Here I go again — CPAC and real action

I watched Glenn Beck’s speech. Very inspiring. Then I watched George Will’s speech. Clever. Witty. Factual.

But, I did not hear either of them offer any real, practical, grass roots solutions to changing the Republican Party and, thereby, changing the outcome of the elections. Education is great. Theory is great. But “we the people” need to rediscover basic American civics. And that means going to a GOP local meeting and signing up to become a “voting member” of the Party. A “card carrying Party member,” if you will. If you don’t really know what that means, you need to.

I was not at CPAC. Wish I could have been. I would have told the audience this. Did anyone?

If we conservatives want to change the outcome of the elections, we have to change the Republican Party at the grass roots. At the precinct committeeman level.

speakers at CPAC actually were, or had ever been, “card carrying members of” the Republican Party (gosh, I sound like a reverse Joe McCarthy!). LOL!

Regardless, we have too many pontificators talking the talk and not walking the walk.

I am guilty as charged. No more. In 2008, I got the required 10 signatures from my precinct to stand for election, per statute, for the right to represent Republican and independent voters within the Republican Party as a precinct committeeman. A little over a year later I stood for election to become an “at large” member of the county GOP Executive Guidance Committee. And won, along with four other conservatives. We took all five slots.

I’m nobody special. As Steven Seagal says in the movies, “I’m just the cook.” But, now I’m in a position to actually influence how other PCs, and other “movers and shakers” in the Maricopa County GOP, think. And vote. Just by showing up and making arguments.

There is strength in numbers, and still HALF the precinct committeeman slots in Maricopa County, and in Arizona generally, are unfilled. There are about 691,000 registered Republican voters in Maricopa County who are not precinct committeemen and about 3,300 who are. and about 3,100 vacant slots. You can’t tell me that in “Goldwater Country,” among those aprrox. 691,000 registered Republicans, there aren’t 3,100 hard corps conservatives who want to “do something.” But that’s the case, apparently. I actually thing they are out there, but just don’t know what to do. So I try to get the word out to them.

Bottom line: WE NEED EVERY DARN CONSERVATIVE WHO CLAIMS TO BE A “POLITICAL ACTIVIST” to walk the walk and become a Republican Party precinct committeeman. And recruit every conservative they know to do the same.

No? Do you have a better strategy? If so, I’m all ears.

Thank you.

The only part of Glenn Beck’s speech that I found unrealistic is where he calls for some Republicans to publicly announce like Tiger Woods that they have been unfaithful and hereby repent. That ain’t gonna happen. The conservative base of the Republican party can separate the wheat from the chaff. The best conservatives need to rise to the top leadership of the Republican party instead of getting current leaders to publicly admit to their unfaithfulness.

Sorry, you didn't make it ColdWarrior..

…I was sorta hoping. You’d have presented to the mob assembled more direction than all the mutual-admiration back-patting combined.

But that has always been our side’s bane (GOP and conservative alike). The Left gathers to conspire and pass around blank checks. We gather to compare witty remarks.

But be charitable. There is a time and place for speechifying, long nods of assent and applause. That’s Beck’s job. That’s Will’s job. That’s Limbaugh’s job. That’s why, more an more, they are “planned for”…even Beck sometimes..because they really don’t move the ball down the field. Their own contracts tie them down.

You guys do. Just keep up your end of the promise. Things will work out.

I did not really get a chance to talk about it at my panel, but I did get to talk to some people about outside of my panel. Some seemed to be already doing that, and some maybe needed some more encouragement to go and do it also.

I am also going to be some some panels for the The patriot Caucus, and I will definitely get out the message at the ones I will be going to.

I would have said more at CPAC, but I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off, and our panel went in a totally different direction than I thought. I am sorry I did not get it out more at my panel

But if I were to ever get to congress, I’d hope to have some fun like Rep. Steve LaTourette did a few months ago on the floor and I’d certainly conduct myself NOT like John McCain:

I was there, and was amazed at how many people were not Republicans. Most of the college kids there were Ron Paul fans, hence his win of the straw poll. I am a registered Republican, but as another commenter stated I consider myself a Conservative first. And in case you didn’t read this,

Ladyimpact, I realize conservative does not equal Republican

ColdWarrior (Diary) Wednesday, February 24th at 3:52PM EST (link)

That’s the problem. It really ought to, especially if one takes the time to read the 2008 Platform. It’s a conservative platform.
The problem is there aren’t enough conservatives in the Party to make sure it’s followed by the Republicans who get elected.

As I’ve noted many times, on Election Day, 2008, about HALF the PC slots in the Republican Party were lacking a warm body. Over two-thirds were lacking a warm body in “Goldwater Country,” Maricopa County, AZ, where I live. We had 692,000 registered Republicans in this county who had better things to do than join the 1,000 or so conservative Republican who had become PCs — and barely outnumbered the moderates/RINOs, by 20 votes, to elect a conservative instead of a moderate chairman. There has to be, among those 692,000 “do nothings” at least 4,000 hard corps conservatives. I’ve found most of these stay-at-homes actually do go to the Tea Parties and join other groups; they just don’t know enough about basic civics to realize they could really “do something” if they attended there monthly GOP meeting and signed up to become a PC.

Well, in a year’s time, some of us here have found about 1,400 of the non-engaged, as our PC ranks have swelled to about 3,326. That kind of growth is what we need to have happen across the country. We need a full-strength party with a strong conservative majoriy. I just wish once in a while a conservative Republican with a “big microphone” could state the problem and the solution — conservatives, you’ve got to INVADE the Party where it matters — in the voting ranks, the PC ranks.

An articulation of the argument for getting involved in actual party politics at the grass roots, precinct level can certainly be made generically without reference to a party, and that’s the kind of thing “non-partisan” organizations like Campaign for Liberty, American Majority and Americans for Prosperty advocate in a non-partisan way.

Regardless, it would have been refreshing for AT LEAST ONE Republican to have made the pitch to the Republicans in the audience, and all the rest, as to why they OUGHT to unite in the Republican Party to achieve the shared goal of retiring all Dems and RINOs in the upcoming 2010 election cycle. Maybe someone did that. I sure hope so. I just haven’t heard that anyone did.

Thank you.
