RINO Republicans. A New Definition.

RINO = Republican In Name Only.

RINO used to be a term applied to a member of the “conservative” Republican Party who often sided with the big government loving Democrats. But the past several years the Republicans have demonstrated time after time that they are also loyal fans of ever bigger government.

The 12 Bush years saw unprecedented expansions in all areas of government. While Clinton was in office, the Republican controlled legislature passed bill after bill, law after law, regulation after regulation, tax after tax. Even under the halcyon Reagan administration, the government grew, regulations were written, spending went up, and laws were passed by the book-full. Little if anything was ever repealed.

I suggest the meaning of RINO should be changed. Since the Republican Party seems to generally favor ever larger and more intrusive government, the Republicans who vote against government expansion, intrusion, taxation, and growing statistism are the true RINOs.

Have you done anything...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:00AM EST (link)

to change the Republican party? You seem intent on bashing Republicans incessantly. Have you done anything to change the party? Are you a Precinct Committeeman? The only way to shape the party is from the inside. You are either a moby, or an incessant whiner… either way, become part of the solution, or continue to be the problem. If you want to be part of the solution, congrats… if not, we could do without you.

Yes.

charleskirtley (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:05AM EST (link)

I work hard by criticizing the party. If my efforts differ from yours, and you can not accept them, it shows how closed minded you are.

Do you realize how stupid you sound when you say the only “acceptable” way to change things is your way?

Well...

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:12AM EST (link)

If you think criticizing things is the best way of changing them…

When was the last time you voted at your county GOP meeting? I did last Tuesday. I have an official voice in what my local party does. I think that goes a lot further than whining about things on a blog. You might think that sounds stupid, but that says a lot more about you than it does me. If more conservatives joined the ranks in their local party, we could make more of a difference than your incessant idiotic belly-aching. If you can’t see that… well, I guess I wouldn’t want you to become a precinct committeeman. I would prefer to fill those vacant spots with persons of a higher mental capacity.

Your Way or No Way

charleskirtley (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:26AM EST (link)

Spoken from a true closed mind which is incapable of thinking out of the box.

I have lived in SE Asia and China the last 3 years. The economies are booming. Why? Not because people are doing precint level work. They are booming because there is almost no government interferrence in day to day life.

People don’t have to devote time and effort to politics. People devote their time to improving their lives.

Really???

discerningconservative (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:32AM EST (link)

There is almost no government interference(notice I spelled it right) in people of China’s lives? Really?

Really.

charleskirtley (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:37AM EST (link)

Really. I live in Shenzhen. I know what I speak of. Do you know better? How?

And trying to to make less of my argument by pointing out a typo shows how vapid your point is.

Come to think of it, you didn’t have a point.

No, there's no government influence, unless you want to have more than one child. None at all.

nessa (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:46AM EST (link)

Ok, now I see where you’re coming from. You have no problem with the chinese government dictating the number of children you or your neighbors have. Kind of cuts right to the amount of liberty available doesn’t it?

I See Things

charleskirtley (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:54AM EST (link)

Like most things, the government policies are completely ignored by most everyone.

I see things every day. I walk the streets. I talk to people. The government is almost a non-factor.

Another example. You may read that much of the internet is blocked, but everyone knows how to get around the blocks. It is a joke.

There is no way that a true conservative would argue that the Chinese government isn’t intrusive. They only allow one child. They already have internet restrictions that our current government is trying to implement. I had a point, and you proved it. You are a moby. I am done with you.

Again, my daughter and son-in-law lived in China for 3 years. We visited them over there. We met their friends. We dined with their friends. For not having an official policy, there sure were a lot of ‘only childs’ that we met. My daughter taught in a school over there.. Must be just a coincidence that *every* student in her classroom for 3 straight years was an only child.

And yes, we discussed this policy at length with them because my wife, being even more passionately pro-life than I (if that’s possible) is sickened by the abortions that are performed in order to keep the one-child policy in effect.

