Democrats Dying for Good News are Grasping at Obama’s Health Care Illusions

The Democratic party has massive pent-up demand for good news on health care — i.e., they haven’t had any and Obama’s brightly colored abstract art painting of a health care speech has temporarily put the Democrats in a trance like state.

They will snap out of it, because the experienced veterans of health care warfare will help them.

One very experienced Democrat, a former Senate staffer who appears ofter on cable talk shows was very, very angry this morning. He believes Obama has completely destroyed the chance the nation had to get health care reform accomplished.

He simply stated that President Obama was not telling the truth on many key points in his speech yesterday.

Obama’s first point:

First, if you are among the hundreds of millions of Americans who already have health insurance through your job, Medicare, Medicaid, or the VA, nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have. Let me repeat this: nothing in our plan requires you to change what you have.

Obama wants to mandate all these new benefits — which he says he will do for free — for everyone’s health plan, and then he says your plan will not change. As soon as your plan changes — you are forced into the government-run, government-controlled health information exchange that dictates all plan designs of every insurance plan. But Obama keeps repeating what cannot be true.

Secondly, this Democrat was incensed that President Obama again said this plan will not increase the deficit:

I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits – either now or in the future. Period. And to prove that I’m serious, there will be a provision in this plan that requires us to come forward with more spending cuts if the savings we promised don’t materialize.

Obama is living in fiscal fantasy land. The last “spending trigger” for Medicare was simply ignored by Congress and then the law that contained the trigger to cut spending was simply changed so the trigger no longer existed. It has happened time and time again with any spending trigger, for decades and decades in Washington, including all the way back to Gramm-Rudman-Hollings, the great spending containment law that passed in the mid 1980s.

Everyone knows that Congress cannot cut Medicare. Everyone knows that this means it adds to the deficit. Everyone except Obama. Again, the Democrats are grasping at illusions because that is all they have left from ObamaCare. Who really believes that “fraud and abuse” savings will fund the lion’s share of a $1 trillion plan. It is laughable.

Third, when Obama said there “are now more than thirty million American citizens who cannot get coverage,” this Democrat immediately understood that the White House, by not using their usual 40 million person number (which is wrong, and everyone knows it) Obama was really telling Congress that the White House has given up on covering everyone. As CNN reported less than an hour ago:

In his Thursday briefing, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said that the 30 million figure was used because the administration is limiting who can be covered and therefore he argued the different number is the most appropriate.

In addition, those Dems reading the tea-leaves and parsing the Obama speech has come up with one other conclusions worth mentioning:

a) Obama has abandoned any hope of a public option in the Senate or in the final billl which the left cannot stand.

Simply put, hard-core experienced health care former staffers understand President Obama is not telling the truth about his two main points for people who have health insurance:

1) Your health plan will change;

2) The deficit will increase (this link is about an op-ed from the WSJ on why ObamaCare will cost $2 Trillion, not $1 Trillion, and here is just a taste: “Previous experience with changes in the marginal tax rates of high-income individuals implies that the current proposal to raise the marginal tax rate to about 50% from today’s 40% would produce only about half of the official revenue estimates.”)

The left wing of the Democratic party in the U.S. House will realize this over time, and will get increasingly restless.

Furthermore, Obama was LYING about abortion. ObamaCare covers it, it even has explicit language to insure there are plans in every sector of the country that cover abortion.

There was nothing new in Obama’s speech. But CNN’s polling of massively under sampling Republicans, over sampling Democrats creates more happy-talk that will evaporate in the hot political sun of opposition by the American people.

Make no mistake, Obama continued his untruth campaign and the Democrats, desperate for any good news, have suspended their normal political skills and appear to just believe.

And there is one rule of politics that you cannot, ever, violate, and that is you believe your own propaganda.

He's Lost all Credibility.

hondav65 Thursday, September 10th at 5:36PM EST (link)

Look I really think we are approaching the point where Americans don’t believe a damn thing Obama says. He just makes shite up out of whole cloth. “Oh yeah, my Shamulous saved a million jobs” – a “million” jobs? Why not say it saved a billion jobs and the universe along with it? He just makes this stuff up while ignoring all the facts to the contrary.

