There's a battle brewing in the Senate over Jim Nussle's confirmation as director of the Office of Management and Budget. It seems Democrats, particularly Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota, want to hold up Nussle so they can grossly exceed President Bush's spending requests. We can't let that happen.
Today in the Washington Post, Conrad made his strategy clear: Democrats won't confirm Nussle until the White House relents on its threat to veto Democrat-passed appropriations bills. "We will not be setting a time for the hearing until there have been further discussions," Conrad said. That fits the definition of obstructionism.
Call Kent Conrad's offices now and tell him to stop holding up Jim Nussle's confirmation.

And that should be the 4th of July recess, which is coming up shortly. Crisis averted.
unless there is a 30-day or more vacation. But it's getting to the point where I'd be happy to see Bush stick it in the eye of the obstructionist Democrats and recess-appoint every open judicial or other slot.
OK, I agree, you can bust the budget. Approve Nussle.
Once approved, el Presedente says -- hey I lie, didn't you know that -- VETO.
but then it would actually turn out that Democrats block the appointment anyways and Bush doesn't veto (no I'm not cynical, really).

The next question is how do we raise up legitimate congressional / senatorial candidates in the Dakotas. This to me seems like THE biggest place for a gain for Republicans going forward.
Romney or Fred.
Conrad's vote for cloture on the amnesty bill. His colleague, Senator Dorgan was one of the leading critics. Conrad, on the other hand, voted the way Tom Daschle would have.
As stated above, someone needs to remind Kent Conrad he lives in a RED state!!!!!!!
Some MAJOR MAJOR grassroot efforts need to be launched in that state in particular!!

Let them obstruct all they want. Next Congressional recess, Bush can just make a recess appointment and that'll last until Jan 3 2009. I think Bush can last the final 17 days of his presidency with that office vacant.
