Herman Cain is just REAL – AND a leader!

I was privileged two weeks ago (4/28) to be included in a conference call with Mr. Cain along with several other bloggers. The last time I had spoken to Herman in person was at the Hillsborough County (Florida) Republican Party Summer Dinner Series in August of 2010, where he completely wowed an audience of die hard GOP workers.

I came away from this conversation with exactly the same impression that I had almost a year ago. This southern gentleman who would like to win your confidence as a candidate for the presidency of the United States is exactly who he appears to be. More on the content of the call in the future posts, but here is the essence of the CHARACTER of the man who has my full support in his candidacy – this essence was simply confirmed in our phone interaction last night.

  • He is a patriot who loves this country beyond measure.
  • He is a loving father and grandfather who feels COMPELLED to run – for his grandchildren.
  • He is not compelled by political gain or fame.
  • He knows he MUST do something and believes God has granted him the gifts necessary to perform in the highest office in the land.
  • He is forthright, honest and bold – a breath of fresh air in this hate-tinged, glad-handing political climate.
  • He is a problem-solver who believes that most of our economic challenges can be solved using the business model that he has been so successful with in his own career.
  • He is full of humor – a must for survival on the campaign trail and in the presidency.
  • He is a gentleman who is full of WISDOM from a life well-lived – there hasn’t been much WISDOM in DC lately.
  • He is an incredibly hard WORKER and fighter – and has never met a challenge that he has not conquered, from failing businesses that he was charged with fixing to stage 4 cancer. (the rigor of his almost-campaign schedule would put many younger people to shame)
  • He absolutely believes what he says – those that hear him know that no tele-prompter or polls are necessary to tell him what he thinks and believes.

I could go on and on – but in this post I wanted to concentrate on his Character and Work Ethic – missing commodities in many DC offices right now, including the highest one.

I hope enough people were paying attention to the debate

I’ve followed Herman for some time now and he’s so real and a great prospect for President of the USA. Great Blog

Thanks so much

I have fairly good discernment when it comes to character. I believe the young people in our country sorely need to see a man of great character in office again.

I'm sure Herman Cain is a wonderful person

but he’s not going to be the Republican nominee for President or Vice President. In fact he’s not going to place in the top 5 in Iowa or New Hampshire or South Carolina. Of course he won the debate that nobody watched and none of the major candidates participated in. When the “big boys” show up, he’ll be relegated to the sidelines. If he’s onstage with Romney, Gingrich, Pawlenty, Daniels, Paul and Bachmann, (and maybe Trump, Palin, and Huckabee), he won’t be asked more than 3 or 4 questions, compared to at least twice that number for the others. By Labor Day, his “bounce” will have disappeared, and he want even be asked to participate in the debates. Honestly, which of the candidates listed above is he going to come in ahead of in any primary. I don’t even think he can beat Trump. What do they say about where nice guys finish?

I think you're wrong about Cain's chances ... and wrong about RP

Cain would make an excellent choice for someone’s running mate. Anyone cocky enough to thinking about what they’d do if they win the nomination ought to already have him on their wish list of running mates … especially someone like Romney who would benefit from a running mate who … in contrast with Romney … is from the south and is an actual conservative.

Considering who else is currently in the field I wouldn’t count Cain out on winning the nomination. He could go head to head with any of them in a debate and do very well.

Cain didn’t win the debate because nobody watched. He won the debate because of the people who watched a _lot_ were favorably impressed. I don’t remember where I heard it … Erick’s show maybe … but even NPR picked up on Cain’s performance and played clips of him. He got people’s attention and I’d bet he’s going to continue doing that.

When the big boys show up … do you mean Romney and Trump? Trump is a clown and I’ll bet he doesn’t run … he’s getting publicity out of talking about running and I think that’s all he wants. Romney is running on name recognition fumes. Imagine the moment when Romney is put on the spot and has to defend Romneycare and Cain gets to respond. That’s one to look forward to.

I don’t follow the candidates as closely as some here. I couldn’t have told you much about Cain a week ago. Having heard him and read material from his site and from supporters and critics … I’m impressed with the way he’s positioned himself.

He’s made it clear that he’s going to focus first on the economy and tax reform and spending cuts and Obamacare … the things he thinks are our biggest problems and therefore his top priorities. That’s an agenda and common-sense approach to setting priorities that will have huge appeal to the independents in the middle. Read the brochure under the “issues” tab on his web site. At the same time he’s got solid support from SoCons and Tea Partiers. Name another current or potential candidate who has that kind of breadth of appeal.

You keep saying that you don’t support Paul … but you seem very concerned about him. Rest easy. He’s not a threat to anyone. Paul isn’t going to take support away from any other candidate. On the contrary Paul supporters are concerned about Cain because Cain talks about things like the Fair Tax and returning to the gold standard … and they’re worried that Cain could take votes away from Paul. They’re also distracted by shiny objects. Ignore them.

The big boys

He was on stage with Romney and Pawlenty at the AFP dinner in NH and won that straw poll by a wide majority – because once again in that setting he actually answered the questions. Americans have heard all the others before (some of them for years). They are EXTREMELY discontented with politics as usual. Herman Cain’s voice, presence, informed logic, and passion appeals to those who truly want to see this nation restored to greatness.

Paul and Pawlenty were BOTH at this debate and they tried to load the questions their way – and Herman forced them to pay attention – not by whining or getting emotional with sob stories – but by presenting clear concise answers in a bullet point executive style. No one knows if Palin, Bachmann, Trump (throw up) or Huckabee are going to run. Cain is already very close to Newt in their home state of Georgia.

You need to get a bigger vision for what is possible :o )

Luckily, you are wrong.
