As I write this, the Republican primary to select the challenger to Bill Foster has now finally narrowed to two individuals – Ethan Hastert and Randy Hultgren. Skepticalmi put together a great overview of the background of this race here, be sure to check it out. As mentioned by acat in the comments, the election of Bill Foster to former Speaker Hastert’s seat was the result of a perfect storm of Illinois GOP incompetence, general disillusionment with the GOP by the public, and a personal intervention by the One.
Blago: The Fitzmas gift that keeps giving
Apparently the news cycle here in Illinois was too slow for the taste of Sir Rod. He decided to name Roland Burris, the former comptroller of the state to the seat vacated by PEBO. This is fun for several reasons… It is now clear that what we have here in Illinois is a designated “African-American” Senate seat, and I wonder how Illinoisians are going to view that. Also, Harry Reid and his 49 Democratic Party colleagues made it quite clear, they would not be happy with a Blago selection. Whatever will PEBO do? Looks like a stifling media bubble is not his greatest concern.
Two important seminal works every child in school should know
I debated about whether or not to truncate these items and allow the reader to follow links for the full text. I decided against it, however. I believe the importance of these works cannot be overstated and it would be worthwhile for those of us who have perused them in a while to do so, to remind us of what we should be. The general meme in the media (and some posts here) is that the GOP is lost out in the wilderness. The reason, I believe is because the party failed to follow the simple map provided by these great men. It is not complicated, but it requires a loyalty to principle over self, country over party, a Higher Power (Creator) above all things. Why would the public choose Democrat-Lite candidates when the real things are so readily available? When you stand for nothing then no one will stand with you. If the Republican Party makes the error in assuming their problem has been conservatism, they will doom themselves to nonexistence. Examine these items closely, and learn what they have to teach…
McCain’s New Ayers Ad
To date, the most comprehensive narrative by the McCain-Palin campaign regarding the Obama-Ayers connection. I know we have about a month to go, so hopefully they are planning on tying this into a larger picture of do you REALLY want this guy residing in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with the world going to he%% in a handbasket?

Surprise, surprise – Obama wants to rewrite the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution
When asked point blank by Tom Brokaw in the debate last night, Deus Obamus revealed just how worthless a law degree from an esteemed Ivy League school actually is. To point, I am not an attorney, but I can recognize the difference between a right, a privilege, and a responsibility. John McCain answered this question appropriately. Obama failed. Why is this important? It is a window into the heart of the liberal. The liberal feels the Constitution is a living document. That rights evolve over time. Leonard Peikoff, Ph.D. addressed this issue when this monstrosity first reared its ugly head under the guise of Hillarycare. Here’s what he said,
The American concept of it is officially stated in the Declaration of Independence. It upholds man’s unalienable, individual rights. The term “rights,” note, is a moral (not just a political) term; it tells us that a certain course of behavior is right, sanctioned, proper, a prerogative to be respected by others, not interfered with — and that anyone who violates a man’s rights is: wrong, morally wrong, unsanctioned, evil.
Now our only rights, the American viewpoint continues, are the rights to life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. That’s all. According to the Founding Fathers, we are not born with a right to a trip to Disneyland, or a meal at Mcdonald’s, or a kidney dialysis (nor with the 18th-century equivalent of these things). We have certain specific rights — and only these.
It is interesting to note the original US Constitution did not actually enumerate any rights, since our rights do not come from government, but FROM OUR CREATOR. (I know that this may confuse Obama as he tends to believe that he is one and the same…) The Framers, however, did not trust government to leave well enough alone (and rightly so), so they inserted the Bill of Rights to provide an “insurance policy” for the American people against their democratically elected representatives that their limited, enumerated powers did not encompass the abridging of such fundamental rights as freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and the right to keep and bear arms, etc.
Give soldiers money and it won’t cost you a dime!
H/T to Dr. Rusty Shackleford @ The Jawa Report It’s really very easy. Just click here, scroll down to SOLDIERS ANGELS, click the radio button, and click vote! There, you’ve just given this worthy charity $2.00. You should now feel better!
Banning that deadly dihydrogen monoxide…
I saw this and realized why we have such a problem putting away Deus Obamus. If this were a discussion based on rational principles, he would be dead in the water (sorry, pun was actually NOT intended)… BUT…
Grading Barry’s Paper on the Economy
Courtesy of Flip @ Suitably Flip is the following previously unreleased paper Barry submitted as a response to the recent financial rumblings…