Same as last night – the guy told lie, after lie, after lie. No ObamaCare for illegals? Oh yeah – then why does everyone say that the language is vague enough that they’ll certainly be included? Why do Democrats shoot down every amendment the Republicans put forth to specifically PROHIBIT ObamaCare from going to illegals?

No funded abortions in ObamaCare? Oh yeah? Then why do Democrats shoot down each and every amendment the GOP proposes to specifically prohibit them?

“It’s going to be free – because we’re going to fund ObamaCare from the waste in the system”. Wait! You mean to tell me that there’s a TRILLION dollars of waste in Medicare? Sounds like our budget woes are over. Why not get that dough and throw it to the Chinese to pay off our debt so my grandaughter doesn’t have to sell her body to some shill from Shanghai to pay for food for her family?

These guys make Pravda during the 70′s look like reputable reporters. I mean seriously. I saw this coming on the Biden debates vs Palin. Palin smoked him – but the shards in the media declared Biden the victor even though the majority of his facts were wrong. It’s like – “Hey, let’s just say whatever sounds good!” Who cares about the truth???

Anyway – I think we’re finally “hip” to the lies now. He’ll go down in history as the most untrustworthy President ever.

It is a very serious

problem to have a country with a President that has such a huge credibility problem.

Glenn Beck is taking it to the "mainstream media" right now

ColdWarrior (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 5:53PM EST (link)

He’s using the fact that the ACORN story that broke today on Breitbart’s new http://biggovernment.com site is being ignored by the mainstream media.

All of the mainstream news outlets have failed to report on the story, which involves explicit corruption caught on videotape by non-mainstream media, self-funded investigative citizen investigative reporters who went undercover.

As I’ve said before, if the Republicans had leadership and a strategy, one strategy would be to stay off ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC and CNN until they all pledge to be “fair and balanced” as does Fox and pledge to actually perform their traditional role of investigating the party in power. We don’t need them to get our message out and staying off them would crystalize the issue — just as Joe Wilson’s “You Lie!” shout crystalized the issue that Obama lies, and lies, and lies.

We conservatives can change the leadership of the Party if enough of us become voting members of it. We can do that easily, as about 50 per cent of the precinct committeeman slots nationwide are empty. The election of Michael Steele, the faux conservative, rather than Ken Blackwell, is a reflection of the relative number of conservatives in the precinct committeeman ranks. If we had had more conservatives in those empty slots, Ken Blackwell, or another conservative, would probably now be in the RNC chairmanship.

Thank you.

interesting how 4 words are forcing MSM to do their job

techsan (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 5:57PM EST (link)

The words “death panel” and “You lie!” have much to stir conversation in the MSM. The former continues to get discussed…the latter is part of the news cycle right now. The have shined ever so little light on the meat of the debate…and unsurprisingly, only a little light is enough to break the darkness. In reporting on the so-called “un-civility”, truth is slipping through. Joe Wilson’s defense of his position, amidst his apology for manners, was well placed.

At this point, if this thing does fall apart (I have my own hope it will…but won’t rest until we stick a fork in it and it’s done), these 4 words are a part of the tale.

Oh…that, and the millions Americans who continue to stands up and say “no!”

In the end, all we have on our side of the debate are facts and history.

The MSM are trying so hard

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but…

erod (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 6:04PM EST (link)

I was listening to a local talk show here in Chicago and they had Rep. Mark Kirk (R-IL) on their show and he said it is likely that the new healthcare bill will pass the House and the Senate, although the Senate’s version will probably be a watered down shell of itself with a thinly veiled public option.

How will they accomplish this? Simple, Pelosi will ram it through the House by requiring every “blue dog” to vote on it by threatening to strip them of their committee leadership and most importantly their campaign funding. It seems that Rambo Emanuel is ready to call up the fundraising arm of the DNC and tell them not to give those defiant members any cash for their upcoming campaigns if they do not vote for the health bill.

