You know, one of the worst qualities one can have is the need to apologize for everything. To me that signals a sense that a person lacks a clear coherent world view, in short, their more likely to turn the other way when adversaries partake in acts of provocation than they are to halt those actions. At a town hall meeting in France Barack Obama played the role of apologist. He apologized for what he called “America’s arrogance” toward our European allies. Now, correct me if I’m wrong but since when did standing up to terrorism and rogue nations, at the behest of your allies who despite getting hit more often and harder than us would simply play the “see no evil, hear no evil” game when it comes to terrorism and radical Islam?
Lest the Europeans forget some 76 years ago a man by the name of Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany, and from then on he sought the domination of the entire continent of Europe; and almost succeeded in doing so. But if not for the United States, without a doubt every European right now would be speaking German instead of their individual native tongue. And so we fast forward to the 1980s, when U.S. president Ronald Wilson Reagan, despite being labeled as a war monger by American media outlets and journalists, stood up to the Soviet Union and drew the line in the sand. Reagan didn’t apologize for his world view, or his enduring support of liberty and freedom for all people. Obama is essentially apologizing for America’s very existence.
You see America was founded on the idea that free men could strive to be the very best, and achieve great things in life, without the shadow of a foreign empire or centralized federal power blocking out the sun. Our very nature is to defend our values and our principles and to promote freedom around the world. Now we call that heroic and just, some call that arrogance. I guess it depends on who you ask. So why don’t we ask the Georgians, the Czechs, the Ukrainians, the Iraqis, the Armenians, the Africans, the Israelis, the Afghans, and others who were given freedom for the price of not their blood, but the blood and tears of the American Military. They will see their sons and daughters free and in peace, thanks to ours who gave their lives for a cause greater than themselves.
So no, I don’t call that arrogance or derisiveness, I call that heroism, I call that defending truth and justice wherever it may be threatened by totalitarianism and tyranny. We cannot apologize for the defeat of tyrannies and dictatorships. I don’t care what the French have to say about it, of all people surely they appreciate the sacrifice of the American Military; who liberated Paris from the Nazis during World War II. But why remind them of such events, it’s only their freedom, it’s only their lives that were at stake when Hitler’s Nazism spread across Europe.
But again, Obama’s not one who understands history, because he doesn’t appreciate America. He’s more in line with the world view, or lack there of, of the Europeans. So what can we do to remind our “president” that America, despite our mistakes and yes we all make mistakes, America isn’t immune to mistakes nor are we the only country that makes mistakes, but despite all of that, and despite this empty suit elite from South Chicago playing president, we’re still the last best hope on earth.
And for that, I will not apologize.

They just want everyone to like them, so they sell themselves out to everyone, standing for nothing, agreeing with everything. And that is what our dear POTUS has done. I was stunned when President Obama was talking this country down. But yes I know he has this need of being liked.
When I was in school during cold war days (Reagan days I must say), India had a tilt towards Soviet Union. My Teacher (big fan of Reagan) once spent a lot of time(couple of weeks) explaining to us why communism and socialism was wrong. What makes America different? How America saved Europe from itself? Why ideology of appeasement and welfare is dangerous? Why we must fight for liberty? How liberty leads to empowerment? This was happening 26 years ago in a local school of a small town thousands of miles away. I wonder how this country came so far to the left especially after experiencing FDR and Jimmy Carter. I guess every quarter century folks tend to forget the lessons of history and go through the painful process of relearning the basics.
PS: If I have hurt anybody’s feelings I apologize.

Like versus respect
drealoth (Diary) Monday, April 6th at 5:05PM EST (link)I have always been somewhat torn between the left and the right wing, so to preface this I don’t really consider myself a Republican or a Democrat – a perplexed observer, let’s say. So this is coming from that middle of the road point of view.
America shouldn’t want to be liked. America should strive to be respected, to be listened to, but it should not strive to be liked. As the biggest, most powerful country in the world, her leaders have had to, and will continue to have to make some very uncomfortable decisions. We live in an angry world with limited resources. Signatures will determine who lives and who dies, who gets food and who doesn’t. When it comes to making those decisions, you don’t want a nice person in charge. You want an intelligent person, a person with strong moral resolution and long term foresight.
I cannot claim to be a huge fan of Bush. Things like the PATRIOT Act made me – indeed still make me – incredibly uncomfortable. Yet I think that more so than nearly any other president, he was a man of principles. He was willing to make these uncomfortable choices, these choices where there was no right answer and it wasn’t clear what the lesser of two evils was, regardless of whether that would make him liked. He has been likened to Hitler, insulted constantly on television and was one of the least popular presidents ever, but I think that is very much a testament to his willingness to do what he thought was the right thing, and not push it off for someone else to figure out or do something that would make him popular. So while I do not like Bush, I certainly respect him and think that many leaders have a lot to learn from him. I have not fully formed an opinion of our new president, but although time will tell for sure, I think that this may be his biggest flaw. He seems often too concerned with being liked by the whole world that he risks losing their respect.
I am a supporter of the Canadian Green Party, but forgot to mention that when I came here to troll around.

Obama's Arrogant Statement
passerby25 Wednesday, April 8th at 2:23PM EST (link)I think the whole issue about “Obama calling us arrogant” is taken out of Context. Obama said in the speech, right after the “Arrogant” remark:
““But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual, but can also be insidious. Instead of recognising the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what is bad. ”
So, what Obama was saying was: America has done things it shouldn’t have in the past, and we have been arrogant about it, but Europe (and much of the rest of the world) refuses to accept many of the good things about it, and instead, hate us instead of trying to be cooperative neighbors.
What he said, if you ask me, was thoughtful, reasonable, and not too far out. He wasn’t saying that we, as a nation, are arrogant, just that some of our past actions have been, but that both sides need to recognize the good in each other and come together for our common good.
That doesen’t sound too bad to me, and if you really don’t think America has exercised poor judgment without thinking about the broader global picture, then that’s just arrogant.
I respectfully disagree…
Whatever you say passerby...

Who will be the last to be apologized to?
jeepnpat1 (Diary) Wednesday, April 8th at 5:44PM EST (link)What I am afraid of is that the last people on the list to be apologized to from not only this administration but much of Washington DC elites is the American People themselves. The likes of Pelosi, Reid, Franks, Dodd and so on and so forth will always blame someone else and inject of right-wing conspiracies to denigrate their character. However, they will never own up to their responsibilities and apologize to the American people for what they have done and continue to do. Obama is of the same cut that he feels Americans (only 50% voted for him) want him to apologize to other countries. However, I don’t think I would feel very moved if he apologized to us anyway as I feel he wouldn’t really mean it.
