on Detroit, once the Arsenal of Democracy and now an empty shell of itself. I use Detoirt as a example in discussions with lefties as a model "Democrat run entity". Hard to argue the point that we are better off with democrats in charge with that vision. Michigan un-employment is near 16% and climbing and Detroit is a huge chunk of that number. Republicans and conservatives (I keep the two separate) have a great opportunity in Michigan in 2010 starting with the governor where two Republicans are polling near double digit leads over the leading democrat, Cherry.

"Spencer Abraham is who she beat, a pretty good conservative."

The danger of democracy is that sometimes it is dumb.

Like last year.

Of course, maybe many of the conservatives have left Michigan, so only Dems are left to fight among themselves for the few remaining entrails.

Like in Detroit.

Another case for eliminating the direct election of senators, but we all have our fantasies!

Does anyone else besides me think we have hit upon a really great rallying cry to oppose this government boondoggle they call health care reform?

Not One Dime!
Not One Dime!

I can hear it now.. being shouted at town halls throughout the nation.

We need to really hit them hard on this. We have to show how duplicitous Obama is. He likes to pretend he's all hands-off on health care, but he's behind this.. make no mistake. They simply cannot fund healthcare without increasing the debt massively. We cannot let them pull this crap.. everything needs to be on the table as part of one healthcare plan and let the CBO rate that!

My very first non-primary election, I voted against her for Congress. Then I voted against her for Senate after than. Then six years later I did the same thing, and I plan on voting against her in 2012 as well.

She's an idiot. The only good thing was that Mike Rogers took her spot in Congress.

The problem is with people who challenge her politically. The perception is the key. Perhaps her challengers can't get their message out effectively.

Maybe I am wrong but I refuse to believe most people are stupid. It's just that not everybody is as involved in politics as some are. They are so busy in their daily lives that they don't pay enough attention. They base their judgment on the limited knowledge that they get during campaigns.

If you were not so involved would you be as informed?

Who was her Republican opponent?

I lived in Toledo right across the border for 30 years and heard the gruesome nature of Michigan politics very often: To call Stabenow a cow, however, is an insult to our bovine friends!

They at least are useful!

the big THANK YOU for calling.

Technically they could call the bill up at any point or vote on another cloture motion, but Reid was doing a very very impressive imitation of Baghdad Bob today. News clip I saw said he only brought it to the floor because the AMA had assured him of a number of Republican votes for the bill and he was sure he'd win the vote. Instead he not only had unified opposition, he had 3 of "his" people voting against it. If this had been the actual Senate healthcare bill, it would have been defeated for the congressional calendar year. This was a huge victory. The AMA won't support the unified healthcare reform proposal unless the Medicare reimbursement rates are set high enough so doctors aren't losing money on the procedures. Putting those changes into the bill breaks it. They either wind up explicitly making even bigger tax increases or the CBO scores it as a budget buster.

I vote against her, I communicate with her and I am done with being passive and want to go viral. Somebody in the SW Oakland county contact me so that I can assist in her demise.
