I Told You Red Staters I was Right, And I Am

I don’t know what it will take to show my brothers and sisters in arms here at Red State that our only chance to halt this march to socialism is through Sarah Palin. Trust me on this, I’ve written about her since her 2007 interview with Glen Beck. She is, though the campaign has long since been over, a serious threat to decades of liberalism in America. Now, I don’t give two squats of hoot what you so called conservative minds have to say about the woman, she scares the left, and I venture to say, she has a lot of you shaken because she shakes up the right wing establishment that many of you have grown accustomed to.

On Hardball David Corn of Mother Jones Magazine and Lois Romano of the Washington Decompose seem to have this condescending reaction to the speech in Alaska where Sarah Palin talked about how she had no one to pray with in the McCain campaign. They passed her off as some out of this world alien who, omg! still prays to a higher power. I mean, know one prays anymore, at least no one inside the beltway.

But like Chris Matthews said, Palin knows she’s being underestimated by her own party and by the left. And I ask, if this woman is so dumb, and so empty headed, then why is there a knee jerk reaction to her very existence? Why does the left pounce on command whenever she’s doing something in Alaska? Why is the left spending millions going after her for bogus ethics violations? They’re doing it because they are scared to death of this little forty something year old woman. But in that little frame is a big heart and a link to the past. She represents the principles of our founding, of our very nature as Americans. We all know the left long abandoned the principles of classic liberalism for a more euro style modern progressivism. When they see a woman who isn’t bitter, who doesn’t hate men, who never used her femininity as a means to an end or a weapon of choice, that’s a slap in the face of the most destructive and failed movement in human history, the feminist movement.

They know, and they understand what’s going on out there in what they call “the land of isolation” Places like Alaska, Utah, North and South Dakota, where people aren’t blessed with high priced cars and a VIP pass to the biggest dinner parties in DC and New York. Those folks are nothing like Barack Obama, and exactly like Sarah Palin; and the left gets angry at the very thought of this hockey mom moving in on their turf. But she doesn’t use code words or identity politics, and she doesn’t wage class warfare to get their vote. All she has to do is talk, and instantly they realize she’s one of them. She speaks the language of a majority that has long been forgotten and exploited by Democrats.

I don’t know about any of you but I’m ready to commit. I’ve gotten together with former Hillary supporters and libertarians and we’re forming a Pro-Palin group that we hope will gain millions of members by 2012. I’m telling we get it, we know she’s our only chance to end this assault on free markets, capitalism, and our liberty. For all of you too afraid to get on board because of whatever reason, either you join us or you’ll get hit by the bullet train baby.

Sarah Palin may be our next candidate, or not. We won’t know for another couple of years.

But she isn’t the only person who can bring back the party.

It’s just the opposite. They view the idea of Sarah Palin at the top of the GOP ticket in 2012 as almost too much to wish for and they are right to feel that way. I know that the implications of that aren’t popular on Redstate and I’m sure that if there are any replies to this post at all, they will be hostile, but it doesn’t change the truth.

Which is fine, but not anything to base an opinion on. Let’s put it this way. The Big Left – the media, the unions, the Dem Party — who are they going out of their way to vilify? Only targets that they deem to be dangerous.

Rush became the target of a prolonged, coordinated assault this winter. Why would they bother going after Roger Hedgecock, Mark Davis, Tom Sullivan, and so on (great guys, all)?

For high profile GOP 2012 names, have you heard the left take after Tim Pawlenty at all? Crist? Or for that matter, Jeb Bush? Nah, why bother. They spend all their vitriol on Palin and Jindal. Why?

I’ll let you guess why.

It’s all up to her…She has all the media coverage in her hands if she wishes to rehabilitate her national image.

I really have no idea if they are underestimating her or not. My own personal view of Sarah Palin is neutral to slightly negative. I hope that she doesn’t win the nomination but if she does, I hope that you’re right and that people really are underestimating her. But my own opinion is that she will never be able to make the sale to the middle 30% of the electorate. In any event, what you say is right; she has almost 4 years to reinvent herself and she’s certainly not going to have any trouble getting media coverage. If she’s as good as some of you think she is, that will certainly work to her advantage.

At least from my own little cubby-hole of the Left. I had, perhaps, a two minute “oh crap” moment when it turned out it was Governor Palin and not Governor Pawlenty. That was it. I saw the effect she had on a lot of people you guys call “squishes” and I realized then that she simply wasn’t a threat to my side of the aisle.

I’m not the only one I know who feels this way. Pretty much every liberal friend I’ve got wants her to be your next nominee. Literally every “Obamacan” I know hopes she won’t be because they’d like to go back to voting for conservatives again.

You guys are entitled to your own views of your leaders. I do not question that, nor do I criticize it. What baffles me is this insistence that somehow the rank and file of the Left is scared of Sarah Palin. We are not. We’ve seen what she does to moderates and it is only to our benefit, not yours.

