President Obama’s Approval Rating Sinks, 54% of Americans Want No Health Reform this Year

President Obama’s approval ratings have taken a further downward swing, among likely voters, not among “adults” that the national media uses to inflate the polling results in President Obama’s favor.

Here is the approval rating graph.

What is also interesting is that 54% of Americans — among likely voters — believe it would be better if Congress did nothing at all on health reform.

It bears repeating, a majority of Americans want Congress to do nothing on health reform this year.

Here are some of the demographic details, about how age, income and political affiliation of those polled, and how these factors impacted their views:

This does not mean that most voters are opposed to health care reform. But it does highlight the level of concern about the specific proposals that Congressional Democrats have approved in a series of Committees. To this point, there has been no Republican support for the legislative effort although the Senate Finance Committee is still attempting to seek a bi-partisan solution.

Not surprisingly, there is a huge partisan divide on this issue. Sixty percent (60%) of Democrats say passing the legislation in Congress would be the best course of action. However, 80% of Republicans take the opposite view. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 23% would like the Congressional reform to pass while 66% would rather the legislators take no action.

Voters who earn less than $20,000 a year are evenly divided but a majority of all other voters would prefer no action. Middle income voters, those who earn from $40,000 to $75,000 a year, are most strongly in favor of taking no action.

Independents and middle class voters all want no action by the Democrats on health care this year.

This fact is likely directly tied to the nose dive in President Obama’s approval rating, since he keeps talking and talking and talking about Obamacare, Obamacare, Obamacare.

This also may explain why James Carville and Howard Dean are recommending not doing health care this year, or alternatively, blaming the Republicans for it dying an ugly death in the Senate.

Really...

Does anyone think that the Dems will pay attention to the outrage of voters? No, we will get healthcare “reform” no matter what the voters say.

They will pay a very heavy price

But will it matter?

PoliPundita (Diary) Tuesday, August 18th at 2:57PM EST (link)

I hope so but am by no means convinced it will. The problem with self-righteous meddlers like BO, Sestak, et. al. is that they are arrogant. They believe they have special insight and wisdom unshared by the mere peons they rightly rule. Noblesse oblige (with other people’s money) makes them feel magnanimous and feeds their enormous egos.

Then, too, this is the closest they’ve ever been to their dream of a full takeover. They’ve angered the public. If they back off now, they may never get another chance. I’m not backing off this thing until I see it lying dead in it’s coffin. And even then, I’ll bury it with garlic and drive a stake through its tiny liberal heart, just for good measure.

The question that is relevant,

Dan Perrin (Diary) Tuesday, August 18th at 8:36PM EST (link)

will the House vote first? Or will they let the Senate, and the the Carville plan is in effect, let it die!

I agree with Howard Dean and James Carville

and put Obamacare away for another time. Hopefully that other time will be after the 2010 elections. Yes, please do blame the Republicans for it dying an ugly death. Hopefully the Republicans can also be blamed for the ugly death of Cap and Trade, Card Check, Immigration Reform, and every other Liberal agenda. That will spell landslide success for the Republicans in 2010. Let’s all vote for the party of NO.

The only problem I can see with that

Would be with a complicit Bulls&*t media. That will be translated as the republicans killed any attempt to do something. What needs to be pushed is that these douchebag Democrats had an obscene majority of the house, had a filibuster proof senate, and the presidency, and didn’t do a damn thing that was constructive for this country despite there rhetoric. Then we have to be able to offer the proper solutions and sell on how a free market totally works.

The Republicans must must must come up with alternatives that will work for the majority of Americans. It is obvious that healthcare insurance reform is very critical, and I could smack the Republicans who had the majority in the Congress during the first 6 years of the Bush administration, but did nothing to tackle the problem. Can you immagine if the Republicans would have tackled this issue, and what would have come out of it? That is if they could have come out of their spending spree euphoria, and came up with some real solutions rather than extending more Medicare Benefits via Part D.

Yeah, no doubt

Leopard1996 (Diary) Tuesday, August 18th at 9:07PM EST (link)

There would have probably been more market based solutions, the dems would have probably voted for it after bitching about it, like the war, then if some part of it didn’t work, they would have been against it after they were for it.

Oh what a wonderous time we live in.

I agree with you and agree with them, any other action will cost them BIG time at the polls.

Health care reform NOW!

Questioner: “Reform in what way?

Leftie Talking Head: “It’s critical to have health care reform NOW!”

Questioner: “Again, reform what specifics, and how?”

Leftie Talking Head: “We must defeat the eveeeel insurance companies and pass health care reform NOW!”

Questioner: “Please, tell me what you’re proposing to fix, and how!”

that talked about the “sympathetic intellectuals” vs the “objective thinkers”? The intellectual (morally relative, and I know better than you) believes that I am right and you are wrong, and if you don’t buy the snake oil I am selling, you are not worth the time of listening to. The mind of an Obamacare supporter.

That is totally what is going on. It is totally the mindset of most liberals. For example, since I am black I need to support them and be a liberal, I am not allowed to think that hey government had the ability to take away rights of black people once, why would I trust the government again.

Vic Snyder's cowardly townhall

DerKrieger (Diary) Tuesday, August 18th at 9:14PM EST (link)

Congressman Vic Snyder held a rigged townhall meeting at the Statehouse Convention Center to promote HR3200, the Obama Healthcare Plan. The meeting was not even given 24 hours notice and was held at noon, instead of after work hours. The moderator for the meeting was Skip Rutherford, Clinton School Dean, and former consultant to the Democrat National Commitee. Rutherford was also the decider of who got to ask questions. Snyder wasted the first 13 minutes or so giving the usual claims on what the bill will do (no page #s). He once again accused those who opposed healthcare of being for nothing, despite the other healthcare bill HR2520. Snyder staff members held the microphones and often moved them away from people who disagreed with HR3200. The second questioner is an obvious political plant. A real townhall meeting is being scheduled by Secure Arkansas for August 28th at UALR.
