L.A. Times reports on the Precinct Committeeman Strategy

Here’s the link to the story:

www.latimes.com/news/nation-and-world/la-na-tea-party15-2010feb15,0,1928212.story

Darla Dawald over at ResistNet.com, quoted in the story, has been a big promoter of the strategy there, and continues to support my efforts there, and the Strategy, at: www.resistnet.com/group/invadethegop

(I wrote about this strategy for the Tea Partiers to become politically relevant recently here at Redstate here, which seemed to be fairly well-received. Then I wrote a spoof of the GOP actually embracing the less ambitious idea of just getting registered Republicans to come into the Party as voting members of the Party here.)

Another great site is at www.precinctsolution.org.

Phil Glass (also quoted), Tony Warren and JB Williams, with whom I have collaborated, have also contributed greatly to this Strategy at:

www.nationalprecinctalliance.org

I am a big believer in the oft-quoted idea that “all politics are local” and, therefore, believe that each individual conservative can have the most impact on the outcome of the elections by becoming a precinct committeeman in the Republican Party, as I harangue all who will listen, here at Redstate and elsewhere (for example, tomorrow night I will be speaking at a local Tea Party meeting), and on my little blog at www.theprecinctproject.wordpress.com.

Time is short — it’s already too late in some states for YOU to become a ball player in the 2010 election in the real ball game of politics — party politics — as a “card-carrying party member,” a precinct committeeman.

Thank you.

How sad that the LA Times are beating the GOP....

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Monday, February 15th at 6:27AM EST (link)

at getting out the message of more involvement in one’s own party. It holds to today that the National GOP no more wants WE “little” people getting into their party politics because then they might actually have to be Conservative!

Interesting observation on the local level here.

Danielle Davis (ocleverone) (Diary) Monday, February 15th at 6:38AM EST (link)

In our last meeting, we went over the idea of a filing fee for those people who would want to run for Chair of the Committee. To me, especially in today’s economic times, the fee of $250 to run for a volunteer position was insane. It smacked of a pay to play and would discount several of the older members, on fixed incomes, to step up and run for the office.

I expressed my objections and a chorus chimed in behind.

After the meeting, several members of the Executive Committee and their buds talked about the “undercurrent” – it made them nervous.

The point of this story is that sometimes, all is needed is that first voice and others will follow.

To me, “consensus” seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects … There are still people in my party who believe in “consensus” politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors … I mean it. — Margaret Thatcher

I'm not sure the GOP WANTS the little people involved...

Look at how we’re messing up their Country Club.net shoving conservatives to the forefront and messing up their pecking order.

certainly a portion of the GOP wants no part of you

One quibble. It’s not too late to become a Precinct Committeeman in Illinois, but it is too late to be elected as a PC. Your country GOP chairman can appoint* any resident of the county to fill any open precinct slot in the county. I urge everyone in Illinois to contact their local GOP and volunteer. They will most likely be thrilled to have you.

*An appointed PC can’t vote for their county chairman and I believe cannot vote for their state district committeeman, but otherwise you get all the inside party information, can get involved in local party operations and most important, you get to meet and talk to the people who are currently controlling the local party and many elected officials. You’ll be surprised at the “butterfly effect” inflience you can have. For example, this past Saturday I was at a small (about 80 people) breakfast gathering that included a US congressman (Aaron Schock), hopefully our next governor Bill Brady, (we’ll find out tomarrow), the next lt. Gov Jason Plumber, several state representatives, the state delegate to the RNC (Demetra Demonte), most of our county board, 2 circuit judge candidates, the local sheriff, the local States attorney, 2 sitting judges, the city council and mayors of several communities, etc. All of these people get a chance to meet me. (Yes I phrased it that way on purpose).

While single contacts with the elected officials don’t mean much, they do start to recognize you. If you are the person who they see at all the political gatherings, they are more likely to remember your name when you call their office or write to them or stand up at the county board meeting or…. It may not be ideal. but the reality is that PC’s get a little more attention from the people they know and meet as a result of their position than just some schmo off the street. Not MUCH more influence, but it’s some.

The Butterfly Effect is small, but real. Use it!