Poor Barry, looks like he is going to have to repeat the class…
Talk about getting ambushed!!
(H/T to Allahpundit at Hotair) This audio clip is priceless. I completely disagree with Mike Gravel’s assessment of the war in Iraq, but you have to give him some plaudits for being able to rise above the acrimonious partisanship and call the lefty MSM hosts on their grawlix. The incredulous tones to their voices made my heart pitter patter a bit.!
If it wasn’t so scary it might be funny
Why is it that when I read this, with regard to our current agreement with Poland…
But Democrats are now questioning all that spending as premature.
“Go ahead and move on with research and development,” said Representative Ellen Tauscher, Democrat of California, who is chairwoman of the House subcommittee that oversees the missile defense program. “But as far as putting holes in the ground in Poland, we are saying no.”
then I think of this…
It’s not like we have a player on the world stage with a history of overt aggression threatening its neighbors who happen to be an ally of ours…or wait…never mind. Sigh, do these people really want our country wiped off of the globe? At what point does actively campaigning against the interests of your own country actually become treason? Think about it, from their domestic agenda (abortion, immigration), to their energy policy (OCS, ANWR, carbon taxes), to their foreign policy (Iran, North Korea, SDI) – it all is aimed at undermining our geopolitical footing.
The Moment Before the Pain…[FIXED]
Excellent photo series I received. I had to clean it up a little bit, though, in order to meet posting standards…

Ouch! Now Obama’s getting it from his flank
Michael Goodwin is hardly a right wing sympathizer by any stretch of the imagination. He, however, in his interpretation how Team Obama got steamrolled by the Clintons, hit the nail on the head for what is the greater problem revealed by the outcome of the Clinton/Obama convention face-off. An unsettling premonition of what to expect under a potential Obama presidency. With regard to how Obama gave away the store to Clinton…
A few more big-ticket items and she’ll be the co-nominee. Maybe that’s the point.
It reminds me of a Cold War joke about how the Russians view a compromise. They come to the table and announce the rules: What’s mine is mine, what’s yours is negotiable.
How would President Obama respond?
I think we just found out.
‘Nuff said. Even his own team doesn’t trust him with the Russians.
The Sinister Cheney-Putin-Bush Triangle
sarcasm
I’m surprised it actually took this long for the link to be uncovered. It is so obvious. Putin is on McCain’s campaign committee and realized drastic measures were necessary to assure McCain’s victory. The whole invasion of small, peripheral nations which is so uncharacteristic of the Russians, now makes sense.
/sarcasm
How long before the conspiracy theorists at the Kos latch on to this one?
You mean immigration enforcement actually works?
Who would have thunk it? Now I realize that this may not be one of McCain’s strongest issues, but I still feel it is worth noting enforcement of the laws already on the books is all that is necessary to maintain our cultural integrity. It has nothing to do with xenophobia, racism or whatever other claptrap proponents of the failed policy of comprehensive reform spew. My parents both immigrated here legally and patiently waited while all their paperwork was lost twice (total turnaround time was about 9-10 years). But they realized what they cared for most about this country would rapidly diminish if they wouldn’t assimilate to the culture. It is not to say they disavowed their heritage. But there is a big difference between being proud of one’s heritage and actively undermining the very culture from which you are trying to benefit.
The Slippery Slope of Climatofascism
What has happened to rational science as guide to directing policy? Or, an even bigger question, why is it the remarkable similarities between Stalinism and the policy proposals of the left (it is redundant to say radical left) are not brought into the light to a greater degree? Vaclav Klaus has some experience with this (emphasis mine)-
As a politician who personally experienced communist central planning of all kinds of human activities, I feel obliged to bring back the already almost forgotten arguments used in the famous plan-versus-market debate in the 1930s in economic theory …, the arguments we had been using for decades until the moment of the fall of communism. The innocence with which climate alarmists and their fellow-travellers in politics and media now present and justify their ambitions to mastermind human society belongs to the same fatal conceit. To my great despair, this is not sufficiently challenged, neither in the field of social sciences, nor in the field of climatology.
I hear people all around me express their concern regarding the state of the economy, yet they appear to be ignorant of the slow erosion of their day to day freedoms with the ever increasing push toward political correctness, moral relativism, and national self-loathing.
Bush to be the Truman of our day?
By no means is any of the criticism directed toward “The One” unjustified. My primary concern is by heaping such large amounts of reprobation on him (should this be capitalized?), the risk arises of diminishing the overall message. Continuous negative discourse, though well justified (and the true Lord knows plenty of opportunities are being provided on a daily basis by the hopechangehope express), I feel provides illegitimate cover to his defenders that we are suffering from an Obama version of BDS. Maybe a little more examination of our side of the fence may be in order as found here.
