What happened to the NH GOP Chair

Now America has learned that the NH GOP Chair Jack Kimball resigned before he had to face removal from the NH GOP Executive Committee. This is kind of sad for me personally because Jack Kimball was the first State GOP Chair I got to vote for since answering the call from Coldwarrior to be voting member of the party.

Let me tell you about the Job as NH GOP Chair. First the State party and the Chair have to demonstrate neutrality in all primary races. No incumbent picks, no money for incumbents, no Presidential Primary picks zero ,zip, nada. It is a full time volunteer position which requires the individual to pay out of pocket for expenses related to the job. Unfortunately this shrinks the applicant pool and often we end up with people often not suited for the position. The NH GOP has had 7 Chairmen in the last eleven years.

I voted for Jack Kimball for the reason I thought he was going to be a good spokesman for the NH GOP and rhetorically  “take it ” to Democrats. I really thought by him being State Party Chair he was going to be the guy who was going to bring back those conservatives who bolted the party back in the Bush days. Unfortunately the latest party registration numbers released by the Secretary of State this year show virtually no change in Republican Registration in NH. On top of that Jack Kimball’s push back against the Democrats through press releases has been ineffective at least some would say non existent.

The beginning of the end for Jack Kimball came when he was photographed signing a petition from the Libertarian party for full ballot access for their candidates. If “Joe voter” signs a petition like this fine, but a Republican State Party Chairman should not be doing this. All this while tid bits of the Parties finances were hitting all the local leak sheets. When you are the Chair , the organization comes first.

The media wants everybody to believe this is battle of Tea Party vs Establishment because Jack Kimball came from a Tea Party organization. The Party neutrality rules don’t give “the establishment” any more of an advantage than any new members of the party. This shows the media will do everything possible to divide the GOP ahead of the 2012 elections.

This is not the time for conservatives to bail on the party because a Tea Party backed Chair was forced to resign. If anything this is a time to join it. There is plenty of room in local Republican organizations all around the country. I will say to anybody, join your local Republican Party. Familiarize yourself with the local bylaws and get to know those who are the most influential members. It is here where you learn the ins and outs of GOTV in your community. It is here where you can make the most difference in getting Conservatives elected.

To busy to be outraged.

Almost three years ago conservatives lost an election, actually the election was lost long before that. What some of us understood and others did not is what the consequences of those elections would be.

Here we are today years later after many people followed Ken Blackwell’s plan to rebuild the grassroots and Coldwarrior’s tireless attempts to get conservatives to govern their party, we still have plenty of people here at Redstate and elsewhere who are utterly shocked as to how far left this administration is, or the realization that Mitt Romney is a RINO. All the time there is no shortage of stories, posts, comments about some underhanded scheme Barack Obama is up to or how the RINOs in Congress are selling us down the river.

I must apologize I am just not outraged. I should be right? What could be more important than being engaged in the political process and fighting to save America from ruin. What could be more important than Barack Obama’s defeat next year. Well Nothing. Than why am I not outraged by the latest shocker by Glenn Beck or Michelle Malkin? I am just too busy to really care. You see I joined my local party over a year ago, got involved in a congressional campaign, became a County and State Committee member and now I am the Chair of my Town GOP Committee. Now that I am chair I will be real busy. There is a lot of work that has to get done like setting up fundraisers, running meetings, recruiting conservative candidates,  recruiting conservative members etc. In the six New England States there are no Precinct Committeemen, Precinct Chairs or Precinct Delegates. City, Town and Ward committees are the local party organizations that are responsible for getting out the vote on election day. I am thrilled and honored to be in this position in this biennial cycle.

There is so much to do between now and November of next year so I just won’t have a lot of time to be outraged.

Michael Merlina Mitt Romney’s Joe The Plumber

I was driving home from my job in MA stuck in traffic because of a car accident when I tuned in to the Howie Carr radio show. Howie had on a special guest, Michael Merlina a Massachusetts small business owner who’s wife had lost her job and their families’ health insurance over a year ago. Now uninsured Mr Merlina and his wife were forced by law in Massachusetts to buy their insurance through the MA Health Connector. The quote he got from them was $800.00 per month for a MA Health Connector approved health care plan. This was more than he could afford, so he opted to go with out insurance and last year was forced to pay a $400.00 fine. Now this year The People’s Commonwealth is hitting him with a $2000.00 fine for not having heath insurance. This is when Michael had had enough and in August filed a lawsuit against the Massachusetts Heath Connector Authority in State Court. Tomorrow is his day in court. Best of luck to him. Check out his website.