This is very scary because this means that this bill will be rammed through the House and it will eventually go to the Senate where it will be stripped of a couple of elements. Then it will be negotiated and we will get what the Democratic majority wants. Of course, this would be bad news for most of the Dems that are up for reelection, especially those in vulnerable districts, because voting for this bill would be political suicide.

But, Pelosi has rigged this and either way they will suffer for the actions, if they vote for it they will face almost certain doom in their districts, most of them, and if they don’t for it they will get no campaign cash. I hope it isn’t over, please prove me wrong, but at this point I think that is. The Dems don’t care about us and our needs they only care about setting up a big bureaucracy and entitlement programs that will keep them in power and control other people’s lives.

Well, they can try

The point cannot be made often enough: Modern liberalism, as embodied in the Obama presidency, is the defender of the status quo. And the status quo is a road to economic ruin. Political forces cannot redistribute the wealth that the economic system does not produce.

I have to say that my biggest disappointment

Cheryl (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 10:05PM EST (link)

has been when I heard Pharma made a deal with the WH and went as far as to constribute millions in advertising to support it (and that this was negotiated by a former republican turned lobbyist).

Here we little guys are sitting on teleconference calls, blogs, making contributions in very tough economic times and going out to protest at rallies and townhalls and yet 90% of the MSM ignores us or downplays our movement.

That revelation (above) regarding Pharma in bed with the WH really discouraged me more than anything.

Fortunately we’re still in a fight and serious thanks to Redstate.

The blue dogs will not vote for it

E Pluribus Unum (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 7:06PM EST (link)

Not because they have any honor, but when faced with the choice of rock and hard place, they will choose hard place and not rock. Nancy has less power over them than she would like.

To vote yes on any Dem-presented health-care bill means they will lose re-election. Not maybe. That is the rock. It is certainty.

Getting stripped of whatever seniority is somewhat costly , but a whole ton of these are freshmen with no seniority to speak of. And as for holding out funds in their re-elections, the DNC is not going to do that wholesale. They’ll crimp it some and cause general headaches. But their 60 most vulnerable members also happen to be the Blue Dogs (for the most part), and if they shoot their own, the Dems lose the majority in the House.

5555 Well said! Joe Wilson "spoke truth to power."

ColdWarrior (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 6:08PM EST (link)

Joe Wilson, one man with a pair, just changed the debate by “speaking truth to power.”

He’s handling the apology well. “The leadership asked me to.” Then he’s explained that H.R. 3200 has no enforcement mechanisms re covering illegals.

We have to tell the other limp you-know-whats in our Party to start acting like Wilson. And I know it would be acting, because most of them have no courage, to say it nicely.

Thank you.

Neil Cavuto had The Judge comment on the illegals issue for the bill today.

The_Gadfly (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 7:46PM EST (link)

According to him, so long as the bill covers EVERYBODY, it doesn’t matter whether the bill has language about illegals. Even if the law had a provision prohibiting illegals, SCOTUS would rule that clause unconstitutional because it treats them differently. As nearly as I can tell this devolves from Brown vs The Board of Education. He said two lower courts have held this interpretation, and SCOTUS did not hear appeals for either of them.

The Judge is Andrew Napolitano.

I talked to an illegal alien today

Dan Perrin (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 11:01PM EST (link)

there take was that it did not matter, since they have US government paid for health care now, and every other illegal alien they knew had it to.

I think the judge is right.

UpLateAgain (Diary) Friday, September 11th at 1:49AM EST (link)

On November 8, 1994, Californians passed Prop 187 by a significant margin. It should have prevented illegals from obtaining public social services, non-emergency health care, and public education at taxpayer expense. It became law. Illegals were toast at the public trough. But it was overturned. The voters’ will was ignored, and the law was deemed unconstitutional.

As SCOTUS goes more to the left, it will be even harder to keep illegals from accessing any public health care that is put into effect. Even if there was a specific clause to prohibit illegals, they’d just say that portion of Obamacare was unconstitutional so there could be no further argument.

