You know hang one and then string them up in the House chamber to rot and stink-- for all the other members to see...this way they will be motivated to vote her way.

...the less likely they'll prevail. The last thing they want is to carry this over to 2010. It's now or never. My guess is neither Reid nor Pelosi know if they have the votes--but are on the one hand hoping for the best and on the other ready to call it quits. This thing is wearing them down big time. They've tried threats, they've tried bluffing, they've tried fiscal sleight-of-hands. Nothing is working.

There's no question that the health care debate has completely deflated the Democrats, and put wind in the sails of Republicans. I'm astonished at how quickly Democrats have fallen, I thought Republicans would be in the wilderness for a long time.

There are other issues the Democrats could tackle that are (unfortunately) much popular with a majority of Americans. The longer the Democrats get bogged down in this fiasco, the better.

...bleeding them dry and dividing them. I can't believe Pelosi doesn't realize this. Nor do I believe she didn't realize calling for a vote right after this election would work against the bill. She knew it would hurt the bill--but she's still calling for a vote.

it's a phantom bill...Nor do I think he intends to have something any time soon since he knows he doesn't have the votes. I think he wants Pelosi to go first to resolve the issue get him off the hook.

What if Owens votes yes on Obama care? His Seat will go back to the Conservative Republican side..

Second : What if Owens votes yes on Cap and trade and it passes? His Seat will go back to the conservative Republican once they see their energy bills go up..........

I believe any way you put it I believe that this seat will go to a conservative republican once the Obama tax hikes start hitting the wallets of the 23 CD of NY.

because the Senate is a slower process and would possibly drag the issue into the next year. Better to kill it and be done with it. She has got to have known how devastating this election would be for the bill--yet she agreed to bring it up right afterward. I think they both want to kill the thing.

She would let it die in the Senate and blame Republicans, Lieberman and any Dem moderates up for re-election in 2010 who join into the fillibuster. If she loses this vote with a 81 seat majority it will look very bad for her and likely seal the deal in terms of her not being Speaker come Jan. 3, 2011 regardless of which part has the majority.

But it will be real easy for him to vote "No" on Obamacare, and use that to rally his reelection chances next year.

But as goes Owens, so will for about 50-70 other House Dems...

So writeblock may be on to something - Pelosi may indeed be calling this vote because she expects to lose it, and just wants the whole issue off her plate A.S.A.P.

You campaign against the Government option and your 1st vote as a Congressmen is on this healthcare bill. I wonder if he will side with his consituents or Queen Pelosi. My guess is he will either vote no or present (which might as will be no).

defeat is what she wants? I'm beginning to suspect she not only doesn't have the votes, but she wants to ditch the bill. The longer she and Reid drag it out, the worse it is for dems politically. I suspect Reid feels the same way.

Why she would want to do that is a mystery.

Maybe she just wants to beat Reid to the punch so she can claim the title of "Number One Obama Toady". Nothing else makes sense to me.

Bank on it.

There is now *no* reason for any Dem to walk the plank on Public Option, Medicare cuts, tax increases, and (most of all for some Dems) gov't funding of abortion.

But, if Pelosi is this dumb, she deserves to lose this vote.

(I wonder, however, if the ultimate defeat will be procedural - A Motion To Recommit the Bill to committee...)
