In light of the recent presidential election and our current economic crisis now is the perfect time to eliminate the minimum wage.

Electing an African-American in Barack Obama has shown that the United States has made great strides in overcoming our racist past.  The minimum wage laws were instituted by early Progressives to keep Blacks from finding work.  The very notion that minimum wage was originally a weapon of hatred should be enough to have it axed from the law of the country.

We also know that minimum wage creates a “wage floor” as they say in economics.  Floors of any kind create excess supply, in this case excess labor.  In a time when unemployment is climbing, what better thing to do than eliminate a law and increase the number of jobs available.

Lastly, who are the companies doing well in this economic downturn?  Walmart and McDonalds… both well known for their large work forces of low-wage teen-age workers.  What could be a better stimulus to these successful companies than to make them able to hire even more workers?

Minimum wage is a joke.  It was founded on hatred.  It’s not a living wage – no one could live on it.  It’s only a political ploy that hurts teenagers and helps politicians get re-elected.  Minimum wage needs to go.

If you go out and do a Google search on “true story of thanksgiving” you will be inundated with articles of how the pilgrims made war and spread disease to the Indians. Well, that is true to history, but it has nothing to do with Thanksgiving. It occured in the years following the great gathering and we shouldn’t let it tarnish the glory of God’s bountiful blessing and peace among two different peoples that was celebrated that day (or three days as it were).

In my opinion the best True Story of Thanksgiving is the one Rush Limbaugh wrote in “See, I Told You So!” and reads annually on the day before the holiday (that’s today for those of you in Rio Linda). And this year I think the lessons learned need to be stressed, as in some ways we are repeating the errors.

A couple weeks ago we elected a president who graduated the top of his law class at Harvard, Barack Obama. When President Clinton was running he was cheered as a brilliant Rhodes Scholar and Ivy League graduate. But what of those more dim-witted politicians that have made the national scene? Buffet has had a liberal streak to him, backing Obama and speaking out against inherited wealth, etc. Just as in the Great Depression when rich men were tapped to help out in ailing businesses, and in almost fond memory of such, Buffet has helped prop up Goldman Sachs and General Electric.

Berkshire Hathaway also owns a good portion of American Express stock… and we have all heard how AmEx has just asked for bailout money to stay afloat.

Thank the Lord Mr. Buffet is there to voluntarily share his wealth. Now if the Treasury would just leave me and my relative pittance alone.
