If I understand what has happened this week in the fur-ball-fight known as ObamaCare, the left got rolled.
The White House says:
1) there will be an explicit ban on health benefits for illegal aliens;
2) there will be an explicit ban on abortion funding;
and, according moderate Senators of both parties:
3) there will not be even a public option trigger in the Senate.
And the liberals get what, exactly?
Here’s an exchange from ABC’s “This Week,” between Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and host George Stephanopoulos.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Secretary Sebelius, what’s wrong with that, making it explicit in the bill that no public funding should go toward abortions?
SEBELIUS: Well, I think that’s what the president intends to do. There’s no intent to change the language that’s in the current Medicaid statute, which has been there for years and provides insurance to millions of Americans.
And in fact, recently the Catholic bishops came out, after the president’s statement, saying that his statement about what he intends in the plan, that no public funds would go to fund abortions, and the fact that he has come out firmly for insuring all Americans and saying it’s a moral issue as well as an economic issue, and they endorse moving forward.
So I think that, you know, the legislative language will reflect what the president has just said.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So you’re saying it will go beyond what we have seen so far in the House and explicitly rule out any public funding for abortion?
SEBELIUS: Well, that’s exactly what the president said and I think that’s what he intends. That the bill he signs will do.
Democrat Mary Landrieu said on the same show adding such language would soothe her concerns, and Republican Olympia Snowe said on CBS negotiators were making that explicit in the Finance Committee’s forthcoming measure.
Here, again from Politico, is the video of the exchange above:

Lefties got another speech!
illinois (Diary) Sunday, September 13th at 11:41PM EST (link)And, that’s all it took for those robots to swoon over their “one!” They’re so brainwashed—-they’re going to follow him in lockstep—-right over the edge. I’m beginning to agree with Rush when he said we’re witnessing Obummer destroy the Dem party. Can’t wait until Nov 2010 & 2012!
Barack can still tell the Left, "I'll be back"
6eorge Jetson (Diary) Sunday, September 13th at 11:57PM EST (link)The mile after every inch that gets conceded will be revisited if the Lefties get their chance.
Just two tactical retreats on their part.
Still not good enough
DerKrieger (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 12:01AM EST (link)Kill the whole damn thing.
A) It’s unconstitutional. Still waiting for the GOP to say so.
B) It will still take away my HSA.
C) It will still impose mandates on all insurers for a minimum set of benefits.
D) It will still mandate coverage of preexisting conditions thereby raising costs for everyone and implementing a trigger, if one is passed.
E) It will still not offer tort reform.
F) It still has language about the Federal government accessing peoples bank accounts.
All in all it is still a very bad bill that tramples the Constitution, removes choice, reduces liberty, raises costs, refuses to acknowledge responsibility in exchange for “rights”, and moves us down the path to socialism.
NO, no, no, a a thousand times NO!
“In questions of power, let no more be heard of confidence in man, but bind him down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” – Thomas Jefferson
“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.” – James Madison
Whenever the legislators endeavor to take away and destroy the property of the people, or to reduce them to slavery under arbitrary power, they put themselves into a state of war with the people, who are thereupon absolved from any further obedience.” — John Locke, 1690
And it's mandatory.

Heh.
mbecker908 (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 12:36AM EST (link)The IRS huh? Wow.
And just what is the unpaid tax estimate these days? It’s like a nine figure number. Hell, they can’t keep up with people who just don’t file let alone really collect anything.
That is the dumbest idea I’ve heard in a while.
The White House is warning of stalemate
Dan Perrin (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 5:32AM EST (link)You know, they flip left, then right, then left then right on the public option, abortion, health care for illegal immigrants and — come soon — Medicare cuts and the left will FREAK OUT!
Stalemate = the politics of ObamaCare in Congress.
The left cannot agree to the above, no way, no how.
So look for the Senate to go first. A big sign the House has got both left and right problems within it’s own caucus.
All the White House is doing is making its base angry and disillusioned.
The House has to go first
Loren Heal (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 5:36AM EST (link)if there are any tax increases involved.
They can wiggle out of it, but still.