Yeah, that’s what I always tell my staff – please feel free to criticize without restraint. No need to come up with solutions; no need to work on solutions; no need to become part of the solution rather than part of the problem because bitching about something is *always* the way to move an organization forward.

I feel sorry for whoever employs you because no matter how much you think, in your deluded mind, that you are a ‘valuable’ cog in the process, I can assure you that *anyone* who thinks that criticizing is hard work and thus feels sanctimonious about engaging in it is a clueless, self-deluded buffoon who *always*, sooner or later, *becomes* the problem.

I Understand

charleskirtley (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:16AM EST (link)

I understand your point of view. You feel it is better to give the statists 50% of what they want in a given year is better than giving them 100% of what they want. This is a 100% valid point.

My point is if you give the statists 50% of what they want every year, eventually they will have everyting they want. So where does it end? Where do we put our foot down and say enough?

I say today.

Charles, you missed my point entirely, 110%...

nessa (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 3:38AM EST (link)

…we cannot afford one more loss to the progressives. Not Healthcare, not card check, not Crap and Tax. Nothing

What I am saying is that we cannot afford to split our votes with a third party, just as Perot did in 92, we will only ensure the progressive will win.

As liberty loving Americans all we can do is take our Party back from the establishment that has forgotten who put them in power to begin with. Conservatives have always been the force behind the Republican Party, now we need to take control of the Republican Party and bend it to our will. I am a Precinct Committeeman, with any luck I will soon be the Treasurer of our County GOP. That means I will be on the inside of each and every decision made there. I’m here talking to you at 3:30 in the morning, do you think they will be slipping things past me at the GOP meetings? I doubt that. I’ve been bringing in fellow conservatives since I got involved, and the conservatives have been bringing in more and we are a full year behind Cold Warrior in Arizona.

Stand with us, take back a name brand rather than make a totally new brand no one can trust, make the Republican Party be OUR Party and then we’ll finish our mission. Destroy the progressives, hunt them down and drive a stake through the chest of their perverted ideas. Carthago delenda est…

mikerazar (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 4:38AM EST (link)

Charles does have a point in his calling out of self-identified conservative Republicans being complicit in the undisciplined fiscal policies of the past two decades or more.

If the guy lives (temporarily) in China, he probably can’t be very involved in local GOP politics.

But the scariest thing is his claim that we underestimate the extent to which Chinese People are undermining the regime. I hope he is at least partly right. What if they are Poland of 1988, or even America circa 1775? Does anyone have any hard facts on the subject? I sure don’t.

All we can do is try to steer the GOP in the right direction from here on. Our commitment to fundamental principles should be unbending. But our tone can still be conciliatory and aimed at winning people over to our point of view. We’ll never elect anyone if only Republican committeemen are welcome to express their points of view in intra-party discussions.

We have a nation to save, people.

I wouldn't bite your head off Mike, but...

…look at chuckies posts from yesterday’s dust up… Such reasonable arguments as “Redstaters are Pitiful” or complaining about third party supporters getting flamed.

Now suddenly he lives in China, supports the government supplied liberty there and had go go to some chinese bowling league or some such crap just when he couldn’t argue his way out of his position.

He’s a moby.

Yes, many Republican congress critters have been complicit in expanding the reach and power of the federal gov’t. I have all the issues every conservative has with the Republican Party, and then some, I’m notoriously hard to please. Ask any of my ex-wives. But none of that withstanding, a third party is NOT the way to change the Republican Party.

Tonight chuckie shows up again with half a$$ed new arguments, then throw’s in China and their Liberties, which only he knows for certain, I guess Hillary and Obama were right to drop all pretext of pursuing human Rights for China, they already got’ em!

Hinz Rule means I believe he is posting here under false pretexts and is merely trying to make us look bad. Under Hinz Rule I refuse to engage him further and urge all other RSers to do the same. We’ll let the mods sort him out and deal with it from there.

This was the first Kirtley post I came across. I have read and agreed with many of your posts, as you know.

