Recent admissions of extramarital affairs by Mark Sanford and John Ensign resulted in heavy media coverage and constant generalizations about Republicans’ hypocrisy concerning family values. The mainstream media’s fascination with GOP affairs is likely fueled, not by a desire to “get” Republicans, but by a worldview that makes it difficult to view those who preach conservative social values as sincere. That said, it’s fair for the media to highlight hypocrisy. I just wish the MSM applied a more bipartisan standard to hypocrisy, such as when sensitivity-preaching Democrats make racially insensitive remarks (e.g., Joe Biden), pro-labor liberals shaft their workers (e.g., Al Franken), or self-righteous greens contribute far more than their share to mankind’s carbon footprint (e.g., Al Gore). Instead, the opposite rule seems to apply: a politician’s history of liberal rhetoric is taken as evidence that no harm was intended by what would otherwise be viewed as hypocritical behavior.

The Same Rules Will Never Apply
farstar99 (Diary) Monday, June 29th at 10:13AM EST (link)…so why even bring it up, frankly?
Respectfully, this “high road” response the Republicans always fall back on is a FAILURE.
The correct response is to tell them to go to hell.
If you feel like pointing out their hypocrisy, go ahead, for all the good it will do.
They ARE out to get Republicans, it IS partisan, they ARE shills for the Democrats. Apologizing for them, giving them the “benefit of the doubt,” granting them anything, is a loser strategy.

Glass houses....
Max Venom (Diary) Sunday, June 28th at 8:19PM EST (link)Prevailing wisdom within the main-stream media is never rational, and tends to follow political leanings like Piranhas on flesh.
The media argument that somehow Republicans are more hypocritical when they stray because they are the party of traditional values is false logic. Humans seldom practice what they preach, and not just behind closed doors, or in bathroom stalls, or flying carbon laced corporate jets. Human failings do not negate causes of nobility, or make them any less noble. If the Catholic church based its success upon the pedophilia of a single priests, it would have died off long ago.
The media needs a sharp dose of reality. No one is pure, least of all politicians, and to hold them to moral standards is nothing but mere media hype. Media needs to remove its blinders… see beyond the hype.. and report the laws that were broken, if any.
