You simply would not believe the excuses and rationalizations that come from these totally preventable tragedies. I was distracted..., the phone rang..., my other kids were watching..., I left them safe with my alcoholic father..., and my all time favorite: I only fell asleep for a second. I have yet to read or hear an interview with the responsible party where that person says, "It was all MY fault." If we won't take total responsibility for the safety and well being of a helpless child, what will we take responsibility for?