Support whomever you like, but this insistence that resistance to Governor Palin is borne of fear is faulty logic. The only thing that scares the Left about Governor Palin is the idea of her as our president. That possibility is seen by pretty much everyone I know as a laughable and unlikely event. There were a hundred times I wanted to write about this in the last six months, but it just never made sense to say it. I’m one of your resident liberals and nobody wanted to hear anything like that at the time.

You guys are wrong if you think the Left is afraid of Governor Palin. The only risk she EVER posed was to maybe peel off Hillary Clinton supporters. That simply did not happen. Perhaps she can gain in stature and in her polling. She’s certainly capable and she’s got time to do exactly that. But at the moment I can think of literally no candidate I find less threatening in 2012, and that’s the truth.

*Sure* you guys don't fear her.

And conflating the two, no matter how satisfying, does you no favors in achieving your policy goals. You are misinterpreting what you see. Many of you consider Governor Palin formidable, therefore she must be, therefore anyone else’s views of her must first assume that she is formidable.

Fear requires a belief that someone or something can cause harm. Pretty much everybody I know on the Left considers Governor Palin remarkably incapable of harming our agenda(s). Whatever “fear” there was passed rather quickly.

You could well be right that the institutional Left fears her. I cannot speak for them, nor would I care to do so. All I know is there are several people in my life who voted for a Democrat for the first time in a presidential race specifically because of Governor Palin being on the ticket. That’s how she won in Alaska, from what parts of her debate with her Democrat and Republican opponents I have seen. Couric and Gibson and SNL (if they are still around) can ride the pine with the rest of them next time!

I also saw her State of the State address this year. It was concise and no-nonsense. She addressed Alaskan issues –and her administration’s solutions– in a way that someone who had never been to Alaska could understand.

If she makes the most sense as potential President, put her on the top of the ticket. If she makes the most sense as VP put her in the second spot on the ticket.

The process of nomination is good, and I think she is capable of handling that entire process. There will be plenty of consequences to Obama’s actions (read: failures) to illustrate in the next few years. Every last one of them should be indefensible, and the Republican party should blast them relentlessly. I have no doubt Governor Palin will be up to the task.

But, I did not believe that you said anything that was over the top or out of line. Sarah came to the Tidewater area, Va. and that crowd here was a fired up base-the numbers were not because of McCain. Many low key conservatives and Republicans came alive when Sarah joined the ticket.

To me, she represented core beliefs of what I see as the backbone of the country. We were obviously desperate to hear something that her message had to offer. Regardless of who our 2012 candidate is, and I hope that we will have a robust party with strong choices, she earned my respect to have even attempted to help the party and put up with the incredible abuse that was heaped on her and her family.

I’ve pointed out before that worrying about 2012 now is a waste of time. I’ve also stated before, as EPU is pointing out here, that there are several possibilities. Stop worrying about 2012 and worry about the here and now. If you take care of now, you take care of the future at the same time because the right leader will emerge when the time comes, if we do what we should be doing right now.

We got hung up on Romney, McCain, and some others during the primaries for ’08 because of the media. Let’s not make the same mistakes again, okay? If the media is focusing on Palin, they’re doing that so we stayed focused on Palin, positive or negative. They don’t care which as long as we’re not paying attention to the here and now.

If they (the left) have their way, we won’t even have elections after Obama, considering how they’re erasing the Constitution step by step.

thinking about our core beliefs and then forming a plan to stopObama/Reid/Pelosi. Conservatism is not based on some charismatic leader that we personally are devoted to (hmm, sounds like Obama and all the dolts). And if I may be brutally honest too, Palin is not some kind of charismatic leader, she is different and new, but she does not blow the average Repub away.

No, Clark, she not the *only* hope.

Josh Painter (Diary) Tuesday, March 31st at 2:10PM EST (link)

She’s one of a number of possible hopes. Some of us think that she will be our best hope. Others think Jindal will be our best hope. Some others think the best hope will be Mark Sanford. Many are waiting to see how it all shakes out before they decide who the best hope will be.

The problem is that you are making statements about Gov. Palin which are outrageous and indefensible. As a staunch Palin supporter, I believe that you are hurting her furture national political prospects more than you are helping them. You are doing exactly what I would expect a “Palin moby” to do – pretending to be a starry-eye Sarah worshipper and making it seem that all Palin supporters are whack jobs.

Please stop it! If you can’t make a reasoned argument for Gov. Palin without sounding like you’re divorced from reality, for Pete’s sake find some other use for your time. Collect stamps, build model airplanes, take up fly fishing – anything but posting the nonsense you have been posting on this site.

Serious Sarah Palin supporters would appreciate it.

Accusing us of not being conservatives or implying that we would prefer the “right wing establishment” is to ignore about 90% of the diaries and front page articles that are published here daily.

If you can’t stand any amount of criticism for your opinions on Governor Palin, then why don’t you write about something else? Your diaries about conservatism were excellent and you will notice that you got lots of recommends for them. The fact that you aren’t getting them for these diaries on Gov. Palin should tell you that something is not right with them. It’s your worshipful attitude in time when we are so critical of the left for doing this same thing. Once again, we are not the left who base their views on their feelings. We base our views on reason and intellect.

