Thank you Rep. Bachmann for putting Timothy “tax cheat” Geithner in his place and for reminding this country that there is in fact a Constitution that we are answerable to:

GEITHNER: Every action that the Treasury and the Fed and the FDIC is — is — has been using authority granted by this body — by this body, the Congress.
BACHMANN: And by — in the Constitution, what could you point to?
GEITHNER: Under the laws of the land, of course.
You will no doubt be made fun of in the days and weeks ahead for daring to refer to the Constitution and to embrace it above Marxism. Keith Olbermann’s head will explode, Chris Matthews will foam at the mouth and the folks over at DailyKos and the Huffington Post will call you names and photo shop pictures of you.
Just remember that the folks who crafted that Constitution in the early days of our nation were scoffed at too.
Just remember that all who stand for liberty, freedom and American exceptionalism will face the wrath of the liberal socialist army of His Royal Highness, the Lord B. Hussein Obama I.
We are currently watching the fire-bombing of the “shining city on a hill” by radicals and communists. Thankfully, according to our beloved Homeland Security Secretary/evil troll Janet Napolitano, we can now call any such acts of terrorism simply “man-made or man-caused disasters.” That sums up the Obama Administration thus far: a man-made disaster.
We need more patriots like Michelle Bachmann to stand up to tyranny and protect the liberty of our country before it is taxed, regulated, confiscated, capped, traded, re-defined, and completely destroyed by the rabid teleprompter-addicted socialist nutcase occupying the Oval Office. Sorry, I know “he didn’t use a teleprompter” last night. It was just a giant television with the scrolling text of his speech and answers to his pre-selected questions, which I understand is a totally different animal.

Not only did the Representative do a great job in the hearing yesterday, she did a great job articulating her defense of the Constitution during Hannity’s radio show today.
The opposition may be trying to overwhelm us with a blizzard of initiatives and constant attacks in the press. With leaders like Rep. Bachmann in the House, we can take courage and go out on our own to help beat back the attack in our neighborhoods and at the grass roots.

First, I have seen much worse on RS. In late November there was an entire front page open thread dedicated to cleavage.
Second, Achance routinely points out how important attractiveness is to success in politics.
Third, women in general give sincere compliments to other women only if they consider them allies. If mto1s wanted to be insulting she would have put a “but” in her line. If Rep. Bachmann rises to national prominence, watch for women in particular to try to drag her down. Her good looks will add fuel to the hate fire.

Now, is it trite to say someone is pretty? Or handsome? I think not. I’ll cite C.S. Lewis in his tome, “The Abolition of Man.” Objects, things (like the sublime waterfall Lewis mentions in his book), and people can have objective value in and of themselves. Our response to them is not purely subjective. In fact, it is a response to an objectively existing truth. To say someone is pretty is an act of appreciating something good. Saying so is not a frivolous statement, no more than saying a “sunset is beautiful” is a frivolous statement. I think Mother Teresa was beautiful even in her aged, wrinkled skin. Her goodness was what was so attractive to look at . . . you just don’t see that every day.
Finally, in my opinion, it was the radical feminists who over time have very effectively demonized the simple statement, “you are pretty,” as trite and demeaning. I reject their warped view of human relationships and civility. I hold the door open for ladies, even when I’ve been told in places like Madison, WI that, “I can get that myself.” I simply say, “But it was my pleasure to do it for you.” I also like to tell my wife that she’s pretty . . . and beautiful . . . and how much I like to simply look at her. And, Rep. Bachmann? She looks very nice in her photo . . . kind looking . . . smart . . . and yes, pretty too.

I’ve seen her on t.v. and heard her on the radio, and have been delighted at how she comes across. No one should be judged by their looks, but human nature does figure into this and appearance counts. But, like Mailloux notes, there was “great beauty” in the “lined and wrinkled” face of Mother Teresa.

Also, a closer look at the first paragraph would show you that I referenced her statement on the constitution in an exchange with Timothy Geithner. A logical assumption on anyone’s part would be that this blog is talking about that. So I’m not sure how anyone could be so confused by it.
My only intention was to thank Michelle Bachmann for standing up to the socialists running the country. I don’t appreciate being attacked by people. It was a wrong assumption on my part that everyone heard the story yesterday, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask to not be treated like an idiot.
Our country is going down the toilet, we need every conservative voice out there doing their part to stop this nonsense not attacking each other over trivial nonsense liking attacking people for their blogs.

I knew what exchange you were talking about, because I caught it on talk radio yesterday, and Rep. Bachmann was probably on talk radio and Fox news because of her grilling of Geithner, the day before.
They want the links to aid in support of the diaries written. Gamecock ( who doesn’t need my defense) is usually a good bird. Then, the thread fell off the track…and energy was spent discussing something worthwhile, but taking away from the impact of your work.
Lord knows when I’ll be able to write a diary-knowledge deficit for linking affects me. But I do appreciate the excellent thinking and writing that I see on Redstate.

It did not describe the exchange and the link was to a January story. There is still no link to the transcript, but given that City’ did now include the exchange that she was congratulating Bachman fo, I have recommended and wholeheatedly agree with Bachman, as usual.
City’ has proven a fine student.

I have always LIKED Bachman. I just want to know what the hell you all are talking about; want to prod you to write clearly and not require guessing and/or having to listen to lengthy videos to get your point (in other words, make your damn point in the body of the column); and my ongoing war against name calling at Redstate that would mean that I am defending you!

The Geithner exchange with Rep. Bachmann occurred Tues. March 24th during his testimony regarding his request for broadening the Treasury’s powers beyond just taking over failing banks. Bachmann asked him “where in the Constitution…”

GEITHNER: Oh, well, the — the Congress legislated in the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act a range of very important new authorities.
BACHMANN: Sir, in the Constitution. What — what in the Constitution could you point to to — to give authority to the Treasury for the extraordinary actions that have been taken?
GEITHNER: Every action that the Treasury and the Fed and the FDIC is — is — has been using authority granted by this body — by this body, the Congress.
BACHMANN: And by — in the Constitution, what could you point to?
GEITHNER: Under the laws of the land, of course.
I appreciate the fact that in the era of government growth beyond control, Rep. Bachmann was trying (unsuccessfully) to get Geithner to harken back to the Constitution for authority. Given that everyone else on the committee pretty much just made out with Geithner instead of asking any hard questions, I liked that she made him squirm. She was also on Sean Hannity, but I did not hear the entire exchange on that.

Chops Friday, March 27th at 8:21PM EST (link)In Article 1, Section 1, the Constitution allows Congress to legislate. Congress, as per that article, legislated the TARP funds and authorized the Department of the Treasury to be responsible for those funds.
They couldn’t directly answer the question because the question simply didn’t make sense. It’s like asking a police officer what part of the Constitution allows him to ticket a driver for speeding.

Technically, there’s no provision in the Constitution that specifically dictates that a police officer can ticket a driver for speeding. However, there are provisions in the Constitution that allow State legislatures to create laws which are enforceable by local police officers. and also allows them to set punishment for breaking those laws, as long as the those laws and punishments aren’t unconstitutional.