What I found more interesting here was many of Howie’s callers who were once Romney supporters and who once supported Romney for Governor are now souring on him big time. This story isn’t some debate over policy or some comparison between Romneycare and Obamacare. This is a story of personal suffering of a self employed businessman who is trying to make an honest living. Obamacare didn’t do this, Romneycare did. So when this case moves through the courts and gets picked up by various media outlets, Mitt Romney will find out that there is no where to run and no where to hide. For Mitt Romney’s opponents Romneycare will be the gift that keeps on giving.

It is time to boot Jerry Lewis from Appropriations

With all the hard work many people put into this election victory, it would be sad to see this poor excuse of a Republican,  Rep Jerry Lewis of CA be awarded the Chairmanship of the House Appropriations Committee. This guy loves earmarks as much as the late Jack Murtha.

John Stephen Rising

The NH Governor’s race has been getting a lot less ink than the hotly tested NH GOP Senate Primary. That is unfortunate because the Governor of a state has more of an impact on ones life than a US Senator.

This may be the end of the of the so called “unbeatable” Governor John Lynch. The Governor Lynch who ran in 2004 on the theme of caring about people. The Governor Lynch who ran as a fiscal conservative who opposed an income tax and a sales tax. The Governor Lynch who said that marriage should be between a man and a woman. The Governor Lynch who got 70% or more of the vote share in the last two elections. The Governor Lynch who got a large number of Registered Republicans to vote for him. Including a friend of mine who was a ward chair for the Manchester Republican City Committee.

Today a Rasmussen poll was released showing John Steven with in the margin of error of John Lynch.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/elections/election_2010/election_2010_governor_elections/new_hampshire/election_2010_new_hampshire_governor

It is encouraging to see many Republicans rallying around John Stephen. There is a long desire for change in the NH Governors office. The Democrats have controlled the Governors office for 12 out of the last fourteen years.

I talked to John Stephen last month after he got more votes than any other candidate at the Manchester Straw poll. We talked about him closing the gap with John Lynch. He told me after the primary he will close the gap with Lynch. Here we are today and he has done just that. Check out his website.

It has been six years since John Lynch has had a real race. In the last two races he went up against “cannon fodder” candidates and won easily. During his tenure Lynch has raised Highway tolls multiple times, doubled car registration fees, raised tobacco taxes multiple times, worked to implement an LLC tax, a camping tax and tried to raid a doctors medical malpractice fund. He signed a gay marriage law despite promises not to do so. He entered NH into the Northeast Regional Green House Gas Initiative (RGGI) a.k.a “Cap and Trade”. Oh did I mention the state was hundred of millions of dollars in debt. Now John Lynch wants an unprecedented fourth term as Governor. The Political experts and pundits think he will get it, but many voters don’t think he deserves it.

Thoughts on an Ovide Victory

My issue with Ovide Lamontagne has never been his conservative principals, but his electability. I am reading a lot of comments on the blogs from Ovide supporters who say that voting for kelly Ayotte would be worse than voting for Hodes. If you beleive that, look your self in the mirror on election day in November and say to yourself ” I am going to vote for Paul Hodes today so he can be my senator for the next 6 years.”

All that aside I have been thinking about what an Ovide victory would look like on September 15th. First of all this Senate seat goes from being a GOP hold to a toss up. Second Ovide is broke. I was told by a political guy in Manchester that Ovide can’t even buy any more signs. Third he has little name recognition . Despite being the GOP nominee for Governor in 1996, Ovide has done little to keep his name in the public eye for the last fourteen years. The latest polls show him to be largely unknown outside the GOP faithful.

So in Ovide we have a broke candidate, who is largely unknown and will be easily defined by the Democrats long before he can raise enough money to fight back. I just hope all you Ovide supporters can put your money where your mouth is and help Ovide raise the 10 to 15 million he needs to get over the finish line in November should he win on Tuesday.