Brian, agreed, go to the local GOP meetings -- and Chris Simcox has endorsed J.D. Hayworth

ColdWarrior (Diary) Monday, February 15th at 2:02PM EST (link)

I agree completely with Brian that we should encourage conservatives to get to their local GOP meetings to volunteer, “learn the ropes,” and learn who the conservatives and moderates are in the local Party organization. If all the PC slots are filled, help a conservative PC in your precinct. If it’s too late in your state’s election cycle, if interim appointments are allowed, seek to get appointed. Bottom line: show up for the meetings, read the bylaws, learn the rules of the game in your state and county.

I just got back from J.D. Hayworth’s campaign kick-off announcement rally. J.D. introduced Chris near the end of his announcement speech, and Chris explained that he was ending his campaign and would throw his support to, and campaign for, J.D.

JadedByPolitics (Diary) Wednesday, February 17th at 6:44PM EST (link)

Jeri Thompson to ask that she and Fred talk about his on their radio show and I have tweeted Hannity and Levin and I think anyone who reads this should do the same because I hear people call their shows asking what to do and all I hear is VOTE….well DUH that is the obvious the Committeeman Project is something TO DO to effect whom you VOTE for!! Get with the program people :)

Jaded, thanks so much. You may recall "Susan in Glendale's" call to Rush

ColdWarrior (Diary) Wednesday, February 17th at 7:41PM EST (link)

I wrote about it here. I was able to track her down — and recruited her. She had no clue about how to really make a change to the Republican Party. She’s now a PC in Glendale, CA, has a website, www.susaninglendale.com, has appeared on Breittbart’s BCast where she talked about becoming a PC three times in one interview, she’s a columnist at BigGovernment and for another publication, and she’s just generally on fire. And she’s recruiting conservatives to become PCs.

Remember “The Letter” by Janet Contreras that Glenn Beck read on his radio program and then on his TV program. Well, when I heard Janet say at the end she was from Phoenix, and a registered Republican, I immediately got in touch with Rob Haney, our County Chairman, and the Chairman of the Legislative District where she lived (tracked down her address using Yahoo). We recruited her to become a PC. Now, she’s running for Congress in hopes of unseating the incumbent liberal Debtocrat.

I wrote about Susan in Glendale’s call to Rush here

I wrote about Janet’s recruitment here at Redstate and here is here web site: http://www.vote4janet.com/

I have written to Sarah Palin about the need to tell conservative audiences about the Precinct Committeeman Strategy and also have sent emails to Hannity, Levin, Beck, Rush, etc. I’ve been on the radio a few times here locally.

And now it sounds like Sarah Palin is starting to lay out very carefully to the Tea Partiers that they need to “pick a party” and get into into it, as Moe Lane has reported here:

http://www.redstate.com/moe_lane/2010/02/17/the-partisan-hack-agrees-with-the-gop-shill-agreeing-with-that-woman/

I just wish she’d lay out in her answers briefly that the tea partiers could REALLY become politically relevant by becoming precinct committeemen, because PCs get to vote for the leadership of the party and are in the best position to make sure the voters get to the polls to vote, in the all-important, traditionally-very-low-turnout primary elections, for the best conservative candidates. And explaining the fact that if they’d get to their local GOP meeting they’d probably find, aw gee, aw shucks, that about half these PC slots are, by golly, VACANT and, therefore, do the math, aw gee, aw golly, the PARTY IS THERE FOR THE TAKING.

Sometimes you just have to hammer away at the obvious: it’s all about making sure conservatives get on the general election ballot, and to do that conservatives have to win the primary election, and the best way to ensure that outcome is by becoming a precinct committeeman. And if you have a majority of conservatives in the PC ranks it’s likely you’ll end up with conservatives in the elected leadership positions.

Thank you.

New Precinct Chairman

bonkey Thursday, February 18th at 3:59PM EST (link)

I was encouraged to get involved. My area is growing, and the growth had caused the precincts in my area to be split. So, there are tons of precincts without a precinct chair. I filed and won my precinct (ran unopposed), but there are still lot’s of empty precincts in Texas.

You can still register and be appointed if there is no one serving your precinct, so just because you missed the deadline for the ballot, don’t let that stop you if you want to serve and your precinct has no chair.

Congratulations!