Um, OK, well, if he wants to prove he means it
TNJim (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 12:02AM EST (link)then he can rescind his exec order thet abolished Bush’s exec order that denied US funding for abortions in other countries. If he doesn’t do that first, well, just wait and see what the expiration date on this one’s going to be.
Ditto, TNJim. nt

lefty doublespeak
bk (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 12:07AM EST (link)If they do it like the Capps Amendment, it’s just a matter of playing a shell game where the money comes out of bucket B instead of out of bucket A.
This is NOT good news
JSobieski (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 12:46AM EST (link)The primary problem with the Obama plan is that to be on the exchange, a policy will need to satisfy federal standards. HSAs will be gone because they are too bare boned. Only cadillac policies will survive, with little variance between options. Imagine an auto industry where you are allowed to compete, but all the cars must be based on the same design/specification.
If Obama actually compromises on some this stuff, he will almost certainly get the core of Obama care passed, and that would be a disaster.
Even though libs may feel like they would be losing the battle, what matters is the end result.
This is actually terrible news if true.
My rules of the road for primary season.
Rule #1: Vote for YOUR first choice in the primaries
Rule #2: Vote for the R in the general.
Rule #3: Don’t let anyone convince you to violate Rule #1 or Rule #2
Rule #4: When in a center-right argument, reaffirm Rules #1-#3–it will help us all to get along better.
Rule #5: If you are using the language of the left, you probably aren’t furthering conservativism
Rule #6: The priority is issues first, candidates second, and supporters third. Nobody is bigger than the issues. Conversely, if you spend your time focusing on supporters, you are wasting everyone’s time.
STOP THE MADNESS!
A reduction in the rate of spending increases is NOT a cut!
In-state tuition for illegals is NOT amnesty!
Requiring someone to pay their medical bills is NOT an individual mandate!
Reducing tax rates is NOT a tax increase!
THE EXCHANGE AND MANDATES
Dan Perrin (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 5:46AM EST (link)must be explained and attacked, repeatedly.
Feel free to repeatedly post about both the EXCHANGE and the mandates.
For example, when the Exchange began in Massachusetts, the cost of health care insurance premiums just about doubled (increased 80%)

That is why the left can never agree to it.
Obama FINALLY condemns murder
illinois (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 2:00AM EST (link)Isn’t it curious that Barry waited how long before making a public stmt condeming the murder of the anti-abortion activist. By contrast—Barry is always quick and forceful to condemn any conservatives that dare to disagree with his propaganda. But, of course I’m being RACIST, right??

What do they get?
Steven (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 5:18AM EST (link)They get to perpetuate the notion that the federal government has the authority to involve itself in this matter.
As long as we quibble over the details instead of defeating the premise, they win.
There’s nothing quite so exhilerating as being shot at… and missed. Winston Churchill
Agreed
Dan Perrin (Diary) Monday, September 14th at 5:37AM EST (link)but I doubt the left can give up the public option and abortion and health care for illegal immigrants.
They will walk away, the bill will die.
I hope you are right. This is where someone like Ted Kennedy would be smarter

azred (Diary) Tuesday, September 15th at 8:00PM EST (link)from amending the bill (or law) later with some other verbiage, especially attached deep within another bill (i.e. military funding for the war)? This has been done in the past, so without some very watchful eyes shining the light soon enough, this is likely a placating formality to get the trojan horse in.
If this were Slick Willie Clinton, I'd say he had no interest
Achance (Diary) Tuesday, September 15th at 8:06PM EST (link)in actually passing a bill. He’d load it up with every wet dream every one of his whacko groups had just to make sure it didn’t pass. Then he could snuffle a little while he said, “I never tried so hard to do something before…” They’d love him for trying and vote Democrat next election. That’s the way the old style Democrat worked.
Comrade Obama may be willing to risk bringing the heavens down or he may be content with a Trojan Horse, but this bill ain’t just for show in a BHO Administration.