As for me I am still undecided on this race. I want to support a conservative for Senate, I just wish it wasn’t Ovide.

Shea Porter ahead in NH-01

If anybody thought that this race was an easy pick up or in the “bag” well guess again. According to the July 28 WMUR UNH poll. Shea Porter leads Guinta 44 to 39 %, Mahoney 45 to 36% , Ashooh 43-35%, and Bestani 44 to 33%.

http://www.unh.edu/survey-center/news/pdf/gsp2010_spring_congapp42910.pdf

Based on the data from these polls in comparison to the spring poll, was that in the spring poll health-care was still dominant in the news. Second more women are starting to pay attention to this race at a time when the news is covering the Republican primary and the hit pieces on Guinta, Mahoney and Ashooh. The numbers on men have not changed since spring. Third voters who make more than 100K have left Shea Porter and are moving to the GOP. There is no doubt they have made the connection between the Democrat Congress, Shea Porter and our bad economy.

Right now this race is looking to be one of personalities and that’s not good for the GOP. In the last two races Carol Shea Porter has come from behind in the polls by appealing to “soft voters” with her personality based ads. In the last two races she has dragged out her elderly “Republican” mother and taken to the air waves. In other ads she has compared her opponents to Bush.

If you are reading this and live in NH-01 you need to get involved with a local party or a campaign. Give what ever you can in time or money or what ever to defeating Carol Shea Porter, John Lynch, Paul Hodes and the Democrats at the NH State House.

RINO Gregg will support Kagan

That’s right, the “lame” duck RINO Senator Judd Gregg of NH will support the anti gun “statist” Elaina Kagan’s nomination to the Supreme court. Here is the link.

Absolutely disgusting!!!

Sean Mahoney supports open borders

According to an article in the Manchester Union Leader Sean Mahoney is an open borders guy. That’s right illegals should stay here if they register and pay a tax. Forget about getting in the back of the line with everybody else coming to America. This is further to the left of Mitt Romney. Mahoney claims it would cost too much to ship all the illegal aliens back to where they came from. He says he would deny benefits to illegal aliens. That’s great Sean, so you would over rule all the Federal judges that gave them benefits in the first place. Now if you as a member of Congress want to vote for the impeachment of these judges that would be great. But I think that statement is playing on peoples wishful thinking. The only real solution here is to discourage illegals from coming here in the first place by forcing businesses to use the E verify system and to comply with our immigration laws.  Sean Mahoney why don’t you get with the program and support the hiring of Americans to work in America instead of leaving the door open for cheap illegal labor.

The last thing we need in NH-01 is a Republican congressman who throws Americans under the bus.

Carol Shea Porter voted for bonuses

On February 12 2009 congresswoman Carol Shea Porter admitted on WGIR AM that the stimulus bill known as The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will be paid with borrowed money and our kids will be paying the bill. She also admitted she did not know about everything in the bill.

Today we find out that executives at AIG Financial Products Division will be receiving a combined total of 160 million dollars in retention bonuses that were agreed to about a year ago. The US Government currently controls about 80 % of AIG and would be in the position to stop any payouts. As a matter of fact President Obama promised a $500,000 salary-and-bonus cap for top executives on February 4th. So what gives, this is what gives. There was some language inserted in the The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act by Senator Chris Dodd that granted an exception for exsisting bonus contracts. Here is the excerpt from the The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:

‘(IV) For any financial institution that received
financial assistance provided under the TARP equal
to $500,000,000 or more, the prohibition shall apply
to the senior executive officers and at least the 20
next most highly-compensated employees, or such
higher number as the Secretary may determine is in
the public interest with respect to any TARP recipient.

‘‘(iii) The prohibition required under clause (i) shall
not be construed to prohibit any bonus payment required
to be paid pursuant to a written employment contract
executed on or before February 11, 2009, as such valid
employment contracts are determined by the Secretary or
the designee of the Secretary.

What Carol Shea Porter voted for was millions of dollars in bonus money for executives for companies being bailed out by the TARP program. I don’t know about you but that is not standing up for the bottom 99% of us.

Here is a quote from Carol Shea Porters 2008 web site.

I will continue to fight fiscal irresponsibility and work towards a budget that is financially sound and morally fair to all.”
