are giving a bad name. And I DO know a lot of lawyers. Had lots of them working for me, worked with lots of them, and worked against lots of them.

Frankly, no lawyer should ever hold any executive office or be in a true decision making position. Their whole training is to find an argument and they can make an argument for or against anything. Whether or not that argument should be made on moral or ethical, even legal, grounds is rarely if ever a part of their analysis. They just shrug their learned shoulders and say something like, "that's up to the jury/people/trier-of-fact to decide."

To be a successful advocate, you must believe in yourself and your ability to win with your argument. Consequently, lawyers turned decision makers will ride a bad argument and a bad decision right over a cliff that was visible to any real person.

being an "honest lawyer". It's the same difference between "the law" and "justice". They are mutually exclusive.

I'm not going to get into a pissing contest with you, but the biggest problem - or one of them - is the promenence of lawyers in our society.

And I know lots of lawyers who respect the law and truth. In fact, my husband can spot a liar a mile away and his very favorite thing to do is to catch someone lying in a deposition or in court. Our kids have NO chance of ever getting away with anything when he is around. I think you are the one who doesn't know very many lawyers. You see lawyers see people going to jail and losing lawsuits all the time because of lying. Of course there are some bad apples. Just like there are some businessmen who are unethical. But in my experience the vast majority are honest.

Good diary.

I mean that that.

You fleshed it out in a meaningful way beyond a simple catch phrase.
It was worth reading.
Nice job.

The 5 is a leftover from an earlier version of RedState where you could rate (comments?) on a scale of one through five. The system went away but the practice did not. It's morphed into almost a contest to see who can come up with the most creative versions of the 5.

care about the law or truth. That would be a small number of lawyers. And even though Clinton and Obama have law degrees, did they actually practice law? Clinton may have briefly, but I don't think Obama ever did. Actually I think lawyers have a very high regard for the law in general, and truth in particular. At least the ones I know do. And lawyers who lie end up disbarred at best or in jail at worst. Or, they run for President.

I was too busy playing "Restaurant City" and "War Zone: Tower Defense" on Facebook.

Like you said, too many better things to do.

The only "news" that I have seen today is that the President did 5 shows and is doing Letterman tonight. Of course, it isn't news anymore. I think I will watch "The Factor" replay instead.

Watching him is like watching "A Christmas Story" marathon. It is the same show, all over again. Nothing new is said. It is the same speech as it was last year and the year before that. Only with him, it isn't once a year, it is at least twice a month.

I need duct tape... lots of duct tape. Just like the "Drill baby, Drill" campaign when all the drill bits were sent to Congress, we should send rolls of duct tape to the WH with a note; "SHUT THE DUCT UP!"

Outside all of the other reasons we discuss about why Obama does what he does and says what he says, I believe we are witnessing what lawyer do when there is no one around to stop them.

They lie.

They lie to promote their argument. They lie to avoid being forced into the truth. They lie because in their world, as in democrat politics, the ends always justify the means. (The sooner we get that, the quicker we quit getting hammered with a stunned look on our faces.)

My buddy, also a former detective boiled this down for me. He said lawyers will say and do anything to promote their client's case. In Obama's situation, Obama is Obama's client. Judges are in the court not to interpret the law, but to keep the lawyers in line. If the judge wasn't there, they lawyers would spin off into space, telling bigger and bigger whoppers. It is what they do.

The "Judge" in politics is supposed to be the unbiased media which scream "objection" when it hears a whopper- something it did all the time with GW. But Obama said what he said because he knew there would be no objection, just genuflection to his will and word.

If you let it get to you, you'll find yourself screaming at the television, doing a Joe Wilson. You have to understand, it is like lions eating baby gazelles, or snakes eating rats when you see lawyers lie. It is simply their nature. This is one reason, if I were god for a day I would change one law and make a huge difference. I would deny lawyers the right to run for public office or hold the position of a judge. I'd make common sense and some sort of decency grab a foothold in the courts and in politics.

I feel like there's a torrent of articles like these right now. With so much tripe flowing from the mouths of our "leaders", I very much agree we need to find them and share. It all so shocking...but what's even more shocking, by way of Ausonius and Crowe above, is that no less than a children's tale can explain away the lunacy of where we've landed as a country.
