What the Votes in the U.S. House and Senate to Defund ACORN Prove

It proves that the MSM has become irrelevant to floor votes in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate, even when both Houses of Congress are controlled by the Democrats.

The MSM buried the ACORN story and refused to give it the attention it deserved.

And in the end, SO WHAT?

Increasingly, the MSM are active partners in their own irrelevance.

Dan Perrin, about the ACORN defunding votes

Mr_Ed (Diary) Saturday, September 19th at 6:53PM EST (link)

I heard on the radio this week — from seemingly a reliable source — that the House and Senate defunding votes were part of a larger budget or other funding bill and that when the House and Senate conference committee meets to craft the final bill, these defunding amendments will be quietly dropped.

Have you heard anything about this?

No, and doubt it is true

The Democrats would be undoing any good will they earned for defunding ACORN.

It would be so bad that they would have been better off voting to keep funding if the funding was restored in secret in conference.

REDSTATE/TALK RADIO?BECK would have a field day.

Is it true?...

At least, it is normal procedure to use the conference report to “resolve sticky matters.”

I suspect the WPTF Radio 680 interview with Rep. Virginia Foxx, NC-5 is the likely source.

RUSH: Now, we all know that yesterday the House of Representatives, in voting to eliminate all private sector student loans and turn that into a totally government-run program, we were also told that Darrell Issa slipped in a bill there that would defund ACORN and that the house overwhelmingly voted for that. Ah, ah, ah, ahhh! Representative Virginia Foxx also with WPTF radio, the Bill LuMaye Show, asked her a question. “Do we at some point defund them entirely where both the Senate and the House come together and say, ‘No more federal tax dollars’?”

FOXX: They’ll let something like this fly because they know this bill has passed the House. It will go to the Senate. The Senate will modify the bill, and then it will have to go to conference — and what they do is they just drop that out when they debate the compromise. And they’ll just drop it out at that point and you can’t amend a conference report. So the rules are that you have an up-or-down vote on the conference report and you can’t amend anything. So they play this trick all the time. They’ll vote on something controversial and say, “That’s no problem. We vote on it,” and then when they get behind closed doors in conference they just pull it out.

RUSH: So that’s the trick. They knew they were going to pull it out in the Senate in the conference report. Oh, go in there and let the country think that they’ve defunded ACORN when they haven’t — and that’s Virginia Foxx, a congresswoman explaining how it’s done.

The question is: Who do Democrats fear the the most, the Average Voter or ACORN?

Only time will tell.

The problem of defunding ACORN is

they have so many pipelines into federal money that it’s scary. The vote to defund them with direct dollars gives the appearance of having done something without doing a whole lot of damage to the organization itself. Expect an increase in funds to those other orgs that funnel money into ACORN and be ready to shed light on the happenings.

ACORN 75 and NPR Sat AM

tedpomeroy (Diary) Sunday, September 20th at 2:25PM EST (link)

anybody have a list of who in the House and Senate voted against the ACORN defunding?

And oh it was so sweet, Scott Simon and Juan Williams had to lead the Saturday AM NPR news “All Things Considered” with the ACORN story.

You could hear the distaste in their voices, like someone had spiked the morning coffee with castor oil. They gave credit to the new media.

The tide is turning RedStaters! As Douglas MacArthur said upon the landing in the Phillipines over the radio… “Attack, attack now with everything you have”.
