about the Rockefeller amendment. If you hear anything about when it’s scheduled for a vote, I very much want to contact my senators.

We’ve had a HSA for several years, and love it, and think HSAs are the key to bringing down health care spending (it’s certainly helped us to be smarter medical shoppers and negotiators). I can’t imagine any worse “reform” than this amendment.

and would hate to see it go away.

I was able to get a 20% reduction in the cost of a medical test recently because I paid cash upfront with my HSA debit card.

this has been a concern of mine for years of how the compromises made that keep HSAs limited and expire (use or lose) yearly needed to be altered. Certainly, there could/should be some cap as we cannot allow people to park 100′s of thousands solely as a Tax dodge, but people should be allowed to SAVE these funds (which are, after all, solely allowed for HC cost use) over several years to cover themselves for LTD, COBRA, etc, expenses over short and even longer terms – which would SOLVE some of the concerns/issues of the Coverage Loss between Jobs (and whatnot) the Democrats love to use as part of their Numbers run-up of claimed uninsured (and therefore, they claim the need/excuse for Public Options) that could, would, should, otherwise remain covered with their own Private policy.

This is a very simple notion and fixes some of the HC issues – which is exactly why Democrats oppose them.

Just this one change to HSA/MSA improvements should be to actually help folks —- allow multiple year savings (eliminate, or at least, expand use or lose time-frames). This allows for the whole intent of the HSA/MSA concept, to save for unforeseen circumstances (major illness, elective procedures, JOB-LOSS COBRA coverage, saving money while one can afford it to cover potential LTD health-care related costs when one may be out of work and NOT have the income, etc) and/or Medical costs rather than just putting money away to cover Deductibles, Co-Pays, etc…

But, of course, Democrats/Liberals will block any such changes as it EMPOWERS PEOPLE rather than Government!!! Nor will they consider the other HC INSURANCE REFORMS they should be undertaking that would actually improve the state of Health-Care in America:
Cross-State line portability, Tort reform, PreExisting condition exclusion elimination (not allowed in MI, enact that Nationally), post employment coverage (modifying COBRA and HSA/MSA accounts to NOT ZERO OUT each year so multi-year savings can/will PAY FOR OWN COVERAGE while between jobs), (avoiding the HR3200 consequence/fact) More Govt. regulations and paperwork will DRIVE UP not reduce costs and bring us more Lawyers and Office Administrators to deal with it NOT Doctors, etc….

So just how do they believe it is a revenue raiser? What swamp-fed logic are they railing this time? Taxing the existing balances into oblivion? Or perhaps seizing the accounts as illegal?

Or this is one of the slip changes they will use to leverage more onto the public option? “If you are happy with your insurance coverage, you can keep it, nothing will change”. Another WHOPPER released in the air.

Until this mess is cleared, not a dime more is going into my HSA account. They are trying to find any and all ways to raise money for this albatross. Nothing is off limits. So the “it’s not a tax” WHOPPER that was told over the weekend is the new theme to pay for this.

I think Alcatraz should be the new retirement home for a great number of “public servants” in Washington. Just fill the bay with great whites to “encourage” them to stay put.