I guess one of the things I differ with most people on is that arguments, whether political, scientific, or otherwise, should be taken and responded to on their own merits. Maybe Charles ia a moby. But the arguments we have here over who is a true republican or conservative remind me all too much of the insufferable discussions I had to put up with in graduate school from my class mates arguing for one strain of Trotsykism versus another. Bizarrely, when I spoke out for liberty, they simply dismissed me as hopelessly naive. But there were times when small doctrinal disputes drove them close to violence.

Mr. Kirtly is not entitled to repeated debates on the same topic. My only point is that the message needs to be defeated on its merits.

aw man, and I took the "Over". I was thinking Neil

eburke (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 10:16AM EST (link)

was gonna let us play with him for a little while longer.

Like I said upthread, this guy is (was) a lying sack. As I’ve said, my daughter lived over there for 3 years and to say the government doesn’t wield power is ridiculous. We had to watch what we emailed them due to government censors; they had packages opened (noticed because some enterprising government employee thought our homemade cookies looked irresistable); when we were in Beijing around Olympic Part and Tianneman Square they warned us to be very careful about what we said from a political standpoint because there were plainclothes government ‘snitches’; etc., etc., etc.

And what *really* pi**ed me off was his claims about the one-child policy. That *is* enforced, especially in the cities. Our daughter even related how stunned she was that more people didn’t complain about it. They have become so used to the government controlling every aspect of their life, and knowing what’s best for them that when she would try to discuss with them how little freedom they have, they just shrugged their shoulders and said that the government knows best.

The government doesn’t have to be heavy-handed because the people have become like sheep. But try breaking out of that mold? My daughter *knows* people who were arrested by the government for preaching Christianity outside of the State ‘church’ and who’s internet transmissions were monitored and cracked down on by the government.

Sorry for the rant, but I couldn’t let this douchebag’s outright lies about what’s going on over there go unchallenged lest a lurker or newbie get the idea that all is hunky and dory in the paradise of China.

He had no desire to engage in a legitimate discussion that would help make change in a positive way for our party. If a Republican said the sun rose in the east, he would find a way to say that we don’t know east from west.

penguin- You called it correctly when you said

that he was not posting in good faith. It amazed me that so many thought they could “change his mind” about his anti-Republicanism. When the idiot started saying that the chinese justiognore the Communist Chinese Government, and, then went on to bash the Republicans in the US, you had to know he was just playing games on here. It usually doesn’t take more than 60 comments for most to know it’s either time to call Hintz rule, or to email the moderators to stop the propaganda. I’m thankful that eburke posted as he did above so that, as he said, lurkers don’t think this is an uninformed or kooky site.

ps- To think that this guy's mind could be changed

Scope (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 10:53AM EST (link)

would be like believing that you could talk Jeffrey Dahmer (sp) into stopping his killing spree. Many times things are best left to psychiatrists or ignored completely. To do otherwise is to give his one handed typing legitimacy no matter how much entertainment he provides.

Sometimes, we engage, not to change minds, but to not have stupidity left standing unchallenged.

Plus, if you get them going enough, the invariably do something to reveal who / what they are and get themselves blammed. It’s a neat trick, if you can do it.

I'm glad eburke said what he did.

If some of the remarks by these kind of posters go unchallenged (in a polite sort of way), it can leave false impressions of RS and in the internet searches. Mr. Skirtley, thought he was clever, but everything in this diary alone, is a slam against Republicans, even to throwing in Reagan.
His post was a distortion of any power the Republican legislature had in most of the years, either we had a Rep. president, with a Dem Congress, or a Dem president and a GOP Congress. And when Pres. Bush had the majority in 2002, in order for him to get what he needed for the WOT, he had to deal with the Dems who were doing everything to undermine him. Notice how Mr. Skirtley did not note the Dem majorities and how they wielded power…..

