Is this a shot across the bow of the good ship U.S.S. GOP? Is Sarah trying to steer the GOP back to it’s conservative roots. Is she threatening to take her star power and SarahPAC money to third party and maybe conservative democrats running for congress in 2010? She announced she would donate, from her SarahPAC as much allowed by law to Doug Hoffman’s campaign. Is it time for the GOP’s heavy hitters to reconsider their endorsements of squishy democrat lite Republicans, whom they say are the only ones who can win in certain districts?
It’s becoming increasingly clear, that voters all across the country are disenchanted with the two major parties positioning themselves in what they think are strategic rather than principled ideals. The main stream media missed the whole message given by tea party, and town hall attendees all across the country this year. And that message was, “a pox on both your houses.” It was not a Republican movement as they would like you to believe. It was a reduce spending, taxes, and give us back our freedom movement. Republican spending went through the roof over the last 8 years and the budget deficit for 2008 was second only to that of 2009. It’s true president Bush reduced taxes, but he also increased spending at an alarming rate, angering many Conservatives in his own party.
So what is Sarah Palin up to. Maybe she’s that post partisan politician that Barack Obama said he would be, but we all know turned out not to be. Maybe her Republican loyalty is second to her conservative values. Maybe it’s time for the GOP bigwigs to listen to the grassroots tea party / town hallers, and return to the Ronald Reagan type conservatism, that doesn’t blur the line between the two parties. Could it be they have misread the reason for the their last two devastating defeats to mean they have to move more to the center? Maybe their out of control spending, and expansion of government was the real reason. Need I remind you Barack Obama positioned himself as a tax cutter for the majority of America, and a fiscal conservative, which we all came to realize was a cruel hoax.
If the Republican party continues down this path, they will watch as a major sea change slips through their ideologically vacant fingers. With most of the country fed up with government largess, and a plurality identifying themselves as conservatives, the beltway GOP continue to push a center tack, even though the number that identify themselves as Republican continues to bleed. It’s clear Sarah Palin and a few other Republicans see and understand the mood of the country. The Republican hierarchy and most GOP members of congress do not.
The democrat party’s over reaching, deficit spending and overall power grab, has given every reason for a massive power shift in 2010. But does the Republican party really know how to position themselves without bungling the opportunity. Maybe they should take a tip from the fly over country conservatives. The bitter clingers. The unsophisticated anti elitist army of American lovers. Maybe they should listen to Sarah Palin!

Shirley, you jest.
Vegas_Rick (Diary) Friday, October 30th at 6:01PM EST (link)Sarah Palin is an under educated, incompetent ex-governor, who couldn’t possibly have anything worth while to contribute as a public office holder.
At least, that’s what you’re going to hear from some commenters here.
I believe Sarah Palin’s well done, if low key, critiques of Obama’s policies, combined with her current very low profile, will soon morph into specific policy recommendations and ideas that, I believe, she will begin to present in ever more public and accessible forums.
I don’t know if she aspires to high office. But I do know she can be an effective leader of the conservative movement.

janis (Diary) Friday, October 30th at 6:12PM EST (link)Very well said. I know, as you do, all the knocks against Sarah Palin. If she does nothing else with her influence other than what she’s doing now, she will still be a very valuable voice for conservatism.
Beats the heck out of Newt, Huck, Romney, and most of the R Senators.
I keep pointing it out...she's the only one consistently scoring points on Barry...
AceInTX (Diary) Friday, October 30th at 6:22PM EST (link)and she’s embarrassed them several times by getting them to respond to her.
Those that don’t like her can say what they want…but she’s playing a masterful game so far…I’m on the fence with her….but there’s no way you can fault her tactics so far if she’s running in 12
All she does is score KOs

She doesn't need to run in 2012,
LDahl752 (Diary) Friday, October 30th at 6:58PM EST (link)as far as I’m concerned. But, we definitely need her to keep reminding the GOP old-time leaders that conservatives win — and, more importantly, they’ll be better for the country. Adding another R in Congress doesn’t automatically mean everything will be better. We don’t know that. We need conservatives who have principles and are not afraid to speak of them.

She will be a voice in the election, no doubt, but .. maybe better as part of a team…

Surely we wouldn’t catch any flak for that , would we?

The point is that whoever challenges the liberal, they’re already targets while the liberal gets a free pass. I’ll admit I’m on the fence with her should she decide to run in 2012, but right now she seems to be one of the few trying to steer the party in the right direction, while Republicans are forced to deal with the likes of Romney, Crist, Pawlenty, and McCain because we’re supposed to believe running to the center….I mean left…..is the way to take the country back.

livingfortruth Sunday, November 1st at 5:56AM EST (link)That is my dream ticket. To bad there are no men with the uhmmmssss to go against the MSM and speak plainly about what it is going to take to get us back on track. Notice also both of these women are women of faith. They don’t mind saying so.
The men of the republican party seem to metro for me. We need strong people, the ones who are not afraid to stand up to evil and push it back. John McCain is what is wrong with the Republican party. The only reason I voted for him was because Palin was on his ticket, otherwise I would have voted Constitution Party.
I believe we need the country I grew up in back. One where there was not so much infighting and a push on limited Federal government in our lives. One in which freedom was an ideal, and security was for hotels. GWBush spent to much and put a halt on gettting rid of the NEA, well both of them. Our schools are seriously behind most of the world because of liberal agendas instead of teaching agendas.

