First, congratulations to Mike Huckabee. He shined tonight. As I said earlier today, I expect Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney to beat each other to the death like two drag queens wearing the same dress at the same party.
Mike Huckabee, you did well. Now you can get some money and try to go further. You deserve the win tonight, but let's be honest. Your win was McCain's by proxy. Big loser tonight though: Ed Rollins. He imploded on Fox News. Totally imploded.
Mitt Romney, you couldn't buy Iowa. $10 million and now you're about to get spanked in New Hampshire too. Ouch. Don't worry though, Clinton made his comeback in South Carolina. You can make yours in Michigan. Your campaign was lackluster and playing the "they're all anti-mormon bigots" card got you nowhere. Bill Kristol was kind enough to shoot that one down when one of your advisor's wives raised in on Fox News.
The clear winner tonight is John McCain. He talked up Huckabee and he talked down Romney. He sat out of Iowa and still made a respectable showing in the state in fourth place as I write. He's going to get momentum in New Hampshire now and McCain now has the clearest path to victory.
Another story tonight should be that Fred Thompson gets a second chance. According to the entrance polling, late deciders broke for Huckabee and Thompson. Voters who wanted to vote for someone they trusted broke for Huckabee and Thompson. Huckabee isn't going to play well across the board. Thompson, getting late breakers with his game face on, has a second chance in South Carolina.
Big loser on the GOP side: Rudy. Sure he didn't play. But damn.
On the Democratic side: Edwards and Hillary battle it out for second place. Obama sweeps it. Hillary is actually vulnerable. Good for Obama. Ironically, this pushes the Democrats to the left with their guy. Hillary actually does have more experience than Obama.
This is really phenomenal though. Not since the early eighties have the Clintons received such a drubbing by the voters. And Bill went out of his way to campaign for her. This is a repudiation of the Clinton legacy. According to entrance polling, Obama won massively against Clinton in the 65 and under crowd.
And you know what? Women backed Obama over Clinton. So how's the identity politics working for you tonight Hillary?
Lastly, goodnight pretty boy! John Edwards, who has campaigned for the job since November 8, 2004, is out.

Sounded like a victory speech. How Clintonian.
Please, please someone stick a fork in these people.
Fred's in 4th right now?
He's back in 3rd
It looks like we won't see the numbers update until morning either. They have barely moved in the last 45 mins or so.
By getting over 10% of the vote. Romney failed to meet expectations by losing so big. I'd say Fred lives on.

She ain't done yet...she's still got money falling out of both pockets. The people who gave her that money have far too much invested in her to let this die in Iowa.
A serious blow no doubt, but not a lethal one.
Unless McCain spiked in the last twenty minutes, Fred took third, which keeps him on life support but without money and without the world's biggest con-artist as his spouse.
The discomfort of seeing a hyperventilating maniac head of the DNC saying that "this proves Democrats have more support" reminds me of why I always vote Republican. How that creep ever got to be a medical doctor shows America's health picture is in trouble.
Yeah, DodoDean, the Democrats spent four times as much as the Republicans and got twice the turnout---math skills!!!
...as the spinning from the Hillary camp intensifies. Watch out for flying lamps, lackeys and other debris.
Last seen up feces creek in New Orleans in a leaky boat without a paddle?;)
:)
Watch for Rush to take out Huckabee soon.Huckabee is not good for this country especially in the war on terror. There will be alot of people tuning in to Rush tomorrow.Huckabee is unacceptable.
DUCT TAPE ALERT! Susan Estrich on Fox News.
...is going to talk religious conservatives out of voting for Huckabee?
Talk up Ron Paul and Huckabee, the democrats must be orgasmic.

Biden & Dodd drop out. Is Richardson next???
Idiot.
You care about abortion. That is admirable. It is an important issue. It is also complicated and unlikely to be sorted out easily.
In the meantime, you would try to cripple a true conservative(Giuliani) in favor of a candidate who would lose by historic nargins(Huckahuckster) just to protect your "principle".
Beautiful.
Good luck with President Obama/Hillary, loser.
clean-up, please?
he used the name "Huckahuckster". gotta like/pity a guy who has to explain his joke.
"Lastly, goodnight pretty boy! John Edwards, who has campaigned for the job since November 8, 2004, is out."
He may eventually be out, but I think he'll put up a fight to the end. I can see him getting a lot of votes over both Hillary and Obama. There have to be plenty of Democrats who have the same terrible angst some on our side struggle with--"Do I vote to nominate the person I want, or for the person who I think can be elected?"

Good news for Huckabee and McCain is bad news for the GOP.
I don't see Rudy as a loser. He didn't waste money in a state that will have little to do with the ultimate Republican candidate. Quite frankly, having the Huckster as high as he is and Ron Paul pulling in 7% shows me that Iowa is irrelevant. Adam B.
to vote for him.

The Giuliani strategy for Florida will not only be proven correct, but will change the face of primaries next time around, rendering Iowa and New Hampshire as obsolete. I would love to see a true Super Tuesday, like a general election, where all the states vote on the same day.

that's a terrible idea.
"I would love to see a true Super Tuesday, like a general election, where all the states vote on the same day."
A perfect prescription for a one-hit-wonder to win before everything is shaken out.
"change the face of primaries next time around, rendering Iowa and New Hampshire as obsolete."
Something to be devoutly wished for. Probably would have been better if NObody had gone to Iowa except Huck.
LET'S GO WYOMING!

...that everywhere Fred has an opening there seem to be plenty of religious conservatives to clog up the doorway. He's behind Huckabee in New Hampshire where the landscape is less favorable to Huckabee, but way, way behind him in South Carolina. In Florida, Huckabee's closing on Rudy, who seems to be plotting a novel course to the nomination -- collapse. If Fred finishes well behind Huckabee in New Hampshire, which seems likely, and then loses to him in South Carolina and Florida, when, exactly is he going to make his move?
It doesn't matter that voters in Iowa turned to Huckabee and Thompson on some issues, because they appear to have turned to Huckabee in significantly greater numbers.
After reading Erick's pitch for Fred, all I could think of was how much it sounded like a reasonable path to the nomination -- for vice president (something I doubt Thompson wants very much).
