A full house would be if you have three cards of the same kind (say, three Jacks), plus a pair (like two Aces) in your hand of five cards. It's a pretty good hand, but as we are seeing, it would appear that Obama's been willing to trade in his cards in exchange for his radical agenda being implemented.

Typical. He starts out by saying the R's suck, and now so do the D's (does he ever not trash republicans/onservatives?). He posits all of this in a sense of moral equivalence between the two parties.
He then provides the following examples of 'bad' deeds:

$787 B political payoff spending orgy (democrat) as stimulus.
$11 T budget deficit.
Healthcare bill that will bankrupt the country, which rewards inefficiencies and punishes performance.
Allowing pelosi to run the show with approval ratings below Cheney or Palin (favorite nyt yokel benchmarks of failure).

What exactly have the R's ever done to compete with this wholesale rape of the constituion and our treasury? Where is the equivalency, brooks?

Brooks then summarizes:

That leaves matters in the hands of the Blue Dog Democrats. These brave moderates are trying to restrain the fiscal explosion. But moderates inherently lack seniority (they are from swing districts). They are usually bought off by leadership at the end of the day.

And so here we are again. Every new majority overinterprets its mandate. We’ve been here before. We’ll be here again.

Those heroic moderates, flapping in the wind, will stop this radical deconstructing of America? What an asshat.

BTW Dan, a really great diary, it's just that brooks gets my blood boiling (which is why I never read him anymore).

No way. He's got a small pair. It'll be even smaller once we kick most of his agenda to the ground. Might even get cut back to a single.

I gotta say, I don't know what "full house" refers to. Maybe we're using different analogies.

Great list.

"Why the House Democrats are agreeing to go first and vote on health care is a complete mystery because at the beginning of Congress everyone concluded that since the U.S. Senate was where the politically doable would happen, the Senate should act first. Now, desperation has set in, and Speaker Pelosi and President Obama are making their moderate members walk the plank, again."

The strategy was this: Get a left-wing bill out of the House, get the moderate bill out of the Senate, reshape it left in conference, then do the final cram-down once you know the headcount.

As noted, this is a left-wing cram-down strategy. They thought they'd have the numbers to do it. but they screwed the pooch. Cram-down politics is where you spend political capital and they blew it on the stimulus.

They could/should have made the stimulus a bi-partisan one and saved their cram-down political capital for later... they should have just let the Senate take the lead on ObamaCare and put the House on the back-burner ... they should have given up on cap and trade once the wheels started coming off the money flow on it (They were counting on Cap-n-trade revs to pay down ObamaCare)
... now they are STUCK with 2 extremist proposals and an American giant woken up by their stupidity. They will get more and more unpopular the more people read up on their tax-hiking freedom-destroying bills.

Couldnt have happened to a worse bunch of jackboot liberal NannyStatists.

Still, the clock is way early and the Congress can regroup post August recess. Lots of oppty for the GOP limp-noodleship to save Obama's bacon and for the Obama team to recover. OTOH, what the GOP *could* do if its smart is demand a few 'rules' for ObamaCare and cap-n-trade that in effect cuts the left out of the loop. Turn the tables on 'divide and conquer'.

The Day ObamaCare dies will be Schadenfreude Day. Dare I hope?

He will just have Timmy print more Capital for him.