They could go wild on us and pull the nuclear option. I see many of them getting whipped up into an irrational frenzy abandoning any sense of democracy.

Did you notice how quickly Obama and other top DEMS are brushing off the YOU LIE? Only the MSM is pushing it. Obama quickly wanted to move on and minimized it. You know why?

The longer and bigger stink that gets made about YOU LIE, the more people will actually investigate themselves and find the arrOgant in Chief did lie.

Now the debate is "who is lying?"

GT350 Thursday, September 10th at 7:05PM EST (link)

Wilson changed the debate and got inside their OODA loop (albeit unintentionally). The debate is now “who’s lying?”. These are not just policy or opinion differences. Someone has to be lying or misrepresenting the other side’s positions.

The debate is going to roll around charges and countercharges. Dems have as much to lose as to gain, and not all their “flowers and unicorn” promises will come out winners. Americans already disliked the deal, back when the Pres and Dems were seen as honest brokers.

In the meantime, they lose valuable time. Moderate Dems are nervously looking at 2010 elections and having a hard time supporting this pig. When you’re on defense in politics, you’re losing.

kewe65 Thursday, September 10th at 8:06PM EST (link)

please point out the exact sections of the bills that have actually been published where it says ANY of the crap you allege. The kicker is the comment that there are specific lines in the bill that cover abortion.

i’ve read the house bill, HR3200 – yes, the entire thing. it does not say ANY of the things you allege they do. it’s convenient that you can say things like “explicit” but not actually do the homework to identify what page or section it appears.

if you can’t be truthful and debate facts, why bother? why do you work so hard to be deceptive against your own benefit purely for partisan ideals? THAT is dreamland…

I mean, if you’re looking for the literal words you won’t find them but you’re going to find their definitions or a synonym. What’s not to understand about the term Nonresident aliens except that their “home of record” is not the United States? pg. 170 Since when did illegals become residents?

What’s not to understand that abortion is covered in family planning clauses when the goal is to “lengthen the intervals between pregnancies”? Pg. 768

Or is your reading comprehension so bad, that you can’t figure that out? If so, blame the education system, not us.

If you are talking about the abortion stuff

Dan Perrin (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 11:30PM EST (link)

then I would point you to an Associated Press story that says abortion is a covered benefit.

Heart surgery is not in the bill, but it is covered, and all insurance contracts specify what is NOT covered because the list of what IS covered is too long. It is the same with the bill.

Here is an AP story:

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hfODLR0wl7aBmaQ38Za6eyzLJ9hQD9A6AE0G2

THE POLL: 50 percent expect taxpayer dollars will be used to pay for abortions; 37 percent don’t.

THE FACTS: The House version of legislation would allow coverage for abortion in the public plan. But the procedure would be paid for with dollars from beneficiary premiums, not from federal funds. Likewise, private plans in the new insurance exchange could opt to cover abortion, but no federal subsidies would be used to pay for the procedure.

Opponents say the prohibition on federal money for the procedure is merely a bookkeeping trick and what matters is that Washington would allow abortion to be covered under government-subsidized insurance.

Here is where the Catholic Church is on the

Dan Perrin (Diary) Thursday, September 10th at 11:45PM EST (link)

abortion issue:

“The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops has sent a letter to all members of Congress stating that the bill is unacceptable because it would provide federal funds to insurance carriers that provide abortions. The letter was signed by Cardinal Justin Rigali, the archbishop of Philadelphia, who is the chairman of the bishops committee on pro-life activities.”

Health Care Reform: It is a Lie

Dougist Thursday, September 10th at 9:08PM EST (link)

Finally last night someone spoke the truth. Health care reform and the debate around it has all been a lie.

This massive political battle is not about improving the lives of the citizens of the United States, it’s about who’s going to control one of the largest industries in the world. Congressman Joe Wilson said what everyone has been feeling, that we are not talking about the real issues.

To get you all to agree or disagree with the current proposals for health care reform some really big lies are being told.

I wrote about them here ->
