie and other progressives that we’re counting on them to block this version of the bill—and we’ll get their backs if they do.”

As the left bolts from supporting ObamaCare, Senator Burris takes back his No vote — saying we can’t kill this bill:

“We’ll see what it is, but what the situation is now is the realization that we can’t kill the bill,” Burris told POLITICO. “That’s the realization.”

Burris is a joke even on the left.

He walks around with a big sign pasted on his back, “Buy Me.”

“The situation is now is the realization that we can’t kill the bill.”
Any other senator(save Barbara Boxer) would he hard pressed to make a statement more vacuous and stupid than that one.
What Burris saying is let’s pass something–anything–just so we can say we passed something.

Next November is looking sunnier by the hour.

Today, there is a name for the political doctrine that rejoices in scarcity of everything except government. The name is environmentalism.

So is it going to be

We need to pass something for the sake of passing something and they will whip all their votes in line or is it going to wind up being two ends beating up the middle?

The dems would have “found” some new evidence that they could use to expel him from the Senate and install Giannoulius a little sooner if he was still threatning to vote no.

Burris is a running joke here in IL.

ChicaGOP (Diary) Friday, December 18th at 5:21PM EST (link)

He’s like the Ralph Nader of the Illinois Democratic machine. He gets into races just because he likes having a podium at the debates. Doesn’t matter if it’s for AG, governor or the Senate,

Burris is a pathetic caricature, a mealy-mouthed Willy Loman who rails at the night sky and insists he has somehow been robbed of his great destiny, when he has clearly lived a charmed life out of all proportion with his meager abilities.

I never held any hope that the worm would stick by a statement, let alone a principle. It’s almost a shame he’s coming home to stay next year.

The modern liberal is defined as one whose sense of guilt has exceeded his capacity for restitution – making it not only forgivable, but morally superior to raid someone else’s larder to pay his bottomless debt.

He already bowed out

We have a really early primary for an off-year election (Feb.2) and the filing deadline passed a month ago without him applying for his own term.

How About This For Delay: Snow Emergency Declared

Swamp_Yankee (Diary) Friday, December 18th at 5:06PM EST (link)

For you West coasters and Southerns, weve had a storm coming East for a while, but its really getting steam. VA declared an emergency.

This will send all of D.C. home early and probably keep most of them home tommorow. This is better than reading a 700 page amendment.

Luck or Providence?

God definitely has a sense of humor and heck of a good timing for things-nt

Big trouble for Dems ...

joayn (Diary) Friday, December 18th at 8:45PM EST (link)

They’re wheeling in the cots, according to TPM. Lieberman went back to Connecticut to spend the last night of Hanukkah with his family.

“Already, they’ve wheeled in the cots for members and staff who choose to slumber party the night away in the Capitol, or Senate offices. But tomorrow, bright and early, all of them could need to be on hand for procedural reasons. For instance, Democrats expect to have to waive a budget point of order they expect Republicans to raise against the defense appropriations bill. That requires 60 votes. ”

I think God’s killing two birds with one stone – health care and global warming.

If public option support is really that high...

tdpwells Friday, December 18th at 5:23PM EST (link)

…then I’m nervous whether the bill is killed or not. While I appreciate the meltdown on the left where this bill is concerned, their reasons for it don’t make me feel any better while they still have control of the country.

I do not believe that the power and duty of the General
Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual
suffering which is in no manner properly related to the

Government, the Government should not support the people.

The Thing You Have To Understand About Kos, and The Nutroots In General, Is That They 'Cherry-Pick' Polls

IJB Friday, December 18th at 5:58PM EST (link)

A poll can get you any result you want, if you know how to ask the question.

I have no idea what poll Kos is quoting, but it’s probably from someone like Democracy Corps. (D) where they phrased the question along the lines of, “Do you support a Public Option for health care, or do you support throwing old ladies and pregnant women out on the streets where they’ll die? DIE, I TELL YOU!!!” A question like that will, of course, get you 59% support in favor.

Anyway, I’m sure there’s probably about 10 other polls out there from reputable people (e.g. Rasmussen) who show Public Option’s support at <50%. But that won’t stop Kos and the nutroots – they’ll search far and wide for the one poll that will buttress their inane ‘talking points’, and then cite that one over and over again for the next 6 months ad nauseam…

But it seems to me that perhaps this whole thing comes down to Nelson. I don’t see any of the other donkeys bucking the party, and I’m terrified of what happens from here on out.

Nelson working with the White House

Weekly standard just said Nelson is working with the white house as late this evening. I think that is a very bad sign.

Should not be a surprise at all.

Nelson the Sun and the Moon and the Stars.

Or cement shoes……

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

I Doubt There's Anything Obama Can Offer Nelson To Vote for ObamaCare

IJB Friday, December 18th at 9:12PM EST (link)

If Nelson votes for ObamaCare, he’s finished in NE (the bill’s numbers in NE are something like 29-59 (59 *against*…)). And Nelson doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who’s looking for post-election-loss cushy job. And I doubt he responds well to threats.

While I expect the rest of the Dem caucus to behave irrationally, I’ve seen nothing over the years to indicate that Nelson falls into that camp.