GremlinJones (Diary) Monday, November 2nd at 5:41PM EST (link)an interesting ticket, indeed!
Well, she's made a career so far of attacking and defeating Republicans,
Achance (Diary) Sunday, November 1st at 10:17AM EST (link)Democrats not so much. In fact, she governed here mostly with Democrat backing rather than Republican until the Democrats seized the opportunity to damage her when she became the VP nominee.
And I’m sure all of you who are so devoted to her and so believe in her conservatism can articulate all the conservative policies she ran for Governor on and implemented as Governor.
I’ll give her credit for being a good spokesperson and for being a very good “aginner.” Comrade Obama and the Congressional leaders give her bright shiny targets to swing at and every so often she puts one out of the part, e.g., death panels. But, she’ll have a ways to go to prove to me that she’s anything other than the opportunist she always was in Alaska politics.
In Vino Veritas
Points well taken.
azaeroprof (Diary) Sunday, November 1st at 2:14PM EST (link)She clearly positioned herself as a candidate and as Gov as a non-ideologue. I don’t think there’s any denying that. But she came of age in the Reagan era and attributes her political philosophy to him. Her conservatism is, IMHO, less intellectual and more a world view. I personally believe that her commitment to conservative principles is genuine.
We’ll see how things play out with her book tour and her activities for the 2010 campaigns.
Personally, I’ll take Sarah at her “opportunistic” worst over Obama at his best any day of the week. And unless or until some Republican emerges who generates more than 10% of the excitement she does, she’ll continue to top my list. Whether or not she ever runs for political office again.
(But I sitll love Fred, too! Wish they would team up in some way.)

Frankly, I don't believe it...
merryj1 Sunday, November 1st at 5:56PM EST (link)I’m not a true Palin fan (as a presidential candidate), but according to my daughter, I’m a sexist; she’s probably right. That aside, yes Palin “took on” some in her own party in Alaska. But first, she tried to get other Party leaders to clamp down on corruption and abuses. They wanted to play “go along and get along,” and she wouldn’t play. She did what it took to clean out some crooks, and I admire and praise her for that. “Partisanship” should stop when ethical and legal lines are crossed.
And yes, she worked with Democrats — as Governor (as opposed to candidate), that’s what she was supposed to do. If you like stark partisanship once in office, you shouldn’t have a problem with Obama. A governor and a president is obliged to work with the representatives elected by the people. Shame on the ones who don’t do that (usually, if not always, Democrats).
Art's point is that the ONLY crooks she cleaned out were Rs, no Ds
The_Gadfly (Diary) Wednesday, November 4th at 8:39AM EST (link)That doesn’t help us ADVANCE our cause. If you haven’t yet, go read his column about his work in Alaska and what she did to it. I was ambivalent* on her before I read that column, now I know she can’t lead in DC.
She talks the talk, but that’s all she can do. I don’t often say anything negative about The Gipper, but one of the places where I believe he fell short is in precisely this arena. Reversing the fascist trend of the last 100 or so years requires digging into the entrenched bureaucracy and getting rid of huge swaths of them. He didn’t do that, and neither will she. Yes, he did many other great things for us and so we don’t criticize him for this failure often. But that problem was too big to ignore by the end of the Clinton administration. Under W, it continued its typical historical growth**. Under The Big 0 its growth rate is increasing exponentially. The next President will need to have the understanding, charisma, and will to reverse it.
Yes, I’m happy to have a telegenic, positive, woman taking point in the PR war. She is actually really good at sensing the mood of the American people and articulating it in sound bites even the fringe media can’t ignore. Doing that will continue to advance conservatism. Frankly, if she were to go the Limbaugh/Hannity route, she’d probably have more positive influence over a longer period of time than she can as President.
*She believes in AGW and that’s a no-go zone for me. I am also ambivalent on the drilling price increases she backed. There are other squishy things she supports (not ones forced on her by McCain either) although I can’t recall them at the moment.
**I count the last 9 months of W as the start of The Big 0′s term in office for domestic purposes. The professional pols won’t admit to it, but at heart W was a go along to get along kind of guy. When he understood himself to have lost the domestic policy debate, he worked to implement the policies that he understood won.
Is it at all fathomable
Deskpilot (Diary) Sunday, November 1st at 10:34PM EST (link)that as AOGC commissioner who wouldn’t tolerate corruption in her party, ran to clean out her own party, and then wielded that HUGE STICK over the loyal opposition candidates and legislators to essentially say, “Play fair while I’m Governor, and your past indiscretions are kept quiet.”If the Dem legislature played fair in AK, then some, not all of her legislation passed, good quality debates ensued in public light and measures were voted on their merit with the proper and fair feedback from the electorate.
Is that such a bad thing?

The_Gadfly (Diary) Wednesday, November 4th at 8:46AM EST (link)I believe you’ve pretty much captured the mood of the country. While I have my doubts that Palin could deliver on that as President, that encapsulation alone is worth a recommendation. And there is no question about Palin’s ability to have point on the PR front.
