He just slipped off to the roof (or basement, or quiet area) for a couple of cigarettes and a little alone time; or he and his wife slipped off for an unscheduled nooner; or, maybe he just said, “F it! I’m not in the mood to deal with those media hyenas!” and all those bright lights in his “spokespersons” stable didn’t know what to say or how to say it, so someone tried to ‘wing it’ with a cover story and then they were just stuck with a stupid lie. Or, maybe it was a clever plot to send the press on a wild goose chase so a Chicago Boss could slip into the WH without having his photo snapped. Anyone know where Kipout Louie was that night? Or Swivel-nose Tony?

What Obama was doing at that facility, we can only speculate. I’m guessing that the facility is not so ‘former’ as previously reported.

I’ve compiled some background information what I’ve been able to find online about Fort Reno, which is where Obama claims he went to see his daughter play soccer yesterday. Mixed in with it is some interesting conspiracy theory and other info which one could use to create their own conspiracy theories.

Officials Play Down Threat From Arsenic at Park in D.C.

Fenty (D) and a number of environmental and health officials said that the contamination might be confined to a few hot spots at Fort Reno and that arsenic in the soil might be at safe levels elsewhere in the park.”

The US Park Service fenced off the 33 acre park after completion of a “street sweep”, clearing all pedestrians from the area. On that same day a caravan of black limos were seen entering the park. The Fort Reno area has had been under construction for quite some time. Whats really going on? “

Note regarding the limos he later clarifies:

“This information came to me from an eyewitness account of a large number of vehicles, not military, but several non-descript black limos. This person was not caught up in the street sweep and stayed out of sight and witnessed these vehicles enter the park. I live in DC and this is a person that lives in a neighborhood near Fort Reno.”

Fort Reno Update: Arsenic Levels May Be Safe

WTOP has the scoop on the latest from the Fort Reno Park arsenic saga. Officials have said that early testing from 13 soil samples at Fort Reno Park, Wilson High School and Alice Deal Middle School show a reading of 10 parts per million — far below the up to 1,100 parts per million a U.S. Geological Survey finding that closed the park last week. Safe levels of arsenic are listed as 43 parts per million by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The USGS findings were based on satellite aerial imaging reports that indicate arsenic levels based on stress the poison places on grass. More results on soil testing are expected on Wednesday, and Mayor Adrian Fenty is waiting to comment on whether or when the park might reopen until then.
Organizers of the Fort Reno Summer Concert Series have put up an announcement on their web site saying that they are waiting to hear from officials before they determine what might happen to the concerts — and that they still need your help fundraising:
The news hits just as we were beginning to ask for your help in raising the funds we need for this year’s sound system and stage maintenance. We may be looking for a new home or maybe we won’t need to – either way we still need your help.

MPD reports / Falcon’s “Virgo” exercise is scheduled for late tonight 5/21/08 beginning at 2345 hours into tomorrow morning 5/22/08 ending at 0600 hours. This exercise comprises a series of training flights held in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Capital Region Command Center, the Joint Air Defense Operations Center, Civil Air Patrol, and NORAD. Residents in the area can expect flights to occur throughout the night

If you fly and are looking for an adrenaline rush, I am guessing you might not come closer than this: being a target practice aircraft for the military.
A recent Washington Post article detailed how a group of Civil Air Patrol pilots do just exactly that: offer up their Cessna’s as targets attacking sensitive sites up and down the east coast. CAP is a non-profit group that functions as an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force. It as over 56,000 members and owns the World’s largest fleet (535) of single-engine, piston aircraft According to the article, the CAO flies exercises known as Falcon Virgo, which take place over cities such as New York and Washington. They are directed by officials from the 1st Air Force at Tyndall Air Force Base in Florida, who coordinate air defense for the continental United States.
Exact details of the Falcon Virgo exercises are often secret. But this much is known: The exercises test Washington’s air-defense radar system and the aircraft that might have to confront an intruder. Those include the Air Force jets that fly continuously over the capital, planes that scramble from Andrews Air Force base and Coast Guard helicopters. Participants include officials up the chain of command who must decide whether to intercept or shoot down an aircraft. Many involved in the exercises are not told that the Cessnas are “friendlies” until after they have been picked up by radar – but well before any decision would be made to shoot them down. During some exercises, the military also tracks the Cessnas with ground-to-air missiles. “Which can be kind of disconcerting if you’re flying them,” observed one pilot. Pretty sure that I would need to have plastic seat covers if I knew I was being tracked by a missile, maybe that’s just me.
