Mark Sanford and Jim DeMint are the two best Republican politicians in existance.

You don't hear either one of them spouting Leftish non-sense like calling the Club for Growth "The Club for Greed" (Mike Huckabee). Nor do you seem them crawling on bended knee to the New York Times in the hopes of winning the New York Times favorite Republican Award (John McCain).

Either Sanford or DeMint must run for President in 2012 if the Repulbican Party and the United States of America are to be saved from me-too-ism and socialism.

leadership. He's a true fiscal conservative, but he's not the only one in that field (Jindal, Romney (maybe), etc). I'm from Texas, and Rick Perry seems to be positioning his Presidential troops, but he was hard core for a Intrastate Rail program which is a big no-no in my book (eminent domain is not my friend).

The thing Sanford brings is just what the Newsweek article highlights, and it's what I loved most about Dubya... he's willing to stand in the face of almost total opposition when it comes to principles. It takes chutzpah not to cave to political pressure. Granted, he's a lame duck in SC so he's got nothing to lose, but he's been consistent from the get go.

Sanford has been what no one else has been (maybe excepting... gasp... Newt, who I'd love to see as a VP) a voice crying in the Conservative Wilderness. IF things progress as they are, I think he could be a good candidate in 2012, but a lot of that depends on what happens in SC between now and then.

I have been waiting for him to run for President. I was hoping he would run in 2008, but he said he gave his word to SC voters and wanted to stand by his word (just as he did when he term-limited himself in congress after 3 terms). I have actually e-mailed his chief of staff to let him know that I am ready to do whatever I can to help Governor Sanford in 2012 if he decides to run. I firmly believe that government spending will be the top issue next time around and Sanford has the credentials to win it. I know I'll do whatever it takes because this is the first politician in my lifetime that I have felt I could relate to and trust.

Some very interesting insights on a major 2012 contender. I agree with Brian about the possible liability of him having taken the stimulus money after initially suggesting he would reject it. I think the only mitigating factor is that Dem whip Clyburn (D-SC) pushed so hard for it. Also, Sanford has a really impressive resume (MBA from UVA, successful business exec., Congressman, Governor). Barring any major stumbles in the next 3.5 years, he will make a formidable opponent against Barry in 2012.

I thought him a bit of a flake for years, although he was the first Repub I ever voted for, for anything statewide or to go to DC. But he has won me over. He is my first choice.

... but I still drop around.

And the bad thing about being called black is that these days pots and kettles prefer to be called "cooking utensils of colors." Political correctness has even reached the kitchen.

I'd caution anyone against committing to a presidential candidate this early. Sanford and Palin are presently my top two choices, but I'm withhholding judgment for now, especially in terms of how much Palin has to prove and overcome. I'd rather see us have a strong field of possible contenders come December 2010, then we can start picking sides.

I met him a couple of times in the past year during the election season and was very impressed with him. Living in SC you see the problems there. The state legislature is held by Republicans but they are very comfortable with the way things have always been. Back during Reconstruction, the state gov't was restructured to the legislature held more power than the exectutive branch just in case there was ever a black governor. Gov. Sanford might have talked with you about this, he did the last time I heard him. Things have changed a lot in SC but not the good ole boy system. We tried hard to get new people elected and succeeded in quite a few races but there are plenty left who are giving him problems.

Gov. Sanford knows how to hold his own. He knows what he believes and stands by it. I LOVED the pigs! Best thing though...no teleprompter.

And, nothing against the other possible candidates in 2012, if he decides to run, Mark Sanford is my first choice.

By the way, for either Mitt Romney (auto bailouts, Iraqi troop withdrawal timetables and him being a conservative) and Mike Huckabee (border enforcement, support for the "Fair Tax" and just about everything else) accusing anyone but especially Mark Sanford of "being before it before he was against it" is a case of the pot calling the pristine, slver never-used kettle black.