If Gov. Palin’s political acumen bears fruit in the next three years, well and good. If not, then there are others, perhaps not even identified or known yet, who can rise to apply for the job.

The kind of stuff that comes from people that are very young (or potentially 30′s/40′s but here-to-fore been asleep at the switch) and just had their first awake, aware, alert, Election Cycle…. Many have already said, these folks often fall into Cult Of Personality attraction to some candidate – which seems to be the obvious case here – rather than deep values/convictions that they then seek out, in any/every Election cycle, who best “fits” those values/principles. These types of Voters/Supporters are NOT reliable in the long run, because if their Anointed One doesn’t rise to immediate Power (Perot awoke many from a slumber, and when self-destructed many of) those folks go back to sleep rather than look for others that espoused the values that the particular “Person” got through to them about.

I like Sarah, have always said so…. though I will support any Candidate that has the right Values/Principles!

If Sarah Palin can make a difference in Alaska in the next 3 years, then you have my support.

But first, you need to help Sarah in reuniting with her fellow Republicans in Alaska and make a good case for Alaska in terms of economy.

If Sarah’s leadership/governance in Alaska becomes successful, then the rest of the conservatives will rally with her come 2012.

Yeah, show me some gas line or anything

Question: are you expecting to receive coherent answers in your diary, or do you just like the fireworks? Is there a purpose to this diary, or are you writing it “just because”?

Let me tell you, from where I’m standing, you’ve written 3 diaries with absolutely no links, facts, or anything apart from your opinion and emotions concerning the Gov., and libeled anyone with a contrary opinion as an “establishment Republican”, a “Romney supporter” (???), afraid, and insinuated that they are not “true conservatives”, whatever that means. When people comment to leave you constructive criticism, you respond by saying, in effect, “It’s not me that’s the problem, it’s you!”, and lumping Redstaters together as one homogeneous (and apparently unenlightened) mass. And you wonder why you’re getting so many negative responses.

I’m going to say this right now: I have yet to see an “establishment Republican” post on any of your three threads, and precious few Romney supporters have posted on this thread. Most of the criticisms of your posts have been courteous, and have expressed why they think that your diaries have been deficient. In fact, most of the commentators are Palin supporters! So in the spirit of camaraderie, I suggest the following:

1) Please, be more courteous, and keep your blog posts positive. If you don’t have anything good to say about Redstaters, then don’t say anything at all!

2) Don’t make your next blog post about Sarah Palin. At this point, even if it was the most informative, logical, and persuasive post about her anyone’s ever read, tensions are high, and it’s not the right time.

3) On the flip side of that coin, please write a blog post at some point detailing specific reasons why you support Sarah Palin, using facts and sources. I guarantee you, if it’s factual and well-researched, it will be received positively, if not enthusiastically, by most.

If you do those things, I’m certain that your credibility with the Redstate community will improve.

What you’re doing right now isn’t working. When even Gov. Palin’s most ardent supporters *cough*Josh Painter*cough* :) think that you’re loopy, it might behoove you to reassess your writing strategy. Certainly, you can write things that the Redstate community is receptive to; your highly recommended diaries on conservatism attest to that. So please, don’t make the mistake of believing that you are better than the rest of the Redstate community, and that everyone who disagrees with you either “doesn’t get it”, or is otherwise evil/stupid. That’s a tactic used by the left that you don’t want to incorporate into your own argumentation.

The act of defending any of the cardinal virtues has today all the exhilaration of a vice – G.K. Chesterton

Listen to some very sage advice….STOP THIS! There are plenty of Sarah Palin lovers on this site but YOU make US look STUID with your INANE diaries! You are NOT benefiting her so again STOP THIS!

If you find you have nothing else to diary about sit on your hands and watch TV because you have lost total self control. I chose not to say anything on your diary the other day BUT at some point even those of us who gave IMMENSE support to McCain after her choice have to step in and tell you GET SOME HELP! 2012 is so far away and you are blowing energy on Palin when you should be diverting it to the 2010 elections…..If we take back the House with a large majority WE STOP The Imitation Christ in his TRACKS! get focused because it is apparent your priorities are a tad askew.

"does himself no good"? Well, that depends. Most growth occurs as a result of

mistakes. Take Mike DeVine, for example. Would I be as zealous and effective an advocate for conservatism if i had been a silent wallflower raised in a republican orthodox home taking it all for granted?

no, I think not

Here is what one has to do when evaluating talent. Sports analogy.

Some people are solid, dependable players. Others can run a 4.4 forty, but are less dependable.

Teams that win have 4,4 forty guys, many of whom are improved in their dependability via patient training.

Whereas many dependable players can never reach a winning level no matter the practice.

Clark has the gift.

So does a gal I know named ByPolitics. But sometimes our Jaded savant goes off the deep end. We indulge her due to her gifts that make her great, if not always good.