Mr. Skirtley has had the same type of diary before, same discussions waged. It was closed. He had a bash Pres. Bush diary just last week. IMO, he recruited Mr. Mosley to go at us again….and then still not satisfied, returned today.

penguin- He ripped the Republicans a new one

and almost immediately started saying that living in Communist China is a piece of cake. That doesn’t even deserve civility. I’m waiting for his buddy Edward Mosby to put up another diary, as he was not banned, as far as I know.

Are you getting snow today? We are getting another 3-6 inches tonight, and another snow storm Fri. night into Sat. morning. It must be Gorebal Warming!

Oh, yes I knew he was up to no good, it is not hard...

penguin2 (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 12:50PM EST (link)

to pick up on the tone…..When he brought up Communist China, I thought he ought to just stay there since he thinks the people are so free. Those people live in fear of the knock on the door; just look at how China controls the internet in their country. That Mr. Skirtley would give China as an example of a people being “free” from the government, it is an insult to the suffering they have. They must hide the human rights abuses from him. There are other countries, present day and past, that also touted how wonderful their peoples’ lives were…..

No we are done for snow, I think we are to get rain, while you get snow. But I have to tell you I was one happy penguin for awhile. :)

randy- I understand

Scope (Diary) Tuesday, February 2nd at 12:02PM EST (link)

This guy had a diary closed down, and, that’s pretty rare here unless it’s really bad. Yesterday, he beeitched about it when commenting on another idiots diary. He still didn’t change his tune, he just said “I believe I was still right.” He dang well knew that this diary was inciteful, as well as his previous comments, and probably posted it for that reason.

My point is that when anyone engages these people, despite their history here, it doesn’t gain anything, and yes it makes the site look bad. If no one carried on any discussion with him, he would not have gone on with stupid comment after stupid comment. I don’t know if Neil banned him for using a bad word, or if it was because of his obvious hatred of Republicans. Wouldn’t it be better to send an email to the moderators, and warn that an anti-Republican is at it again?

Ruins the fun. Plus, Gamecock has had some great insights on this subject:

basically, that some of these idiots really can be saved, and we owe it both to them and to our country to try.

LOL, Nessa. Of course I was wondering the same about you. When I wake I like to check and see if there was any excitement on RS that I missed out on. Lo and behold here is Mr. Skirtley visiting us…..

Anyway, I took note yesterday when he said RedStaters were “pitiful” I get feisty when people insult RS. Now, I can go back to sleep and come back coherently later. :)

I was about to go a few hours ago till I noticed discerningconservative holding Mr. Skirtley off all by himself. I couldn’t allow that to continue so, here I am. I haven’t had this much fun since the last time I was in a bar fight, the hours were similar, although the outcome was a little more settled. LOL..

And in light of the guiding prupose that this is a site for promoting conservative and Republican interests, I’d ask you why your are writing here and what contribution to furthering this purpose you would intend with continued presence as a poster, were I to allow it.

But to put my hat back on a a long-time RS community member, I’d advise you to reboot and figure out what your intentions are here at RedState before you start replying.

And how you plan to organize and rebuild a Republican Party that can win elections and put conservatives in power, since I don’t exactly want continued Democratic Party hegemony over our political system that will continued us on the road to a totalitarian state.

Or you could take a look at coldwarrior’s site and see a workable plan in action.

BTW, don’t forget you need more votes than your opponent to take office (and in ACORN areas and Democratic controlled urban areas and states with a Democratic Secretay of State, make that at least 5% more than your opponent).

Productive contribution will do much to enable your continued presence at RedState and overcome this ill-fated start of yours (speaking as one who’s watched what provokes banning from the moderators).

That assumes you are here in good faith, which remains undetermined at this point, but which your future actions will make clear very soon.

But escalating a flame war (as you’ve threatened) will lead to your rapid crashing in flames. And yes, it doesn’t matter who started it; life isn’t fair (Principles of Conservatism #1).

Especially as this is a privately-owned site, which means the rest of us are all their guests – which in turn means that we need to follow their rules if we wish to remain in their house and not be tossed out on our butts.

Your choice from here…and choices have consequences (PoC #2).
